check out this:

remember when there was a rumor about a heated exchange between Spurrier and an assistant coach of the Jets...

[ The newly hatched rivalry almost turned ugly in March, when Jets special teams coach Mike Westhoff and Redskins coach Steve Spurrier bumped into each other at a Miami restaurant. According to sources, Spurrier boasted how the Redskins were on the verge of signing Morton and Coles to offer sheets. A heated exchange ensued.

"I'm going to take one tomorrow," Spurrier told Westhoff. "After that, I'm going to take another one."

[:D]

"It was frustrating to me because of the way he said it," Westhoff said yesterday. "It was said to me very matter-of-factly: 'We're going to do this.' I reacted and I didn't like it. I mean, come on, this is our football team. I don't need someone telling me I'm going to take this guy and that guy. ]

And I love Westhoff, if they had come to blows I would definitely favor the fesity Westhff- he might even have hit SS w/ his cane:D

Luckily this game is on Thursday as I get the feeling the Jets won't be able to hold it in any longer(an example would be Mawae's comment). I wish they'd just shut up and play but Mawae's quote was funny. I love the attitude though, it seems as if the Jets are angry and want to take it out on the 'Skins, hopefully they can.

Center Kevin Mawae, alluding to the Redskins' affinity for Jets players, cracked: "If you can't win with the guys you have, you go find guys from a winning team."

This is what we will hear from everywhere when we win Thursday night... it is a no win situation for us.:(

Skinzaholic: You guys played by the rules so who cares what people would say if you win on Thursday. I hate seeing bulletin board quotes coming from the Jets but it does give this game even more hype, only 3 days to go.

In the end what people think wont matter as far as wins/losses... but it does sting to have your team discredited no matter what they do. I find it so ironic that teams take players away from each other every year... yet we use business prowess to take players from the same team... and no one reports about the lack of business sense ont he Jets part... simply that WE raided THEM.

What you guys did was unprecedented, most of the times teams take players from different teams but to get 4 players from 1 team is pretty strange so alot of hype comes w/ that. Like I said, you guys signed them fairly(except Morton, that whole arbitrator ruling was a joke) and if you win it won't matter. I do want this game very badly b/c of what happened and hopefully we come out w/ the W.

Ahhh....lets not get started on the arbitrator ruling!.

The Jets knew damn well that the arbitrator was a Redskins season ticket holder. That information was volunteered to him prior to the arbitration.

You can't cry over spilled milk if you agreed that the milk would be spilled in the first place! :D

So...if the Jets win on Thursday, but I find out that the Refs are all old Jets fans, can I complain?

So basically all Mawae said was when a team is not successful during the season they go through FA and try to sign better players. Did I get that right???
How is that insulting to us???
Yea we improved our team through free agency. THATS THE POINT OF FREE AGENCY!!!!!!!!

They're pissed off because we not only took the cookies from the cookie jar but we drank their milk too. Boo hoo we signed your players, FA is a great thing :p

It just sounds like the Jets are scared to me.

We've had some success with Jets players in the past though. Maybe time doesn't heal all wounds.

Who didn't think these stories would come out. The media is looking hard for quotes like this so they can stir the pot.

As brash as Spurrier is, I highly doubt that he walked up to Westhoff and just started talking shit. It's very odd to me that Westhoff is known to be "fiesty" within NFL circles but this article paints him as one that was prodded into a confrontation. I'm willing to bet that he may have started this alleged confrontation.

I think you're right. I remember reading the full "account" of the story, and it seemed as if Spurrier was the one approached while eating. I could be wrong, though...

Ahhh....lets not get started on the arbitrator ruling!.

I'm not complaining about the arbitor having 'Skins season tix(the Jets were dumb enough to not object) but the NFL management council told the Jets what to do and everyone knew what should have happened but the opposite happened. NOBODY expected that arbitor to rule in favor of the 'Skins.

It just sounds like the Jets are scared to me.

Yes the Jets are contemplating not even showing up.

I wouldn't be surprised if Westhoff started the confrontation but by all accounts it was Steve. I like Spurrier and I don't have a problem w/ what he did, I think it's funny but I'm also glad Westhoff went back at him.
