A day after being cut unexpectedly by the New England Patriots, safety Lawyer Milloy has reached an agreement in principle with the Buffalo Bills.

The teams open the season against each other Sunday in Buffalo.

The Bills beat out the Redskins, who were the other team making a serious offer to the four-time Pro Bowl selection. The Bills had set Wednesday as a deadline day for getting a deal done with Milloy.

Well it would have been nice to have him but I would still like to see IFfy get another full season under his belt. I would have been happy to have him in the defense this year

Im not too awful upset over this either.Would have been nice but Ohalete, if he can show more consistency, can certainly be a solid if not spectacular starter beside Bowen. It certainly is an upgrade over Shade and Terrell.

To the ones who are dissapointed...sorry guys. I think the fact that he would face the patriots twice a year made his decision clear. :)

It must suck to have an inferior GM who isn't smart enough to protect his investment in his star player by making an offer that would require teams to give up 2 1st rounders. It must suck to see all your favorite players getting treated so fairly by another franchise. It must suck to be the worst team in your division. Im glad Im not a Jets fan.

A great defense can lose a safety and still be great... how important was the safety position for the 2002 Bucs or 2000 Ravens... Pats are going to be fine without Milloy...

But a lame duck defense needs to spend.. what $4M+ on a safety to get better... That must be one desperate organization to pay that kind of money to a safety... and NO, Milloy will not turn the Bills into a great defense. Sorry... no CBs, no pass rush... even I know how to attack that defense...

Buffalo has some decent CBs and will have more than enough pass rush from blitzing LBs. Fletcher, Spikes, and Posey are a great combo, and Posey's especially good at attacking the QB.

I'd say a really good safety could put this defense over the top, which is what may have just happened.

The spread offense will annhilate any defense that relies on blitzing LBs as a pass rush. When you go up against an offense that spreads the defense out with 3 or 4 WR's plus an RB that can line up in the slot... you can't afford to rush more than 4 unless you are playing some type of a 3 - 4...

The only defenses to beat the Raiders O last year belonged to the Dolphins and Bucs... neither team blitzed an LB once... They did it with a 15+ sack DEs (Taylor and Rice) and either a pair of great CB's (Madison and Surtain) or a great back 7 scheme (cover - 2)... Bills' D doesn't have any of that...

The Pats don't exactly have the wide recieving corps needed to take advantage of that. In fact, few teams do. You're lucky the Raiders are one of them.

That could change this year. In addition to the Raiders, Rams, and Chiefs of last year... I hear the Steelers, Titans, Broncos, Giants, and Vikings (just to name a few) are going to move to the spread offense.

In my opinion, it is the running back (and obviously offensive line) that makes that offense. Rice and Porter are solid... but Tim Brown was barely worth his salt last year. But Garner, Faulk, and Holmes are 3 of the most versatile backs in the league... It'll be interesting to see if any of those teams trying this offense can pull it off... should be a great opening weekend...

I'll bet Milloy signed with the Bills to be able to play the Pats twice a year and show them they made a mistake.

There's a difference between running a spread offense and running it well. The entire AFC South runs the spread offense 2/3 of the time, most in the league. That means teams like the Jaguars and Texans run a majority of their plays with a spread offense. But would they be able to score much against the Bills? No, because they don't have the recievers necessary to take advantage of the Bills' weak secondary. It's the same with the Titans, Giants, and Vikings. Hell, I don't know why the Giants or Vikings would want to at all, both would benefit more from an extra blocker than an extra reciever.

As for the Chiefs, they don't have the wide-outs to begin to challenge the Bills' secondary, their main offensive weapons are Holmes and Gonzalez. They'll score plenty when they face the Bills, but it won't be because of outstanding WR play.
