Hey everyone, I just got back home from the Steelers game and I was in shock when I arrived @ the game. There were entirely way too many Steelers fans on our turf. It was ridiculous. I was so pissed looking @ the number of yellow towels and black jerseys sitting around me, parked around me, sitting on the shuttle around me, and so on and so on......... As a loyal Redskin fan, I would never want to sell my tickets to an opposing team's fan, but I understand that there are times when you can't make it to a game. Even still, I would try everything in my power to get them into the hands of a fellow Skins fan. We really need to fix this problem. I know this is just a preseason game, but it's still unacceptable to me. This is our house, and we need to keep it that way.

you can thank Stubhub for the number of Steeler fans there. Also, a lot of season tickets holders don't go to pre-season games. Nothing to sweat imo.

I had tickets, but couldn't go. (I offered them up here on the trading post forum, but got no responses). My boss is a Steelers fan, and a lot of people suggested I give my tickets to him, but I just couldn't do it. So unfortunately, my seats remained empty because I couldn't find someone to go, even at a reduced price. I would have gone if I could, but alas, sometimes even I can't attend every game.
The real problem here is that teams charge full price for preseason tickets. That's total B.S. Pre-season games are obviosly not as valuable as regular season games, so season-ticket holders who can't make a game are hosed. Redskins fans would rather wait to see a game that counts, but local fans of [insert pre-season-opponent here] are the only people who will give a cent to get a ticket to see their team play. So they are the ones who get the seats, and rival fans fill up our stadium.

The Steelers are probably the best fans when it comes to traveling to away games.
This is to be expected anytime you play them. They take over a stadium. I agree with you that it shouldnt happen but it does. Its tough to know who you are selling to when you are selling on stubhub.

even after the Steel Curtain days..a regular season Steeler ticket was easy money..and we had a waiting list of 100,000 or better..
few want to go see exhibition games..I applaud your strength of character and fandom...but sorry..August in DC and air conditioning are the only two constants..for me..I wouldn't spend 200$ to park..for a ticket and 3 beers to sweat my tail off..for a game they don't even think a blitz package is important to install.

They didn't travel, the DC area is loaded with Pittsburgh transplants. There aren't any jobs in the 'Burgh, so anyone with an education comes to the DC area.
Anyhow, who cares who buys the $9 beers at FedEx in the preseason. Danny milks the Redskins fans enough, there is nothing wrong with opposing fans helping the revenue stream during exhibition games.

the State of Maryland underwrites the theft of Cleveland's team..we pay for a State of the Art Stadium for them..
have no rivalry other than geographic..yet both sides engage in demeaning rhetoric..
that is little more than generalization..as if we aren't supposed to have any affinity for the opposing city's team..or even pay attention to them
I have been a Redskin fan since Bill McPeak coached them and then they brought in Sonny..but where I live..the media is a shared one..

Then you're not paying attention. The tax dollars from the DC suburbs (the largest tax block in MD) are disproportionately funneled up to Baltimore to try and revitalize the Inner harbor and the rest of "Charm City". The whole state (including MoCo, PG, Howard, Frederick and Charles) subsidized not one but TWO of their stadiums through both tax and lottery dollars.
And what do we get in return? Annapolis wouldn't pay a dime to help JKC build his stadium or to assist PG county in develop the roads to and from the stadium stating that such an undertaking would be "financial irresponsible". LMAO!
Oh, and here is my favorite part. JKC graciously assisted in bringing a football team back to that second-rate town to replace a team that never would have left if they had just supported them in the first place. He even gave up primary broadcast rights in most of Maryland (much to the chagrin of Redskin fans in that area). The Baltimorons didn't give him so much as a thank you. But, when Angelos blocks DC getting a baseball team for the better part of the decade, the Baltimorons back him like he's their very own Hugo Chavez.

I have always disagreed about the view that Angelos blocked DC from getting a team..the hapless DC gov't and the unbelievable incompetance
they possessed..made it impossible to compete with Angelos..they helped lose the Senators..and were impotent to dispense the perks Major League owners deem earmarked to them..just because they are who they are
the Newspapers in either town couldn't reflect an honest by-line on anything even related to the situation
The Tax money ..I live on the shore..it was the DC suburbs that got us the current racketeer we now have in Annapolis...and nobody else..
Maryland is a horrible State politically..
I was a Senator fan..and destroyed as an eleven year old when they left..Griffith left...Short left...Cooke left too..I am tired of all of the BS when it comes to DC vs Baltimore..we have Dallas..they have Pittsburgh

The real Senators left because Griffith couldn't afford to field a competitive team and, as a result, let the team decay (they were almost always last or next to last in the standings). To seal the deal, he then left the team to his near penniless idiot nephew when he died.
they helped lose the Senators..and were impotent to dispense the perks Major League owners deem earmarked to them..just because they are who they are
We lost the Senators for the same reason Balmer lost the Colts. If you don't support the team, they will find a new market. With the crap quality that the Senators put on the field (both iterations) fans aren't going to come forever. The Redskins are the very rare exception to that rule.

