The man who may have the biggest name in Green Bay sports history has asked to be traded.

BlogJam ...
Several Packers and league sources have told FOXSports.com that Brett Favre has requested a trade. Is Favre right to make such a request? Weigh in with your thoughts.

Several Packers and league sources have told FOXSports.com that Brett Favre's agent Bus Cook phoned Green Bay's general manager Ted Thompson within two to three days of the draft and asked for a trade. The sources said that Cook railed off how his client was fed up with the organization and wanted out.

The shocking request appeared directly related to the team's inability to trade for WR Randy Moss.

That'll teach those politicians to open their mouths about who's the best QB ever. :D

they should accomodate him and ship his butt to oakland....

He probably will not be traded but this is still interesting news nonetheless.

Finally, in the middle of this past week the two finally connected. Sources close to the situation said Favre asked McCarthy if he was aware that Cook asked for a trade but McCarthy immediately insisted that would not happen. McCarthy told others inside the organization it appeared the team's head coach had cooled Favre's anger and by the end of the conversation admitted he didn't want to go elsewhere. However, at the same time he has told friends on other teams as well how frustrated he is with the organization's inability to land the former Pro Bowl wideout and that he, in fact, wanted out.

Thats what you'd call ironic. Favre gets upset due to the Packers not landing Randy Moss. Then trade him to the team that traded Moss to the Pats.

Justice.

Favre seems too old to pitch such a hissy fit. That said, he's never struck me as a very bright guy.

Watching Favre (at this point in his career) play with Moss would be hilarious.
Brett could just throw up Hail Marys every play. He could obliterate the INT record in a season by game 5 or 6.

So Favre made an statement, and then backed off? Weird...

I didn't want to say he was from "pond scum," but what the heck! ;)

What a great career he has had, but at this stage does he really have the leverage to request or demand anything. I have respect for Favre, but he needs to just call it a career. I felt that way about him last year, but again out of respect watched him a few Sundays last year.

Who cares about Favre? He's well beyond his prime and little more than a pick machine anymore. He should just retire and let Rodgers take the reigns before he screws that situation up for the Packers too.

Even with all his greatness, at this point he is hindering the maturation and progress of Rogers.

Exactly. He needs to step aside for the betterment of the franchise. If that's why he's asking for a trade, then I'm cool with that. If he's asking for a trade because he's just being a prick, well, that's something else entirely.

I kinda of feel sorry for Favre, they've been stripping that team bare for a few years, and not bothering to get him quality offensive players to play with(and constantly retooling the defense). He's not the same guy from 6-7 years ago, but he's still a quality QB. Their whole offense runs through the TE, but Bubba Franks has sucked for basically the Bush administration, yet Ted Thompson refused to get anyone for Favre, despite having consistently high cap space available.

Thats true, but he has nothing else to prove. Its been a good run, but now maybe its time to call it quits. There are maybe a couple of teams out there that he could start for. Is it really worth it though? Just go out with some pride and wait for your name to be called for the hall of fame.

He still better than half the starters in the NFL though. And the Pack went out and got him...nothing. They let Ahman Green and Henderson walk, and drafted Brandon Jackson, Clowney and Clark Harris to "contribute". I would be pissed also. Moss would have been a great fit for what they want to do, but he's going to have to make do with Driver/Jennings/Martin. They'd better hope Jackson or Wynn can carry the load, or Aaron Rodgers will have a chance at having McFadden as his RB next year.

i see where favre is coming from i mean they had a ton of cap room and all they did on offense was let ahman green go and replaced him with brandon jackson(potential bust/workout warrior)

Man it'd be weird if he went back to Atlanta... its been like 16 years right? something like that? Well... it'd only happen if Vick went to jail/got suspended but thats always a possibility for him.

Great post. I agree 100%.

What the HECK?!?!?!?

From a salary-cap standpoint, they'd be able to wipe Favre's $11 million base salary off the books while absorbing only a small hit from the prorated portion of his original contract. They might be able to find a team that thinks it's on the brink of a championship and needs only a veteran quarterback (Washington, Denver and Jacksonville come to mind) and squeeze out a high pick.

I guess it didn't take too long before they associated our name to a big name free agent.... but DENVER AND US when BOTH teams have a "QB of the Future" already in at the position!?!?!?!

I wouldn't put it past Dan Snyder but I doubt Gibbs would agree to such a move.

Even if they wanted to, the skins can't take on his contract. This is just crap speculation. Favre won't be compete with someone like Campbell or Cutler, he'll go somewhere with nothing at Qb currently. KC, Miami, Atlanta are obvious candidates.

And when are we going to stop shaking at every crap rumor about "the skins are interested in _______" according to that team's beat reporter despite the move making absolutely zero sense and isn't backed up by anything here?

Exactly... however, I can see Favre to Jacksonville. Del Rio needs some help badly. Meathead knows all about Favre. Brett would be close to home. They could trade Fat Albert and draft a young guy next year or resign Garrard.

I don't think there is much, if any, of a chance of it happening but if Gibbs wasn't here and the Danny was running the show entirely, I would bet on it.

Even if Danny was the head coach, GM, and owner: you can't fit his contract into the skins' roster. And Ted Thompson has shown that reality and his trade demands are two mutually exclusive concepts lol

I can't blame Favre, the team has done nothing to improve the offense over the last couple of years. I agree that he is better than half of the starters in the NFL right now. Yes, he has thrown a ton picks but mainly from forcing things when he had nothing to work with.

Favre can still get it done, but better than half the starters right now is a complete overstatement. I mean he still has some left in the tank, but not much. I can see his argument , but I really dont see GB contending anytime soon, no matter what they did this offseason.
