i have a bad feeling that if we lose Champ he might end up in Philly.
I am sure that Vincent and Taylor both are in the last year of their contracts and I doubt the Eagles would re sign both due to their age.
The Eagles have been happy with former 1st rd pick Lito Sheppard. and adding Bailey who is only 25 would be a big addition. losing Taylor and Vincent would clear enough cap room to cover Champ as well.
I think the Eagles would part with 2 1st rd. picks for Champ because they don't have any glaring holes they have depth in most areas so 2 1st rd. picks for Champ wouldn't be to steep.
I also think Champ would love to play for a perennial contender such as Philly. who also have stability.
just a scenario I have been thinking about for awhile. and seeing how much Philly loves our EX- players I really think this could happen.

I thought about it the other day then I thought we'd be really stupid to allow that to happen.

IMO, the Eagles will never pay that kind of money to a player. I'm not sure who will be willing to give him that kind of signing bonus. But I can bet you that it wont be the Eagles.

Yeah, the Iggles stick to a budget. Mortensen mentioned that fact when someone asked him about the Eagles picking up somebody else that would cost alot.

The Eagles annually manage to frustrate Donovan McNabb by having about $10 million in cap space and not using it to make the final steps towards an unbeatable powerhouse team. I doubt they'd change that policy for a signing bonus near $20 million.

I doubt there are many teams in the NFL with owners willing to give out a 20 million dollar bonus. Lets hope that a team like Houston or Arizona surprises us and gets us a few awesome first round choices.

That says it all. I don't want to see tensions between Bailey and the skins, but I think the skins made a very nice offer to keep him. Besides, as stated before, I don't see many NFL paying that kind of a bonus to a cb. I know, I know, he shuts down half the field but he is only ONE player.

Does Champ play his a$$ off this season to validate his worth? Does he cruise and do enough to get by and see what Danny Boy comes up with? OR............. barring injury, does he sit out when he is tagged a "franchise player"?
It is a roll of the dice!:(

If he wants the money, then he better play his a$$ off. If he wants to impress a team, he shouldn't be a slacker.

I think Champ will play and play well like normal. He wants money and he won't get as much if he twiddles his thumbs even Randy Moss knows you don't start sucking until AFTER you get the big contract.

IMO Champ would lower his demands for a team like Philly I am not saying he will play for free but I think a team like Philly is exactly what he is looking for.
a Coach that has been in place a def. coordinator who has been there no major change every year. he also would have an instant chance at reaching the Super Bowl. the Eagles are in much better shape than the Skins are at this point.
it may be a long shot but it's a scary one.

Yeah, but Monk, you have to realize that if we tag Champ, which we will, and he lowers his demands for Philly, he simultaneously lowers his demands for us. If he signs an offer sheet with Philly, all we have to do is match it and he's ours. So he can't really lower his numbers for any team he thinks he'd like playing on more.

The more quotes I read from Champ the more he seems like he doesn't want to be here. IF thats so, then get out . . . we need players who want to be here . . . to be a REDSKIN!

true Champ really wants stability and out of DC probably as much, if not more than, being the highest paid player on D in the NFL.
I bet we have to slap the tag on him and hope someone will cough up the two#1's for him.Now i really want a GM!

Players always say they want stability and a winner and to play close to home and all that crap. Almost all the time what they want is money. Champ has been underpaid since he came into the league. Now he's looking to change that. It's okay by me. He's the best cornerback in football and he's worth whatever he gets. It's early yet, people. This is just standard negotiating stuff. Don't take it personally.

Can you say Detroit?
The Bailey Brothers brought together again??
Champ has always seemed like a quiet guy, but he is very close to his brother. Maybe he's just looking for a reason to play with his bro?

I don't see the iggles giving Bailey the money he wants when the wouldn't give Trotter the money he wanted, which was far less.

If we can outbid our comptetitors, he'll stay. If we can't he'll leave. Bottom line. He's no Darrell Green in terms of commitment and loyalty and there probably will be nobody who matches Green, Slaighter and Favre in that aspect so don't be mad at him. He's doing what most athletes would do. I also think this is exactly what he meant by what he said in the post except he said it nicer. Pay me more and I'll stay, pay me less and I'm out. The only thing I can say in contrast to that is although Stevie Wonder could have seen the talent in this guy, he wouldn't be this good with Cardinals or Bengals. We have surounded him with everything he needs to be great so maybe that's not the issue.

He shuts down 1 player, not one side of the field. Teams still run routes under him or over the top of him when he is locked up on one player. Champ looked even better last year as Marvin kept him to one side of the field and OC's put the better receiver on Smoot. We will see just how good Champ is this year, and see if he is worth $20 million. I am afraid that the truly great receivers will burn him like Ismail or Galloway did for Dallas 2 years ago.

Antwoin Winfield, Shawn Springs, Chris McCalister (my personal favorite) and Charles Woodson, plus 2 first rounders which would allow us to pick up Sean Taylor with our own pick which should range somewhere from 10-21, and a DT. Additiona by subtraction? no because there's not gonna be another Champ Bailey but if we loose Champ and Smoot returns to rookie form and better, plus one of the players above are signed, we should be ok. Add Sean Taylor to that and we might be just as strong.

San Diego - Houton - Detroit, or Baltimore.

out of those Corners I prefer McCalister as well. Springs and Woodson have to many injury problems.

I agree, McCallister would be the best of that bunch, mainly due to injuries

Champ has a been a good corner for a long time. If he wants to play for someone else its ok, just make sure we get compensated for our loss! take a 1st and 3rd + a player, or 2 #1's.

I think Champ wants to see what this team can do this year. If they look playoff bound, he will probably sign back up towards the end of the season. I just think he wants to know if the Front Office is serious about a Super Bowl.

I agree. If we kick some but this year & go to the post season, that will do more to keep Bailey than any amount of money. Bailey is beyond money now, he can get his money from almost any team in the league. And edorsements for a star playing in the playoffs will off set any contract offer. It's about working in a place that will allow his career to blosom to the next level - superstardom.
If we don't make the play-offs & break down again - Bailey is gone. If we do make the play-offs & impress - we've got a good shot.
QUESTION: if you think he would accept lower to go to Philly, how about Pittsburgh? Good Lord, he'd be the final piece to that puzzle. And why replace pro-bowling, fan favorites of a team with very volitile fans, when you can waltz in as "the final piece".

Bailey will go to the highest bidder. It has nothing to do w/ turnover, loyalty, siblings, or playoff contention it's the m-o-n-e-y. He's not that much better than other 1st tier CB's as was Deion Sanders in his prime.
The guy is worth $10 million w/ $3-4 million a year at the most. Let him go otherwise he has to be on crack if he thinks he's going to make Michael Jordan money. Quite frankly after what I read in the post I realize the guy is a complete idiot and I don't want him.

Kelly: Yeah I doubt Philly would also, especially since they got probowling CBs for less money. Pitt though, could use it.
Emman & Camanch: a little too sour grapes for me. I think Bailey wants post-season play and we, for the most part have failed to give it. It's on us, we blew it.
It's why despite all the mechanism set up by the NFL good teams stay on top & bad teams stay on bottom. And now, the Redskins have been in both camps.
