4. New York Jets at Washington Redskins: This Thursday night game is personal for the Redskins and the Jets. The Redskins built their free agency plans around stealing from the Jets. They turned the Jets into their free agent farm team, grabbling wide receiver Laveranues Coles, kicker John Hall, guard Randy Thomas and return-specialist Chad Morton. That made a Jets team thinner, which isn't a good thing when you have the league's toughest schedule. To make matters worse, the Jets lost quarterback Chad Pennington for most of the season with a shattered left wrist. Can Vinny Testaverde foil the offseason work of the Redskins by winning in FedEx Field? That would be an embarrassment to owner Daniel Snyder. Moreso, it wouldn't help Steve Spurrier. Snyder bought his $5 million coach the missing pieces to his offense. He filled out the offensive line. He got a go-to receiver in Coles. He resolved the kicking problems. Now, it's time for Spurrier to win some ballgames.

If we miss the playoffs, Spurrier deserves the boot.

I disagree... it takes a few years to build a winner... he really only has this first year... last year was Marty's team.

It does take time to build a winner but in this era of free agency, owners are expecting teams to win fast.

For once, I agree with ESPN. Spurrier needs to win some ball games.

I agree that it takes time to build a team. Year One is to get back to respectabilty, which Spurrier failed to do. Year Two is to get to the playoffs, which I doubt will happen.

It's probable that you will not be getting that with Spurrier as HC.

Why? So we can bring in another HC...and (yet again) another Defensive Coordinator? I'm SURE Lavar would love that!
We need to live and die with Spurrier. At least for the 3 year plan.

I agree SS needs to win some games and make the playoffs but unless the team really tanks I can not see Snyder canning him. Give him his 3 years and see what we got. Remember making the playoffs with a pass heavy offense with a QB with 5 starts is a lot of pressure

It would be great for the Skins to win a lot of games this year. Maybe we can, but with some many new faces it will take some time to get the offense rolling and the wins coming in. Thank god the Jets and Falcans will be without their starting QB's, that should make the transition a little easier. Spurrier needs to show us that the team is making positive progress. If he does he'll be gauranteed at least another year (probably even if he doesn't - Snyder wants to safe face for all the revolving doors).
Anywho, I hope Spurrier succeeds! If he does we get a winning Redskins franchise again AND EXCITING WIDE OPEN FOOTBALL. Got to love the sound of that.

My feelings as well. Back early in the summer that's all we were talking about was a 3 year plan. Give SS his 3 years to see what he does.

I don't think this year is the measuring stick for Ballcoach. Yeah we need to win games but next year will be the third season under him and that will be the year that we have to make the playoffs, even though I would'nt mind it this year.
Remember Coach Norv was here for 7 years but then again Danny is no Mr. Cooke.

Thing is Spurrier is the one that said last years team was not fast enough. Well, we gave him speed plus a better OLine. Now, show us the STUFF!

I have to say you're probably the most anti-Spurrier person I've ever met.

I see both sides of this.First of all SS has gotten the speed he so desired and he should be able to do more with it now that hes in his second season. He needs to walk the walk because hes already talked the talk.Bottom line we need to show improvement(ie,cut down on Turnovers, penalties, etc.)that helps this team win the close games.
However, i realistically dont expect all that to happen this year.We are not at the level we need to be yet, nor should we be with all the recent turnover in the past few years.Give SS some time and we will improve every year.He won 7 games last year with Marty's team and a QB/RB rotation. We are more built to his liking this year and that should show up in atleast a 9-7 season.
