He pitched at Auburn (with Tim Hudson), so this is big news down here. It was a large flatbed tow truck, and it appears he ran up under it. Sad.

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Josh Hancock was drunk and talking on his cell phone at the time of his fatal accident, and marijuana was found in the sport utility vehicle he was driving.
Medical examiner Michael Graham said at a news conference Friday that the 29-year-old reliever was dead "within seconds" from head injuries in the crash early Sunday on Interstate 64 in St. Louis. His vehicle hit the back of a tow truck parked on the highway to assist a driver from a previous accident.
"There is nothing at all that could have been done for him," Graham said.
Hancock's blood-alcohol level was 0.157, nearly twice Missouri's legal limit of 0.08, Graham said.
Police Chief Joe Mokwa said 8.55 grams of marijuana and a glass pipe used to smoke marijuana were found in the rented Ford Explorer. Toxicology tests to determine if drugs were in his system had not been completed.

Drunk, possibly high, and on a cell phone? Very lucky an innocent person wasn't killed.

Josh was driving a rented SUV because his own vehicle had its bumper removed by an 18-wheeler three nights before in a seedy section of East St. Louis. The cops who responded to that wreck said he was fine.
Let me expand a little on the tow truck that Josh smashed into. The tow truck driver had just seen an accident in the left lane, so he pulled in behind the disabled vehicle, turned on his flashing yellow roof lights, and stopped. Then Josh smashed into the tow truck. This sequence of events may have occured within seconds, so I imagine that Josh, in his drunken state, was doomed. It is also feasible that if the tow truck hadn't stopped, the driver of the disabled vehicle would've been killed by Josh's rented SUV.

First LaRussa was arrested for DUI,and now this?
This just goes to show that you can be on top of the world, have everything, and then life can change in an instant. This was a waste of a brilliant and promising career, but proved to be an even more valuable lesson to be learned here.Rest In Peace.