Holy revisionist history. There were 4 expansion teams. 3 would have been better here. The Expos would have been moved earlier but they have to destroy the franchise first because Angelos didn't want a new team that was instantly better than his piece of trash. Then in order to finally make the move, they had to agree to give away the Nats broadcast rights to King Peter.
If you think any and all things regarding Washington baseball didn't get the approval of the greek troll, you really are misinformed.

Don't forget that MLB held on sale of the team until after the FA period had cooled down so that a) we would lose all of our FAs and b) would not be able to sign any top FA ourselves. I really hope that Angelos DIAF.

I agree with most of what you say, but the reasons in bold are why I don't like their fans in general. I was always indifferent to the Bmore Colts and then also the Bmore Browns/Ravens. That was until the endless smack talk and hatred I received from Ravens fans, which unfortunately are the majority where I live. I never understood the hatred, but it got old really quick and still makes no sense to me as I still don't consider them a rival at all. That is why I dislike the Ravens and their fans in general. Although I do really envy the way their team is run and really like Bisciotti, not so much Modell.

That's true. You can thank Congress for that; they used the stick of the antitrust exemption as a means to get a team back in DC quickly.

Also true. A lot of folks didn't want to go downtown for years after the riots.

Then you should blame Angelos for the current state of the Os. He's been sapping you folks for the last 15 years worse than Danny has the Redskin fans. At least Danny *tries* to field a winner. Angelos is more concerned about strip mining revenue out of the DC region (via TV rights) than in fielding a winning team in Baltimore.
What's deliciously ironic is that, while many predicted the Nats to be the worst team in baseball this year, Angelos' team will likely only finish 4 or 5 games better than the Nats -- who likely won't be the worst team in baseball, lol.

You have hit the nail on the head. The Redskins are the most expensive team to view in person in the NFL, both preseason and regular.
Add to that the fact that PIttsburg has a huge, national following (nobody under 45 stays in the Pittsburg area) and Augest in Washington is local get-out-of-town month and we have lots of yinzers polluting Fed-Ex.

Yes the Steelers probably have the most national following in the league. There is a huge Steeler fan club in Kansas City and they showed up in significant numbers a Arrowhead Stadium when they played the Chiefs. They even met the Steelers at their hotel. Look at the Super Bowl they played in Detroit against Seattle.
Also like Redskin Rich said a lot of people from Pittsburgh leave the city but stay loyal to their team. During the 70's when the steel mills were shutting down, "Burghers" left in droves in search of jobs.

Preseason is junk if you ask me for season ticket holders. No way they should be full price. Also I am not driving from Virginia Beach for a game that does not count. If I was visiting that weekend I would proably go but not high on my list.
I let my dad give the tickets to someone at his church. Not sure if anyone goes or not. NO WAY I sell my tickets on any internet site and have scum from other teams sitting in my seat. Not going to happen, and I ain't rich, just a simple retired Navy CPO :) but I'll eat it.

1/29th of the Expos and he owned the team in the closest market to DC and tried to assert that a team in DC would be an infringement on his territory. Territory that was given to his predecessors that allowed Baltimore to have a team in the first place by the owners of the Washington franchise.
What makes DC so appealing? How about it's the Nations Capitol and the baseball claims to be the national pastime. How about because DC had 2 of the richest counties in the country as a part of its suburbs? How about the act that DC is the 7th largest media market in the country?
Feel free to prove your allegations about the Post lying.
The fact of the matter is that Angelos should've been entitled to Nothing in compensation and he certainly shouldn't be getting a compensation because the Washington team broadcasts games as is the current arrangement.

The stadium is too big and the change in the rule that ticket holders have to buy all ten games is the root of the problem. Moving back to "right of first refusal" to ticket holders would help. When I was on the wait list, I went to every preseason game. I don't believe the tickets lasted beyond the wait list. At least not often. RFK was packed with fans for preseason, back in those days. And they gave great giveaways. I've still got a real nice hat. This is the result of greed.

They should give us an opportunity to sell our preseason tickets to fans who want them. I always sell mine for about half price but it's really highway robbery that I have to pay full price for something no one can claim is a good deal.

They should give us an opportunity to sell our preseason tickets to fans who want them. I always sell mine for about half price but it's really highway robbery that I have to pay full price for something no one can claim is a good deal.
I typically give mine away. I look at it as buying 8 games with a surcharge.

I remember it was very hard for non-season ticket holders to acquire preseason tickets to RFK and regular season was near impossible. Now it can be hard to give away tickets at times.
Also it is far too easy for anyone with the money to get tickets to Fedex, especially preseason. No doubt the internet has made acquiring tickets a lot easier. Having 90K+ seats doesn't hurt the availability either. Except for the fact the Skins play there, I hate Fedex.

