Meet Barrington Irving, who is about to complete his around the world solo flight in his tiny airplane. He's in Houston right now. Final stop is Miami.

I'm surprised I didn't hear about this sooner. He built his airplane with donations. You can track his progress on the available flight tracker. Cool.

This is a stupid story. Why does it matter that he's the first black person to do this? Congrats to the guy for doing it. Period. At some point, I think, pointing such things out serves to focus on our differences more than our similarities. And I don't see how that can be very good for anyone.

Actually I came close to this distinction, but I was on a passenger flight and my stop landed in Korea. It seems I couldn't quite make it into China, Russia, during the Cold War, in 1980. Nevertheless, I felt proud that there I stood, in the Land of the Morning Calm, a year away from a real tidy bowl and not those forsaken honey wagons going down the street with feces.

Anyway, hats off to the chap, but this day and age, its true, it doesn't seem to matter who was first at anything anymore, unless it can be for iPods and Madden games. :)

That's exactly how I feel about these kind of things. Another guy just flew around the world, congratulations, period. He is exactly like the first guy who did it. We are all guys... well, and some gals :)
