from Redskins.com...article on Lavar
"In assessing the present, as well as what might be on the horizon, Arrington said he is a Redskin inside-out, which is very strong symbolism of his loyalty. He also indicated that, just like Darrell Green, that he would like to remain a life-long Redskin.
"I'm part of the beginning," he said. "I have a history here with the Redskins. I have time invested. I love this team. When things start to turn around and we start to bring it back to the tradition of winning, when the guys were bring home Super Bowls, I think it'll mean a whole lot. As they say, `He who invests a lot, they value it more.' I'm waiting for that time."
Lavar sounds like he wants to be a lifelong Redskisn and part of me believes he loves this team and the other part is because he has a great relationship with Daniels Snyder and knows he has it made here.

Does he love this team enough to take a pay cut?

That's not going to happen. I'm not sure if it's a shot a Champ but it'll have him thinking and I'm sure the media will ask Champ about Lavar's comment and what it meant to him.

got this from USA today:
"Any player that's had that done to them, I didn't think it was a great thing for the team," Bailey said. "They'll do anything to keep you around and not pay you what you're worth."
Asked if he had undergone a self-examination as to whether he wants to stay in Washington, Bailey said: "I really won't say much about that ... No comment on that."
Bailey's agent, Jack Reale, did not immediately return calls for comment.
Wow, when asked if he WANTS to stay he really said a lot......

I too am not certain as to whether it was a shot at Champ, but it was refreshing to hear is comments, especially after all the "from left field comments" coming from Bailey lately. #56 being my favorite Skin makes those words sound that much better to me.

I for one applaud what LaVar had to say and if Bailey does'nt want to be here(which is becoming more and more apparent IMO)then see ya.We made a fair offer, this guy is no Darrell Green. He does'nt appear to have the teams best interest or the fan's (that he keeps saying are so important to him).I don't blame Snyder at all for not selling the farm to get this contract done.He cant even be bothered to sit down face to face with the owner.I guess his agent can handle it in is his opinion but i think it's a cop out because he does'nt want to be here.Trade his ass to the Bengals and let Marvin have his way with him.Just make sure we get two first's and i'll be happy.

THIS IS NOT A DEFENCE FOR CHAMP
I do remember D Green "holding out" when he didn't have contract. A lot of people were on him for not reporting to camp. He was a true pro and tried to inform people that he wanted to be in camp, but w/o a contract, it was to risky. This was at a time before FA and if a team and player couldn't agree the only recourse a player had was to hope (lobby) a trade. Teams had your rights forever (or at least until the next CBA).
Of coarse we were not talkjng about 14-15 mil bonus money to sign you name.
I hate to say this cause I've always liked him, but Champ's a JackAss with a capital "A"

Could be a shot at Champ. I beleive Lavar, he tells it like it is. That is one of the reasons why he is my favorite Redskin!

I'm sure Lavar isn't taking a shot at Champ. Whether the team is trying to make a point is something else.

No one knows how it'll play out. I love Champ and I hope that he does want to stay. Maybe if we win we can entice him to stay.
Either way, it's frustrating to think that he doesn't want to be here. I'm glad we have a leader like Lavar and that is at least some sunshine from all this.
Only a couple days to game 1... why all this drama now?

I still hold to the belief that the main reason Champ wants out isbecause we don't win like we should. That can frustrate anyone. Why did Barry Sanders retire after only 10 years? Nobody thinks he's an ass. He wanted to win and Detroit couldn't make good and so he did the only thing he could do to stop losing. A player of Champ's caliber doesn't handle losing well. I think we should make a very solid offer to him midseason after we have logged a couple wins and see what that does for his desire to stay.
Think about it. He knows the fans love him. He knows he will always contribute to this team. You can't really expect such an intense competitor like Champ to stay in a losing situation if he can get out and go somewhere and win. I love LaVar's love for this team, but as long as we lose, I couldn't blame him and wouldn't think less of him if he wanted out too.

Barry was with the Lions TEN years and retired because of a disbute between his father and the owners of the Lions. He took well less than current market value to stay with the Lions when he signed his last contract. Barry wouldn't even come out of retirement when the Lions decided that they would trade him to whoever he wanted play for.
The Skins FO is trying to keep Bailey here. Every chance he gets (Bailey) he just keeps saying things like " "You would think they would be disappointed," Bailey said. "You always ask about me being disappointed. You would figure they would want to keep the guys that they want here. It's all in their hands. They run the show. I'm a player. I'm just going to go out here and play games. That's all I can do, and let the rest take care of itself." "
Seems to me he just doesn't want to be here . . . he can say what he wants, the Skins FO want him here and offered an pretty descent starting contract that he didn't even bother to start negotiating from.
I don't know what the future holds and whether Champs just miffed because a contract isn't done, but IF Champ wants out, then PLEASE GO . . . I don't want you here if you don't want to be here!

CB you make some good points, thats probably the approach Champ's agent is taking with Dan.I just say that in today's market it's hard for any team to sustain excellence on a long term basis. This is why with the proper offer and length of contract( if Champ had any desire to be here)Bailey should be willing to negotiate and get his $.

Man, this pains me to read. Champ should be a Redskin forever, it just doesn't look like that's going to happen. He'll get tagged and be here for a year but that's it. You gotta love LaVar for being loyal.