Tell me about it. Folks don't want to go to the games anymore if they're preseason. To me, the experience is still why you go to a game.

Back in the day when season ticketholders didn't have to buy the preseason games, anyone could get preseason tickets by standing in line at the RFK box office when they went on sale. I used to do it all the time before I had season tickets.
It probably wouldn't work out as well now because of the internet and the increase of brokers (read- scalpers) that came with it.
As a season ticketholder, I have little interest in the preseason games. My 8 real games and hopefully a playoff game are enough.

What experience? Sitting in traffic, $9 beers and commercials between plays.

Let's face it the people in PA move down here because it's a better place to live with better looking chicks ;)

That's 2 play-off games we'll be goin' to this year. Lest we forget the nfc championship.

I can't make next weekend's game so, I was trying to unload my tix and came across this site:

This is a great way to help out an under privileged kid and not let your tix go to waste.

This was 1979 now so I don't know when it changed but I went to Hects and bought a preseason ticket. Back then you just went to Ticketron and bought one. I don't know if the season ticket holders had first crack at them or not.
RFK for a presason was fun, at least the game I went to. I remeber thinking wow this is great. Decided right then I would get on the waiting list (got my tickets in 1998). The week before the first game in 79 against the Oilers I saw adds in the Post for tickets but just for that one game they seemed a little pricey for this 19 year old. Just beofre opening day I found an add for 1 ticket, all 8 games some guy sold me for $110. Lived in Arlington so just took the subway down. man that was fun. The guy sold me the ticket each summer for 3 seasons (last 2 seasons of Pardee, first season of Gibbs). I stopped in 1982 :( Man that was the wrong year to quit.

Preseason is junk if you ask me for season ticket holders. No way they should be full price. Also I am not driving from Virginia Beach for a game that does not count. If I was visiting that weekend I would proably go but not high on my list.
well preseason or not, i haven't missed a game, and i drive from ocean city maryland. That is 2.5 hours up an 2.5 hours back. And yes i go to the preseason games, and i haven't missed one since i got tickets. do i believe they should be full price, absolutly not, do i still think we should go to the game, yes. Im not to worrierd about loyalty until the season starts, but if you have a ticket, i think you should go, or make sure you give it to a skins fan. and not to another teams fans

I'm with Rich on this one. That is a lot of coin to put forth just to watch Mason or Blaylock run the ball for most of the game.

Not to take this OT, but that's just not true. Maryland might very well be, per capita, the ugliest state in the union. The transplants are the only thing that saves us from that distinction. :D

I don't think you can be more off-base here. PG county is widely recognized in the Black community as having some of the finest women in the country. PG County and Atlanta.
In fact, I can testify to the fact that the women in Maryland blow the women here in Tampa away.......by alot.
Besides, I don't think you've been to WV or Western PA. They blow MD away on the ugly scale.
(I think you've been hanging out in Balmer and have ruined your perspective)

I'm a WVU alum and never had any qualms with the girls from WV or Western PA. In fact, WVU had more hot chicks and scantily clad co-eds than any Virginia school I visited. Sure, the out of staters kind of rule the school, but I still came across some farmers' daughters that blew away chicks from other schools!

Comparing Maryland women to Georgia women is an insult to Georgia. And vision.

You've been married too long. No part of Maryland blows away any part of Florida.
Besides, I don't think you've been to WV or Western PA. They blow MD away on the ugly scale.
Yeah, because women like Jennifer Garner come from Maryland. Women like Jennifer Garner don't even drive THROUGH Maryland, lol. I think the best looking thing to come out of Maryland are Goldie Hawn and Joan Jett. That's rough.
(I think you've been hanging out in Balmer and have ruined your perspective)
Well, it sure doesn't help. :D
BTW, this is a fascinating, if mindless, topic. If you feel like discussing it further, we should break it out into a new thread in the Apache.

As someone who went to both WVU and UMD I have to disagree with you. Besides, every good looking chick at WVU was from either MD or NJ.
College Park vs Morgantown? LMAO....it's not even close.
BNG - I agree...start up the thread.....

I haven't read the entire thread...so pardon me if I'm repeating a lot of comments. A high population of Steeler fans @ FedEx doesn't surprise me one bit. I could see the same thing happening even if it was for a regular season game. (Remember the Packers regular season game a few years ago? It looked like Christmas at FedEx with all of the Burgundy and Green jerseys in every other seat. Ugh)
The Steelers have the best traveling fanbase in the country....so its not a surprise to see them make the day trip to FedEx. Heck, that entire town vacations in Ocean City, MD every year so driving to FedEx is an even shorter triip for them. :D
Anyone remember the Steelers @ Cowboys game a few year ago? 2/3 of Texas Stadium was waving a yellow towel.
Gotta respect a fanbase that represents well.
