Duckins Yahoo FF League 2007-08

This will be a thread for the return of my FF league this year. As always Im the Commish and will send PM's and Monitor the league to the best of my abilities. Same rules as last year and here is a list of the players that get first crack at returning this year(i forget who is friends with the guy who called himself Tarheels last year so let me know if he wants in again. although id prefer if he is only iffy about it if he let an HR member have his slot.) Please let me know if you are interested in this thread and I ask that if you can please make the live draft (date unknown at this time,usually 2nd or 3rd week of preseason on the weekend). It makes it way more fun when you select your team and have some personal interest in it and the draft process im sure people can vouch for it being a blast.

I'd say the 2nd round because I don't think the Redskins defense will last past the first round since they are a power house. Better grab them first if you're putting together an all-Redskins team.

That was a tough draft, talent gets pretty watered down in a 14 team league. I'm very happy with the starting line-up I was able to put together and with my running back depth. I've got 4 guys (Westbrook, T. Jones, Ahman Green, and K. Jones) who all could all be featured backs with 20-30 touches a game. After that though my team gets really thin on the bench but I'm sure everyone's team is the same way.

I can't complain though because in week 6 I face 'Nation of Domination' without SIX of his starters! Jay Cutler, Marvin Harrison, Darrel Jackson, Willie Parker, Marshawn Lynch, and Adam Vinatieri are all going to be out. It's so bad that he's going to have to pick up a receiver on the waiver wire just to field a complete roster...

Yeah, that would be pretty impossible in a 14 team league. Maybe a 10 team league where you could reasonably start 20 QB's and have a back-up for each team.

1. 16-0 2 go - solid pretty much all over with good upside if Foster keeps the job

13. Richskins-Dont like Farve and Driver as a pair but that could work in your benifit with double points. However with that and your core of young RBs your team may be too streaky for my taste.

14. Tarheels- Dont like your WRs and your RBs are in a time share. I think that QB thing hurt your squad so i ranked you last. However I honestly could see any of these teams winning this league. For example your team if Peterson is effective by the mid season he will probably see more touches then C. Taylor and MBIII i think is the best back in Dallas and is a great goalline threat. Peyton is always a stud and if your WRs can hold up their end or you pull off a trade for Carson or one of the 2 Jets WRs you own then you got a really good team and I have you ranked last.

Here is everyones starting lineups. lot of tough teams in there. How do you guys rank them in a power poll?

The only one I am slightly concerned about is the W/R position. I have been watching the situation in Tennessee and I think Chris Brown is going to pick up plenty of points. I also think chicago's Adrian Peterson may well depose Cedric Benson this season.

I had a choice of Matt Hasselback and Vince Young as the best available at the time and I was let down by Hasselback last year so I went with Young. Those yards on the ground will supplement what i think will be an OK passing record.

Overall I am generally happy with my squad and I like the potential of Maroney/Lewis/Owens/Boldin/Cooley/Gould/Baltimore for a mass of points.

Wow, I just saw the pending trade info between Tarheels and 1602go. Carson Palmer for Phillip Rivers and Michael Jenkins? Tarheels, I know you have to get rid of a QB but that seems really lopsided to me. I would have thought you could do a lot better for the best QB not named Manning then a borderline #1 QB and Jenkins who is #70 among receivers on Sportsline's rankings.

Another way of looking at it is that you are trading your 2nd round pick for his 5th and 13th!

I agree. Even with the changed terms it is still very lopsided. Although Ward is a little better then Cotchery, they are both #2 receivers in the world of fantasy football and would essentially cancel each other out. That leaves Palmer for Jenkins and Olsen which is the original trade with a #2 TE tossed in.

Once again, look at it in terms of where these guys were drafted. 1602go would be getting a high 2nd rounder (#19 overall!) and a 6th rounder for a 4th, 13th, and 14th. That's not even close.

Here's the basis of my initial (and subsequent) trade offer:

I don't look at which round the player was drafted in, because that assumes the pick was made in the correct round. Palmer has an Average Draft Round usually in the third round. And Rivers was selected in the fifth.

I use the "fan points" column because in H2H, points matter. Comparing Palmer to Rivers in fan points for the season reveals a difference of 318-243 (a total of 75 points), or roughly 5 points a game. Having lost a few times by mere points (twice to RPS last year by 1 point), every point adds up. How do I make up the difference?

