from PFT:

"Multiple league sources tell us that the San Francisco 49ers have struck a deal with first-round tackle Joe Staley, the 28th overall selection in the 2007 draft.

Though we don't yet have the numbers, we're told that the deal represents an 8.2 percent increase over the package given to the 28th overall pick in the 2006 draft, Jags tight end Marcedes Lewis.

Stay tuned for more."

The San Diego Chargers on Monday afternoon reached a contract agreement in principle with first-round draft choice Craig Davis, ESPN.com has learned. A speedy wide receiver from LSU, Davis is expected to challenge for meaningful playing time in 2007 as part of the team's young pass-catching corps.

As the 30th player selected overall this year, Davis will sign a five-year contract. Financial details of the deal were not immediately available.

FALCONS SIGN ANDERSON

After eight straight days of bad news, the Atlanta Falcons finally have something positive to discuss.

A league source tells us that defensive end Jamaal Anderson, the No. 8 overall choice in the 2007 draft, has agreed to terms with the Falcons.

Per the source, Anderson inked a five-year deal with $15.36 million in guaranteed money, which represents a 13.4 percent increase over the No. 8 selection in 2006. The total possible value of the deal is $31 million, with easily attainable escalators in years four and five based on playing time and sacks.

Anderson is the highest first-round rookie to date to agree to terms. The fact that he signed a five-year deal means that he'll get to free agency faster, since the maximum duration of contracts for the players selected in the first half of round one is six years.

Thats a step in the right direction for the Landry negotiations. Hopefully we get this thing done soon. I really can't understand why the NFL doesn't have slot-specific salaries with an escalator each year. Such a thing would prevent holdouts as well as curb the increasingly ridiculous rookie deals. My guess is that language in the CBA would make such a thing impossible, but it should be considered for the next CBA renewal.

But then you wouldn't have destined-to-fail players like Brady Quinn helping themselves in sucking.

Has anyone heard anything on Landry's signing? What are the chances he holds out?

La Confora said that talks are on-going, and I think he mentioned that they were going smoothly. He said the Redskins have more than enough rookie money to spend on Landry. Maybe the FO is waiting until some other guys at 5 or 7 sign before pulling the trigger.

from PFT, from NFL Network

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have agreed to terms with defensive end Gaines Adams, the No. 4 overall pick in the draft.

Terms are not yet available.

Adams is the first player taken in the top five spots to sign.

This doesn't mean that there will be a run on the top three picks, however. Over the past few years, a big gap has developed between the contract paid to the guy taken at No. 3 and the player taken at No. 4.

The Bucs landed at No. 4 after losing a coin flip with the Browns. After the Browns finally sign No. 3 pick Joe Thomas, it could be Cleveland that in reality lost that flip.

VIKES LAND ADRIAN

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Vikings have agreed to terms with running back Adrian Peterson, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2007 draft.

Per Schefter, Peterson has signed a five-year, $40 million contract, with $17 million in guaranteed money.

Peterson is the latest player drafted in the top 16 picks to sign a deal for less than the maximum term of six years.

The annual average of $8 million is actually greater than the average value of LaDanian Tomlinson's contract, who signed nearly three years ago an eight-year, $60 million deal.

We could have a deal with Landry very, very soon.
