With so little to discuss about our beloved Redskins, I thought it might be time to make a few predictions and see what others think on who's going to stay and who's going to be gone. Of course, I can't take all the credit for thinking about this on my own... the excellent writeups about the upcoming TC battles got the brain juices flowing.
Alright so I'm going to say the breakdown is going to be straight down the middle on offense and defense (25 O, 25 D, 3 ST -- Suisham, Frost and Big Red).
IMO, we're going with 8 OLmen, 4 RBs, 3 QBs, 6 WRs, 2 TEs and 2 FBs. Here's my O predictions:
OLinemen -- Rabach, Jansen, Thomas, Samuels, Whitticker (I think he's going to win the starting OG spot), Wade, Lefotu (my sleeper), Pucillo (his ability to play blocking TE on goalline gets him on)
RB -- Portis, Betts, Blaylock, Cartwright
QB -- Campbell, Brunell, Bramlet (he's going to make it with Palmer on the Practice Squad)
WR -- Moss, Randle-El, Lloyd, Thrash, Espy, McAddley (he makes it cause of his size primarily and a reminder to Lloyd.... we've got your replacement if you don't shape up, your buddy in SF)
TE -- Cooley, Yoder
FB -- Sellers, Schmitt (Sleeper #2)
My D picks are broken down like this -- 8 DLinemen, 6 CBs, 7 LBs and 4 S:
DL -- Carter, Griffin, Daniels, Golston, Wynn, Montgomery, Hickman, Buzbee (the last two guys are our YOUTH movement with Hickman pretty much knowing our defense)
CB -- Rogers, Springs, Smoot, Macklin, Butler, Westbrook (Byron brings it at TC, shows some great ST play and FINALLY pushes Jimoh off the team)
LB -- Fletcher, McIntosh, Washington, Marshall, Campbell, Sartz, Blades (both of the rooks make it due to their ST play and the chance to train under guys with similar size and ability - Blades-Fletcher, Sartz-Washington)
S -- Taylor, Landry, Prioleau, Fox (only cause of his ST play, Doughty goes to the PS)

Oh as for the PS, here are my picks:
Jordan Palmer, QB
Reed Doughty, S
Tyler Ecker, TE
Burl Toler, WR
Stephon Heyer, OL
Chris Wilson, DE
Leigh Torrence, CB
Anthony Trucks, LB

Nice job R4L....those choices work for me. I think your sleeper picks are good ones. But if they play like they did last year I will post and let you know that your team was crappy hahaha. Unfortunately my choices wouldnt do much better/worse. Go Skins !!!!

I agree with most I just think Buzbee won't make it because Evans is still here and when he is in he usually plays at a high level and they just signed him to a contract extension before last year. I really hope we've found a diamond in the rough with Westbrook making it at CB and I think GW will want 5 safetys not just 4 but with 6 CBs he might just keep 4 on the active roster. and Kary Cambell will make the team at MLB because of his special teams play.

even tho guys like wynn and daniels can move inside, i dont think griffin, golston, and montgomery are enough at DT

Starting with teams, I see Suisham, Frost and of course, the lowest rated player in Madden 07, Ethan Albright.
Here's the O
OLinemen (9) - Rabach, Jansen, Thomas, Samuels, Whitticker, Wade, Pucillo (doubles as a blocking TE), Lefotu and Tucker (my dark horse, he's super-smart so I think he can make it).
RB (4) - Portis, Betts, Blaylock, Lumsden (kidding, Cartwright)
QB (3) - Campbell, Brunell, Bramlet
WR (5) - Moss, Randle-El, Lloyd, Thrash, Espy
TE (3) - Cooley, Yoder, Ecker
FB (1) - Sellers
Here's who I think will make the D
DE (4) - Carter, Daniels, Wynn, Evans (I think one or both of the rook DEs go to the practice squad)
DT (4) - Griffin, Golston, Montgomery, Salava; I mean Salav'ea
LB (7) - Rocky, Fletcher, Washington, Campbell, Marshall, Sartz and Blades
CB (6) - Rogers, Springs, Smoot, Macklin, Butler and Westbrook (I think Butler kicks Jimoh off with good special teams play and Westbrook has too much upside)
S (4) - Taylor, Landry, Prioleau and Stoutmire (Fox is cut)

Some surprises. A vet DE will be replaced as it is clear in TC they met their match against a rookie, Evans and a tough coaching decision. Not sure, they'd even be at DT either. We HAVE to move forward with solidifying a mainstay, not a catering service.
Fox is the likely to go as a safety. Jimoh is in deep this time, doesn't look too good for him. Lloyd will respond to the pressure. Sartz surprises, supplants Campbell as a ST/depth LB.

Great lists WSF and Fire. I noticed both of you had 9 OL guys.... did we carry that many last year? Or are you two just thinking we're going 9 this year?

So you think we'll drop Dallas Sartz??? We can't put him on the PS because he'll get snatched off that thing in a minute.

