I asked Mr. shariff if i could post this here and he gave me the go ahead. He does ask some good questions.
He does not have a transcript of it so do not ask for one.
My name is Shan Shariff and I am a Sports Talk host for Delmarva's ESPN Radio 1240 in Maryland. I interviewed Carlos Rogers today on my show and figured this could fill some time while waiting for the beginning of training camp. I talked to Carlos about his stone hands, Fred Smoot's mouth and the impact that Tom Friend's ESPN article had on the team.
You can find the conversation on my interview page:
http://www.mtslive.com/sports.htm
I also have previous offseason interviews with Jordan Palmer, H.B. Blades and Byron Westbrook. I will gladly post the other interviews on my page based upon your interest in hearing them. I will check back in to gauge your interest.
Enjoy

I don't know what to say about Carlos Rogers overall talent. he's a good hitter, but it seems like as soon as a wr takes him up the field its a wrap he just doesn't have the catch up speed, if he's that slow with the deep speed what were we thinking taking him. I'm just confused with him.
He dropped alot of potential picks which leads me to believe that he was in position to make plays but still the lack of speed really boggles my mind am I tripping or is the speed thinking something I'm misjudging.
Confidence is a big thing thats apparent he lacked it for stretches last season having him play so far off the wr.
Maybe the new scheme with more man and press and with Taylor playing the deep middle maybe Rogers has a break out season.
But is it possible with his speed situation

I haven't seen a problem with his speed and he possesses very smooth hips and good COD ability. Now he's not a burner with tons of speed to spare like DeAngelo Hall or Champ Bailey, but he's a quick guy. 4.42 40 yard dash. He's also really strong (300 lb bench) with an excellent vertical (38.5 inches). He's not lacking in the physical gifts.
As far as the 10 yard cushion, I think that goes to coaching. I somehow doubt that Carlos would have kept giving those cushions if the coaching staff said press the receiver. We are going back to more man coverage and press coverage so I think he'll fix that.
As far as a breakout season, I have hope for him because he could have easily had 5-6 INTs in 2006 but he had a bum finger or hand or something and that probably factored into it big time.

I just listened to Westbrook, Blades, and Palmer's entire interviews (freakin long offseason, what can I say?) and I'll try to provide some insight:
Westbrook: Sounds really pumped after showing the staff some quality play in the rookie minicamps...worked out since the end of the last NFL season with his brother Brian in VA under a trainer who trains NFLers in the offseason including Shawn Merriman...Byron has gained roughly 20 lbs. since the start of his senior season and is up to 195lbs, which he thinks is key for his position due to the fact he is already quite fast, and believes his athleticism impressed the coaches (hopefully shares the same abilities as his bro)...picked off Jordan Palmer in the one minicamp on a play that vets on the field said would have been returned for a TD...well-spoken young guy and good sense of humor...also said Laron Landry is always around the ball and is serious business on the field.
Blades: Said the coaches have him playing at MLB exclusively, psyched to play behind LFB...said GW was busting on him that he should always have leverage on lineman or runners because he's already so low to the ground, lol...mentioned that Laron Landry is a "just a freak, man" and that he was covering TE's (weren't doing any hitting at that camp yet) and was always making plays...sounded really confident and believed his NFL pedigree has served him well because he's not intimidated and already is grasping GW's playbook, and mentioned that he was already being given more responsibilities including putting defensive guys in proper position on the field in the minicamps (other rookies and tryout players I assume). Another well-spoken, friendly sounding guy.
Palmer: Sounds JUST like Carson vocally...really polished speaker for such a young guy (22), making jokes about how he's "much better looking" than Carson...had fun at the minicamps and said the rookies only probably got a spoonful of Saunders' plays, but he prides himself on being smart with a strong arm...said Saunders stated that "There's no graduating class here" so it will be up to him to beat out one of the vets (or Bramlet I assume) for a roster spot, which he will be trying to do "without stepping on the toes of a 13 year veteran like Brunell or Collins"...respectful and extremely polite but funny as well...joked about how Carson "has all the money in the world but doesn't believe in paying $20 for a haircut" (both Jordan and Carson get their hair cut at home by their ladies)... Wants to be an NFL starter someday, period, but knows that he will have to put a ton of work and time in to make that happen...sounded loose and confident for a rookie QB, for what that's worth...said Laron Landry is unreal, "looked as big as a linebacker but was as fast as a corner" and making plays all over the place.
Basically, all three guys sounded truly confident and like they were already in the league (at least to me)...kudos to the FO for at least identifying more good character guys who are hungry to prove they should have been picked higher.
Only 8 days until you can't wipe the smile from my face.

Only 8 days until you can't wipe the smile from my face. Were they all asked about Landry or did they just bring him up spontaneously? If they just brought this up independently it speaks volumes since professional athletes are reasonably hard to impress in that regard.

They were asked about him, and all sounded seriously impressed...each gave a little laugh right after the question was asked as if to say "Man, you just don't know!"

Some info can be posted on a message board because they saw it somewhere else. Is that a crime? He asked for permission from the author to post their info here. That should be applauded.

I don't know man he seems to lack burst, anytime a wr takes him up the field when he's 5 yards off its over, Galloway made him look as if he was in quicksand he wasn't even 5 yards close to him, Stallworth did the same thing as well as others.
Carlos I'm starting to think is primarily a zone corner with no burst.
Springs you can see his makeup speed, heck even Smoot closes on the ball. But Carlos just doesn't seem to have it.
