It died again today. It will be mourned by precisely no one outside the west wing of the White House. Hopefully, they'll stop trying to reanimate it. Hopefully, Fent can come in here and provide some context for us, but if I was a Hill Republican, I'd be livid with the White House for forcing the bill on the Congress and dividing the GOP at this time.

on the other hand it does provide a platform for everyone to run on in 2008
besides iraq, i cannot think of a more important issue for an election to focus on

[Giuliani actually sued the federal government for the right not to obey federal immigration laws. When he lost the case, he still ordered NYC employees not to obey federal anti-illegal immigrant laws.]
Frankly, I'm happy to have the issue on the table because it divides the GOP, doesn't divide the Dems, and the Dem position is the more popular position according to every poll I've seen. But looking at the issue from the point of view of a Republican who has to run for office next year, I'd be very annoyed with the White House for dividing the party like this. Seems to me that at every chance the White House has promoted its own interests over the interests of the party. And this after the GOP Congress marched off a cliff behind Bush in 2006. So much for loyalty.

we will see how this plays out.. i think that overall, the nation is likely to be uneasy with the dems more open immigration policy..although it is likely to get ugly, i think it is an important debate for this country to have

Is he even aware that the amnesty bill was hated by most people? He's so tone deaf. Remember when he fired Rumsfeld the day after the midterms elections? Duh!

I like the amnesty idea. I just think that it has to come AFTER you build the ENTIRE wall. Otherwise, it's worthless.

I gotta tall ya......watching that youtube yesterday really pissed me off.....on a number of levels. I cannot believe he had the audacity to say that Congress needs to balance the budget.

The man really doesn't know what he's saying. I'm pretty sure that he doesn't have any long term memory cells left.

It's almost like there's a competition in the WH to see who can toss something out to make themselves look like the bigger idiot.
Oh yeah, you're not part of the executive branch? Ha, I got an immigration bill that kills that one!!

Well, hopefully in the near future we will be able to start about eight years of blaming Bush for whatever goes wrong in the US after 2008.