I'm pretty sure we carried 9 linemen last year. It's pretty standard to carry 9, but with Pucillo and his versatility, we might end up keeping 8. Especially with the logjam we have at corner, end and safety...

Has anyone noticed that Golsten is listed at 320 pounds now, Moss is heavier also i believe. If he is that heavy that might be a good thing to clog that middle. Go Skins !!!!

Only minor suggestions.
I think 3 TE and 5 WR, with Ecker making it. We are a running team and blocking will be more important than marginal receiving.
Evans plays 2 positions, Buzbee is underweight and trying to come in one bound from Division III. Believe Evans makes it.
While I personally want Hickman to beat out Molinaro, he will have to get and stay healthy as well as show real PR promise.
If Salave'a is healthy I see 8 DL and goodbye Molinaro.
Doughty is proven on specials and a 5th S appears more likely than a 6th CB to me. Stoutmire is the 4th S instead of Fox unless ST really needs him (same for Espy/Jimoh).
I want Lefotu to make it, but Tucker has something the coaches value, smarts.
Palmer, Westbrook and Heyer are at positions of need, and if hype is accurate Buzbee/Hickman could start on the PS, with others emerging (Espy?).

Molinaro is long gone. He was down in little D, trying to find a spot on the Cowpukes, last I heard. Molinaro was an offensive tackle, BTW, perhaps you meant someone else?

Here are some disagreements:
1) I can't see Evans being beaten out by Daniels, Wynn, Hickman and Buzbee. The first two are old and fading, while the latter two are free agent rookies. Plus, Evans can play end or tackle and he is less expensive than Daniels or Wynn.
2) I don't see a 4th RB if a second FB (Schmidt) is kept.
3) Six WRs is one too many--more likely a third TE.
4) Eight Olinemen is not enough. Look for Fabini or Tucker to be a ninth Olineman.
5) May only carry 6 LBs in 2007. If Sartz and Blades show promise, and Blades shows that he won't be embarrassing when he takes defensive snaps (and also shows that he can play special teams), Khary Campbell may be in deep trouble. In a pinch, Marshall can also play in the middle. K Campbell is strictly a special teamer, and I think he is on even thinner ice than Rock Cartwright this year.

looks about right but Blaylock could slide in there, as well we might decide to invest more into the developement of Palmer rather than Bramlet ( he looked good but against NFLE defences)
so Whitticker has bumped Wade down the debth chart?? guess I'm not supprised as Wade is so freakin tall for a G

Sorry! I think the 8th position is between Salave'a and Hickman with Boschetti gone. If Hickman shows well then Big Joe is gone with Wynn shifting to DT. If Hickman is PS or out then Salave'a makes it. Sorry about the error, and thanks for pointing it out.:goodpost: Incidently, where is Fabini in all our projections?

Schmidt can play TE as well (known to have great hands) and is looked at as more of a HB/TE than a traditional FB. So really you've got 4 TEs with Schmidt and Pucillo switching positions in certain situations.
We ran with 4 RBs last year... and with the new two back system this year, I think we'll definitely need 4.
You're probably right about needing 9 OL and 6 WRs being too many. If one more OL made the team, I would guess the two guys you mentioned. McAddley would be the odd-man out if we only keep 5 WRs.
If we run with 6 LBs and 9 DL, KCampbell would be out with Evans making it. As for the youngsters not making the team, I just don't buy that Evans is so much better than Wynn or Daniels (and both of these guys are staying -- Wynn due to his seniority and versatility, Daniels due to his contract not being cap friendly).
Only minor suggestions.

I'm not so sure Ecker would be the 3rd TE to make it if we went that route... everything I've read about him suggests that he's a raw talent and could possibly be moved to OT. No good with the hands and "hear sfootsteps". Not good for a TE... even a blocking one. I think he'll end up on the PS and be molded into an OT. Edwards is my guess for making the team as the 3rd TE (but I still back my original prediction on this one -- 2 traditional TEs with FB Schmidt and OL Pucillo being blocking TEs in certain packages).
I think Big Joe is done. The youngsters are going to take over and we'll see Wynn and Daniels inside more often than in the past. Both of those guys have played the positions and their versatility will be the reasons they're still on the squad with more young guys making the team.
With us using more man-to-man coverages on D, I just can see why we would need just as many safeties as corners. We'll need to rotate guys out pretty frequently and we're supposedly playing a one-in-the-box-one-back safety set as our base. 4 safeties should be enough.

I must confess that I know virtually nothing about Schmidt. If he really can play TE, Ecker may be headed for the PS.
As for carrying 4 RBs last season, I think Portis' questionable health may have necessitated that. In regard to using two-back sets, I will believe that when I see it in the games. I think more likely Portis and Betts will rotate 60-40.
As for Evans, I think he will make the roster whether the team carries 8 or 9 Dlinemen. He should beat out at least Wynn and one of Hickman and Buzbee. If it were up to me, I would cut loose both Wynn and Daniels. But, if it would cost too much cap room to get rid of Daniels, then Wynn this season and PD next season.
