MIAMI -- The Miami Dolphins released quarterback Daunte Culpepper on Tuesday, ending the former Pro Bowler's short stint in South Florida and wrapping up what became a contentious split between the player and the team.

The Dolphins made the move in a one-sentence release, without further comment.

Miami tried for weeks to trade Culpepper, the former Minnesota star who was acquired by the Dolphins before the 2006 season even though he was coming off major knee surgery. Culpepper never regained his form last year, struggling in four games before the team shut him down so he could continue rehabilitating the knee.

This was expected. But where does he sign? Jax?

Early rumors from every major website...Redskins are interested.

Just thought I'd beat them all to the punch. Jax seems like an ideal place for him to go.

I would guess Jax, but I'm not sure how he helps them.

Oakland would seem logical but Kiffin won't take him if he's not playing well being a former qb coach. Should be interesting.

I don't understand why people think that Jax needs a QB. They David Garrard. [?]

I could see a place like Baltimore, maybe Houston. [as a backup]

I also wouldn't be surprised if Philly gave him a call.

Neither do I. Right now they have two QBs that they seem not too confident in. I'm not sure how adding a third one (and nobody can be very confident in Culpepper right now) would be a good idea.

Could Daunte ever stay healthy but I doubt he will ever be close to what he once was

According to Schefter on NFL network today he is pratically on the Jags roster. Apparently they have been in contract discussions on a 3 year deal. I would be shocked if he didn't wind up in Jacksonville.

The Dolphins could have taken Brees last year but they opted for Culpepper. But hey, Nick Saban is a genious, right?

Exactly. Jax has enough QB controversy and Culpeper isn't guaranteed to be better than either of them. I think Baltimore sounds likely. Houston, Cleveland, maybe Detroit. I think he'll be surprised how little interest there is for him (especially as a starter) because if he's not throwing well, all he has left is his one fumble per game average.

If i remember correctly that was one of the reasons saban left. He wanted Brees but managment overruled him and got Culpepper.

But that was a while ago so i could be wrong.

the only reason i see him going to Jax is because of Mike Tice. Other than that i dont see any other reason. they already have 2 QBs that could start, so i dont know why they would go after Culpepper. But if they do get Culpepper, does that mean they release Leftwich or Gerrard?

Leftwich wouldn't last too long in the same roster as Culpepper. Same thing like Culpepper with Green, ironically.

I think Leftwich may be gone soon, but Garrard seems more than capable to take the helm in Jacksonville so I too don't think Culpepper will fit in very well there either. Such a fall from grace for Culpepper.........

It's not like it was the draft and the players had no say in where they were going to end up.

in my madden franchise, campbell went down for the year. so i traded for daunte culpepper. he really hasnt played that well. so i'd advise teams to stay away. but some team will take a chance on him. he's put up some really good numbers in past seasons, he's worth the risk, at the right price.

In an effort to prove you cannot have enough mediocre QB's, Gruden and the Bucs are meeting with Dante.

At first I thought this was a joke, but after thinking about it makes sense. Jeff Garcia is 37 years old and is obviously not the long term solution in Tampa. I don't think the Simms has the ability to be more than a back-up and I get the feeling Gruden thinks the same thing.

So, bring in Culpepper, let him sit for at least the first half of this year behind Garcia and get fully healthy. Then, depending on how Tampa is doing midway, play him the second half of the season or the beginning of '08. He's only 30 years old and could be the starting QB in Tampa for quite a few years once he's healthy.

Excellent assessment.
