Wondering if anyone got one of these yet, and how they like it, or if they know of anyone yet. It looks really cool but it is real expensive going at what 5 or 6 hundred?

$500 and only on AT&T. It looks hot, though. I'm interested to see a) how everything works, and b) how everything holds up after a year or two of abuse.

Not interested. I can get the same exact phone for 300 dollars less. Without being a nerd.

Bunch of people in my office waited in line, and said the thing is better than advertised. They've only spent a few hours with it, but they said its BY FAR the coolest thing they've ever encountered - and they're tech junkies, so they should know.
I'll probably wait until a 40GB or the like comes along - you just can't store much on 8GB, and I think Apple can make it happen in the next year or so.

One of the Fox news morning anchors tested the new iPhone. He said the LED keyboard drove him nuts. He was never sure that he successfully struck a letter. He preferred the sure feel of a Blackberry fixed keyboard that offers more intuitive tactile sensation.
I've never operated either infernal contraption, so I hope that makes sense to you.

Probably less than that. Honestly, I hope the device falls flat on it's face at the current price point so that in 6 months I can get one for $300. :)

I have an ipod. I have a cell phone. I have a camera. I have a computer.
Now why do I need to spend $500 more for all of those combined with less memory? I bet the battery life on the thing is horrendous, especially after a year.

making calls is done with less key strokes these days, so i can see the touchscreen working on that front, but text messaging still requires alot of strokes. that and the beating it'll take in a pocket or purse with keys make me curious about it's durability.

I have a mp3 player. I have a camera. I have a computer. I have potentially infinite memory. I have a browser. I have a radio.
They are all already inside my cell phone.
Which cost me 200 dollars.

the biggest drawback I heard is that it does not have a detachable battery which means when it powers down you need to recharge and can't switch to a backup. That could be a real inconvenience when you have a heavy cell day, espescially if you are playing tunes in between.

So, if I were to go camping in the woods for like a week, it would be pretty much useless right?
And what am I supposed to do when, after some use, the battery tends to run out faster? Shell out another 500 bucks for a new iPhone?
You can't put in another memory card to expand memory space at will, you can't change batteries in case one runs out...no thanks.

I don't think the people that shelled out 500 bones for the iphone are very interested in camping :)

Ok, let me put it this way..if I buy an iPhone, and I crash while flying over the woods on my private helicopter, either I am rescued in a few hours or I will inevitably die.
Sounds great!

There's no way I'd buy this thing, atleast not until it's price goes down dramatically, cause I'm perfectly happy with my phone and almost perfectly happy with my iPod, but it's interesting to hear how people have felt who have experienced it so far.

I actually have friend that bought one. He let me fool around on it and its amazing, kinda feels like I'm in Minority Report. It's a pretty cool gadget but I'm not gonna get one... probably ever :)

The worst part of the phone is having to pay for Cingluar (the new AT&T) service. I have AT&T and even if i had the means to purchase the iPhone, i wouldn't do it because that would require me to extend my contract, and with the shotty service I get with Cingular (the new AT&T)... no thank you!

I went into the Apple store in Bethesda and checked it out. [Pity all the other fine Apple products, which were being completely ignored by everyone in the store.] The iPhone is very cool and intuitive in the way that Apple products usually are. I played with it for about 10 minutes, with no "assistance" from any clerks, and it doesn't take long to figure it all out. It looks like a fine product to me.
That said, I have no need for it. It's expensive and it does things that I can already do with my Blackberry and my iPod. Besides, I don't really like having everything in one device. I just prefer a bit of separation. Maybe that's unusual, but that's how I am. I would have much preferred it if Apple would simply have put out a touchscreen video iPod. That's what I've been waiting for. I'd buy that in a second. Maybe less than a second.

I still don't get the convenience of the iPod as opposed to the loads of other mp3 players out there, the majority of which are alot cheaper, and some of which look almost exactly the same.
Same thing, only more, applies to the iPhone.

To name a few, apple's IPODS by far offer the most convienent - fastest - consumer driven, costumer support. They offer FREE updates, where microsoft always charges for software updates. Itunes is in a class by itself for usability, organization, and reliability in storing and accessing your music.

Unless there is a critical need to have all in one, in your pocket, wait for the kinks to be ironed out, compatiable junk and connectivity, storage, more options, etc. plus reduced price :-). As the copy cats gather the novelty of "me first" will wear off, except for business people who stand to gain for their guys always on the go.

Seems there is a flaw in the browser on the iphone that will open it up to hackers.

Always? I don't remember every paying to update my Windows Media Player, which I use to sync with my Samsung MP3 player.
I'll never understand the world's blind hatred of Microsoft. They have their faults, as does every company, but they don't deserve half the flak they catch.

yea so im in the position for a new phone & im starting to think about doing the iphone. went to the store today & thought it was pretty cool. the lower cost is the reason why im thinking about it. plus, im going to try to do a family plan with either father / brother who already have att blackberrys. just wanted to see if there were any new updates on it from the members here.
one of the main reasons is the syncing with my mac. i have an original treo thats really beat up now. i hate the problems with syncing it, esp with my calendar, since i have to delete everything.
anywho, any thoughts? dont bother with the mac sucks line, i love apple. anything with the phone though?

I don't know if they're compatible with family plans, because I know in general it's an iPhone-specific plan that's priced pretty high.

09-09-2007, 08:15 AM
yea, so it doesnt look like they work with the family plans.
heres another question.
is it possible to get the iphone without the internet / unlimited data plan?
some of you are prob thinking im an idiot. but, i had the internet when i got the treo. did i use the email / internet? yes. but, i was always around a computer, so is it really worth the additional $20 / month? i cancelled the internet on it & have been fine since then.
so the question goes back to am i an idiot for getting an iphone w/out the internet, assuming they'll let me?
well, the main reasons i want it is for the phone, ipod & syncing with calendar & contacts on my mac. is the additional $20 really worth it? im going with no.
all that being said, they prob wont let me do it

It would be interesting to know what you can do with it once it's hacked. If you can switch networks, maybe you can have it on ATT with a different plan too. Might not be something you want to mess around with though.

As I find them no big deals!
