Its sad to think that many that pioneered this multi-billion dollar industry are being treated this way. Take care of the people that made you who you are.

both the NFL and NFLPA should be shamed by this. Too bad they just rather use the old players as sppedbumps.

One of the ways in which the NFL can start is, having each player insured, AFTER leaving the NFL, for more than 2 million dollars. The insurance would cover motor skills, neurological, surgical, psychiatric, broken bone related (marrow) and organ related conditions that are directly related to their years in the NFL. In addition, a pool of funds could be donated to a two times a year visit with relevant medical staff to ALL former NFL players, that wish to have it. In some cases where the patient's mental state is clearly not allowing sound decision making, a family member or rep should be there to make sure they get these "interval" check ups.

The insurance is paid by ALL players with funds already available. The funds
aren't likely to be tapped into nearly as much at first glance and will be of tremendous help if the numbers DO increase for need.

Assistance should also be given to Donors like what Everson Walls did for Ron Springs.

same as in baseball. guys like curt flood ended up bitter and broke..

but given the abuse that football players subject their bodies to, it is particularly serious in football-- even without the looming concussion issue.

the NFLPA should hang their collective heads in shame over the way they treat the pioneers

I think retired members of your local Teamsters get much better treatment than this. The NFLPA is an ineffective joke.

The NFLPA is an embarrasment. And I find it incredible that the current players (who themselves are soon to be former players) would allow the PA to ignore this situation.