My initial offer of Michael Jenkins would offer him a receiver with projected fan points of 121. Some may not like the receiver, but I am willing to make up the difference in the form of an upgrade of WR through a swap of WRs.

The modified offer that Duckin is proposing meets the "fan point" test. The round that a player is drafted in should be "irrelevant", its the production(measured by fan points) the player gives that should matter....getting Michael Jenkins that late I consider it to be a steal. On a team that is going to be playing from behind all year, he will be one of 3 targets for Atlanta QB.

I will consider any trade (both the one I am making and when evaluating others) that meet the "fan point" test to be fair.

As you can tell, I'm for it, it's the most accurate assesment that can be made. The round in which a player is drafted should not matter. For instance, Kevin Jones in Round 10 if he is not PUPped could net better value than the rest of the 10th rounders. Should he be considered a Round 10 player? Perhaps yes, perhaps no. If he was healthy, he might have gone several rounds before, but the health risk is what notched him down the 10th round. It should be the player and his expected production (measured by Projected Stats, Fan Points column) that should be used, it is after all what makes a player a "bust" or a "steal".

I'm all ears to listerning to opinions.

I like it for a quideline but not the rule. I usually will start off taking RBs first then move to WRs. Regardless of Fantasy Points due to the lack of good depth. I first go for Studs then I want touches or opportunities to score points. Fan points can be very subjective when you take into account situations like for example Take CP who was injured last year but in his active games scored 7 TDs in limited duties. Or Hines Ward who IMO will lose touches to S. Holmes and H. Miller because of their development. Ward is also aging and you may find he wont be as valuable this year. So should I rely on his Fan. Points. Thats where it gets fuzzy. All in all I start with players who got solid points last year and are in a favorable situation to make points this year then I take gambles late on guys like B. Leonard. Or S. Holmes. Or K. Curtis who I think could make a real jump and provide me with a surprise scorer or great depth. Projections are great but thats what they are projections ask the guys who had Edge last year and they will tell you there are many Projections that just dont work out.

Skinfanjon summed up my feelings exactly. I think the draft round only plays a factor now because the season has yet to start and each player has no real stats. Once the season gets underway, the production of a player takes precedence.

FFA, your example of Kevin Jones is a great one. Right now, he has little value because he is hurt and may or may not play. He'd be a back-up on most rosters and any fair trades should net a player in a similar situation. I would not consider trading him for a #1 or a #2 Receiver to be a fair trade. Once the season gets underway, if he returns and takes back the starting job in Detroit his value will increase and at that point I would consider the above trade perfectly acceptable.

This year has been marked by tragedy for me. First there was the implosion of Drew Brees, then Joey freaking Harrington went off on me, now kenny **cbs*** watson.

I have more points then 4 or 5 teams ahead of me tooo.

if its any consolation I'm 1-6 in my other league.....with the likes of Torry Holt, Reggie Wayne,Patrick Crayton, S Alexander, Kevin Jones, and Vernon Davis.

Well it looks like my winning streak has come to an end against a very good (and dangerous) team. If not for (3 fumbles for me and a return defensive TD for his defense) it would have been close. I also had to play some scrubs (no D Foster or GreenBay defense), maybe I'll face you again in the playoffs.

Its amazing how many first (and second rounders) that were originally drafted are underperforming this year(mine included). It's like half of them : SJax, Shaun Alexander, Rudi Johnson,Frank Gore, Laurence Maroney, Marvin Harrison, Torry Holt, Clinton Portis, Cedric Benson......and quite a few others doing an average job. The injury bug in one form or another is certainly to blame, either directly or indirectly.

Playoffs...Im just trying to win a game. No seriously my team never put up a big point week but my team consistenly produced above average points with a few real bad weeks in there. Im still surprised considering all the drama with my team this year. all the same im 2 for 2 when it comes to making the playoffs. so yippe me.

okay guys here is the deal. I am knee deep in studying for my MRI boards and still learning the ropes on a new job. Not to mention the toughest job which is chasing my little monster of a daughter around the house. There is no way I can give this league the attention it needs as commish. However this league has been to competative and fun to just let die so I was hoping someone would step in for me this year. I can definetly help out during the season but these next 2 months are gonna be tough. So Is there Someone out there that wants to send the PM's and Set up the league and make a draft date so this league wont have to miss a year?
