just a tidbit on our running backs. Health is an issue, as betts gets injured alot (see previous seasons), and portis coming of his injury. But if they stay healthy i like our rush offense, and that should help campbell make the big play, and we should be better on 3rd down because of the down and distance is shorter, and we can run or throw or scramble:sun:

If Portis was healthy, he could have had a monster season last year. 7 TD's and 4.1 avg. in the few games he played (remember he may have missed 8, but he was limited in many other games).

The one thing about those stats that sticks out like a sore thumb is the paltry number of rushing TDs generated by those 2 last year. I didn't realize Betts only had 4 rushing TDs. (Actually, I probably did realize but, had erased it from my memory banks.)
If we're gonna have any sort of success next year we'll need to look at doubling our rushing TD production.

Exactly. Red Zone performance on the ground is key to a good offense!

Absolutely agree. Which is why I'm still shocked we never used Duckett by the goal line. Need The Dirtbags to start moving people around and open up some holes. When Saunders came here that's what I imagined would happen. All I remember is Preist Holmes and Larry Johnson scoring TD's everytime they were in the red zone. I'd like to see Portis and Betts do the same thing this year.

If Portis and Betts can be like Holmes and Johnson, just having them as a serious threat will open everything else up...playaction to Cooley or Sellers, bootlegs by Campbell etc. This offense can be really good this year and maybe even great if no health concerns and an improved Lloyd. Go Skins !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly my thoughts..........Would luv to see Cooley/Portis/Sellars play-action or used as goal-line threats..........Sellers did a great a job in the Red Zone the seaon before last..........

It has been my impression that the Skins are one of the worst short yardage/goal line teams in the League. It is unclear if the RBs or the Oline is more at fault. My guess is the Oline--it is a good line, but not for short yardage purposes for some reason. Hopefully, that changes this season.

While betts showed he could put up yardage he's never been a huge td threat. if portis were fully healthy last year i think he would have atleast doubled the 7 he finished with

Hey we have a great tandum in the backfield 2 studs and if one gets hurt for a game or two we have RC or Blaylock filling in to rest our stud. mind you our uninjured stud would have 70 to 80% of the touches instead of 40 or 60%.
for the odd game it shouldn't hurt us to much.

Two quality RBs are a plus for any team. Both of these guys could be considered #1 backs. They compliment each very well. Eventhough, Betts had a career year, CP is still the homerun threat that makes the offense that much dangerous.

Health is a concern for both of these guys, but with them sharing the load, it should make them that much more effective. The only thing that worries me is if there are enough balls to go around for both of these guys.

I think this tandem-if kept healthy-could be a serious threat to defenses across the league. I dont think there will be any problems about ball time..........The way I view it Betts will primarily be a recieving back (essentially another WR) and Portis will be hammer on the ground and occassionally the staff will switch it up to keep the opposing D..........

I hope it does work out that way because both guys bring allot to the table in terms of making this running game efficient.

I'm really excited about what CP and Betts can do this year (the whole offence really) I just hope thers no lingering effects to any of CP's injuries when the season starts.

I really like our RBs. We have a lot of talent and we have guys who have done it before (although they now can be considered injury prone). At least we have 2 capable backs in case one of them goes down. The key will be our offensive line. If Wade can fill in for Dockery and commit less penalties than him we'll be fine.

On a different note, its good to be back. I havent posted in 2 months or so.

I don't really think Portis should be labeled injury prone right now. Prior to last year he was as durable as they come. A few things here and there, but generally speaking he laced them up for every game. Last year was bad for him, but that doesn't mean he will have injury issues this year.

I still see CP getting the lions share of the carries, but now he and the coaching staff have more faith in Betts to keep the chains moving. CP may be more inclined to come out more to get a breather. I still think CP will be getting 20+ carries a game, and that is a good thing.
