I was reading Jason La Canfora's blog and he made some pretty remarkable comments about Rocky. Apart from the Dline he was the one person i was really concerned about on the defensive side, but this article has put my mind at some ease.
I guess comments like
" I hear that Rocky is being looked at as a real weapon, someone who can be deployed in multiple ways, and is thriving under the tutelage of new LB Coach Kirk Olivadotti And has been a stud this off season. He has essentially lived at the facility, getting up to speed on the defense and all of his responsibilities after struggling to get a grasps of it last year after being picked in the second round. Also, Olivadotti is a more of a "luv 'em up," kind of guy and more touchy-feely than Dale Lindsey was, and the new approach is working well from what the players and others can tell out there". Makes me really confident on our defensive approach this year. The article also said that we are using a lot of Lovie Smiths' system this year???

I know he has a plaque in the ground outside of the facility that says he was the Special Teams player of the week last season. If he performs as well on the defense as he did on special teams, he'll be well special.

Yeah, I've heard alot of good things about him. Hopefully, he truly is stout at the point of attack and get's off blocks well.

Rocky has all the physical tools to be a great LB at any of the 3 Lbs spots in the 4-3. He reminds me a lot of a guy like a Nick Barnett/Angelo Crowell type. The question for him will be how much time does he spend in the film room and working on his over pursuit weaknesses.

i dont think studying film and learning the defense will be a question for him, as the blog entry states he virtually lived at redskins park this offseason studying the defense and such, unless you mean studying opposing offenses from week to week which remains to be seen.

We'll see when he plays on the field how much he's improved on that.

Unfortunately, we'll never really know what he can do until we see him on the field full-time. :swars: (this is a cool smile)

for a second it doesnt sound right, he is only getting up to speed onthe defense and all his responsibilites even after being on the team for a 1 year??????

How lost would he have been if he was forced to play alot of last year.

A rookie struggling to absorb an extremely complicated defense in his first year doesn't sound right? The same thing happened on your team with Bobby Carpenter.

Only difference is I haven't read anything about Carpenter this offseason except that he's still a backup.

yes i agree about Carp he needs to step up or shut up this year.

Both sould be mastering the defense not coming up to speed. maybe it is just a play of words but Yes Carp does need to get with the program.

Great news.. Rocky seems to be a guy that can contribute, and bring some meanness back to our LB core. However that degenerate knee condition would be a major concern if I was coach. We could have permanently damaged goods in 2 seasons if that condition advances...which we all know will.. just a matter of when.

Could be an indictment of the LB coach as much as the player. Seems like we took care of that problem.

Well he didnt take his honeymoon so he can be at Redskins park. I think that says how committed he is to the Skins.

Maybe Wade will have Carp loose the weight Bill had him put on. Some where it was listed that he was drafted around 250 or so and bill had him up to 260-270 and now Wade has him back down to 250. so we will see the future.

he didnt appear too lost last season when he drew a couple starts. while he may not be a proven product yet, i think hes coming along real good from the reports ive read and what i seen. when he did appear lost last season, the play where he was late on the field because he didnt know he was in the package they were using, he still ran on the field quickly and ended up making a huge stop on the play

Its hard to judge in two games, in those to games he did display why we wanted him so bad though. A pretty explosive player who can really run. Even if he did appear lost, how many rookies dont?

Yeah its hard to judge, but he did perform well. It may have been best for him to sit and learn last year tho many of us wanted to see him on the field over holdman. Also, many people billed him as 'LaVars replacement'. perhaps the coaches just didnt want rocky to play with that pressure, since now he can be viewed as holdmans replacement.

not related, but did anyone hear lavars commercial on the radio for a sports bar he's opening somewhere in the area?

Don't players usually do these ventures after they retire? Could there be an announcement coming? Me thinks it's very possible.
Anyhow, what station did you here the commercial on? Do you know the location of the sports bar, DC,MD or VA?

Yeah seems like the only linebacker smart enough to learn this system is Warrick Holdman. To bad he can't play linebacker though. I am tired of this no guy is ever smart enough for this system. If it is that **** complicated maybe we should change it up some. How are Shawn Merriman, Ray Lewis, Joey Porter, Jason Taylor and Adalius Thomas so much smarter than our guys. Why is not being able to learn the system and being not bright only a problem on our team.

Upscale sports bar, lol. I see an Out Of Business/Under New Management sign for that within a year. I don't know about Thrash owning any restaurants but I think he runs some football youth camps.

He could do a Native American tie-in to his playing career and call it "The Wounded Knee."

Lavar was such a fan fav up in the Big Apple, I'm surprised he didn't open it up there.

What's the name of the establishment? I want to know so that I can be sure to stay away.

Does Lavar really think he has any good will left in Washington?

Yeah, I heard the interview on the John Thompson show and he did say that there are so many people down here who love him....it almost brings tears to his eyes.

Similarly, I was curious about his statement; does he really have that many fans in the metro area?

Possibly a small select clientele.

Let's see...Antonio Pierce, ...Carl Poston, ...The other Poston, ...

Dale Lindsey will send a bouquet and his regrets.

Eric Schaffer will send $6.5M worth of champaign.

Gee ya think? LOL.

I am a little hesitant since we heard the same exact things last year and then McIntosh got hurt and Holdman became the starter where he immediately excelled at chasing down RBs after they were ten yards pasthim and they tripped.

Lavar's adoring fans must be in the same place as the second 6.5 million bonus of his contract--fantasy land.

I wonder if Lavar still stands by his parting shots at the Redskins, or he is ready to do a 180 degree flip-flop like Romney.

From what I remember:

He said that his problem is w/ people in the org.....I'm assuming he means the FO/coaches.

But he loves "his fans, " the people who supported "him." It seemed like he was drawing a distinction between Redskins fans and Lavar fans.

Whatever.

He may be trying to draw that distinction. But, I don't buy it. His shots at the organization and his behavior shortly before he left is an affront not only to the team, but to the fans and the entire city as well.

I wouldn't patronize his sports bar if the drinks were free.
