real quick, how can we sign TAylor, Landry and Cooley to long term deals worth alot of money this year???? how do we have the cap????

well, if anyone can work it out, it would be our front office. But at least taylor and cooley will command big big contracts, so asking for all three to be signed this year, is asking for a miracle.

Dear skins FO: can i have one miracle, with a side of do you believe:rolleyes:

Even if the skins gave them rich contracts, none of the first years of the contracts would cost much. Taylor isn't a priority, he's locked up for awhile. Cooley isn't going anywhere: the skins will probably tag him(which is why they didn't tag Dock).

In order to tag cooley he would cost about 4.5-5million(the tag this year is 4.3mil, so i assume it will go up again next year). i do think Cooley will be given a long term deal this year. So we shouldnt have to tag him.

Dockery wasnt tagged because it would have cost 9.5 million this year. Sorry that wasnt going to happen.

Taylor will hopefully be given a new contract either after this season or next.

Good stuff about Taylor, and I ain't worried about Springs needing to be there anytime soon. He is clearly our best CB when healthy and it seems he's got a really intense workout regimen in Arizona going on, so his shape will not be an issue, plus he knows GW's system inside and out by now. With his contract issues still not clear until June 1, I can't blame him for staying put until then. Hope he's a Skin in '07, we are far better when he's on the field than not.
Springs, Taylor, Landry, and either Smoot/Rogers starting...add PP and Macklin to the mix, along w/the veteran Stoutmire and young Doughty and this looks like the deepest secondary we've had in years. (BTW...to me, Fox and Jimoh are strictly special teamers...the guys I mentioned can actually compete for playing time on downs IMO)
Same goes for the LB corps - LFB, and a healthy Rocky and MW starting, w/a healthy LeMar plus two promising young prospects in Blades and Sartz equals a LB corps as deep as I can remember.
This is truly the most frustrating time of the offseason IMO...May/June/plus the first two weeks of July - 10 weeks of excruciating waiting (for the speculation to become visible)....GRRRRRR!:banghead:

But if you use the tag one year, you can't the next. In theory they could have tagged Dock to keep him(or deal him), but that would mean they couldn't tag Cooley. I think he'll get a long term deal, but I do think that if they don't, he'll be tagged.

What media hype? You don't think Taylor was making some sort of statement by showing up a week late? Did he just forget?

And most of us that you are accusing of "buying into media hype" were speculating this back on draft day, before there was any "media hype."

What's sad is that you want to throw a blanket statement over anybody who doesn't agree with you that all things are just fine and dandy.

There was a call to Rosenhaus and was asked why he wasnt here and there was no mention of contract problems whatsoever.

And there was small talk about the taylors contract. And it simply blew up after he didnt show and media started spinning the contract issue.

I know you can use the tag one year and also the next(Pace,Jones got tagged multiple years in a row). Tho im not sure if you can use it one year on one player and the next year on a different player.

Edit: I looked this up. Here is something from askthecommish (http://www.askthecommish.com/freeagency/)

Under the old CBA, a team had until March 17 to work out a long term deal with its Franchise Player. If the team signed the Franchise Player between March 18 and July 14, the tag would have stayed with that player for the length of his contract, which meant that the team could not name another Franchise Payer until that player's contract was terminated. The updated CBA pushed that date back until July 22, the same as the free agency deadline. However, there remains a caveat: The club may NOT sign the tagged player to a long-term contract after July 14. That is, the team has until July 14 to sign the tagged player to a long-term contract; afterwards the player may sign only a one-year contract with his prior team, and the contract may not be extended until after the last regular season game.

So if we would have tagged Dock and signed him to a long term deal before March 18th or traded him then we could use the tag the next season. But if we signed him to a long term deal from March 18th-Jul 22 then the tag stays on Dock and we could not use it again.

real quick, how can we sign TAylor, Landry and Cooley to long term deals worth alot of money this year???? how do we have the cap????

If the following happened, we should be able to sign all three after June 1st without cutting anyone:

Landry took a 5 yr, $25M deal, $15M TIERED SB -- $10M now, $5M in roster bonus next year, min salary first year (cap number would be $2.5M this year)

Taylor and Cooley sign 6 yr, $40M deals, $18M TIERED SB -- $12M now, $6M in roster bonus next year, min salary first year (cap number would be $2.5M this year)

Taylor's salary counts $1.125 towards the cap now and Cooley's counts $0.85M (both numbers would be a savings to the cap with the new deals)

The present cap number is $4.39M according to Warpath. With the Hilton cut and the savings from Patten's release, we got close to $2M back -- making the cap number close to $6.25M.

With the increase in savings from Taylor and Cooley's present salary numbers, the cap number would be close to 8.25M.

The new deals for Landry, Cooley and Taylor would put us at a cap figure of $0.75M in the black with several cuts to come from now til opening day.

It's unclear what Springs is up to. Gibbs is already on record saying that the Skins have decided against asking Shawn to take a 2 million dollar paycut this season, and that he will be paid "normally under his existing contract".

Unless Springs thinks Joe is lying to him, SS shouldn't do anything to antagonze the FO, which is apparently willing to have him count over 7 million in cap room this year. At his age and with his health history, Springs should count his blessings that he is still in the League.

If it were up to me, with the current Skins roster not shaping up to be a serious contender at least in 2007, I would look to dump Springs for whatever he would bring. If he can fetch a 2008 4th or 5th rounder, that would be fine. A 2008 3rd rounder would be even better.

I think we might also see some extra room when it comes time to cut one of our 2 veteran backup QBs. There's no reason to keep Brunell AND Collins.

great news i knew he would show up sooner then later. now onto the taylor and cooley situations, taylors contract may be about 40 million but i would think cooleys would be 6 yr 30 million at most. cooley will resign because he is loved by these fans and the coaches. def in the discussion of most popular skin of the last 10 yrs, i mean girls who dont even watch football hardly love him. my predicition is cooley is signed in training camp to about a 6 yr/29 million dollar deal,or if theres no deal by march he will be tagged. taylor i think they will start talking a new deal but i think it all hinders on cooley . like if they sign cooley by july taylor could get a serious offer by november. but the FO knows they cant let these two go

I agree, we need to start the trend of resigning or rather trying to resign our guys before they hit the FA market. We need Cooley, but not at the price of breaking the bank. He seems like a reasonable and fair guy so I dont see him asking for a ridiculous number.

Xactly. I felt he needed to get back to that bonding thing, even though he brings an edge to the D. I would never "favor" a move of ST to somewhere else or even begin to suggest he's on the downside, but when a coach has you by the cahunna's moreso than you think, it can make a difference in what you "thought" you could keep doing and what you should do. Just because you can do something, doesnt' mean its the right thing to do for yourself or the team overall. too many weeks away only means catchup over and over again.

Face it, in the offseason, being seen at McDonald's is front page news in the NFL.

I think it's funny that your first post on this board is a feeble attempt at mocking the membership here. That pretty much narrows you down to one of three things:
1. A Cowgirls or Eagles fan that is such a coward, it has to wear a veil.
2. A useless troll that is seeking attention.
3. Both 1 and 2.

I hope I'm wrong and it's now your time to prove so.

I am glad to see that he has some sense of responsibility to his employer. Maybe he heard what Bram said on the show one day about the best way to discuss his future with the team or any unhappiness with his contract is to be at the park to discuss it. But, actually I don't think he would discuss anything, he would leave that up to Drew Rousenhaus.

He probably just wanted to be fashionably late.

There was a time he wouldn't even talk to the media and now he has a great interview even after not being at OTA's for the first week. No negative talk about Landry or the team as a whole.
