If I were to revive this car, I'd keep the body shape and rear engine design but change just about everything else.

If I had the cash and they did what you say, I would definitely consider getting one.

They basically did. They suped up the hp, lightened the load, and changed all the electronics. So dust off your Don Johnson suits and get yourself in one BNG :)

What else is there to change? The stainless steel body? I kind of like that, very low maintenance.

Also VERY heavy. The curb weight on a DeLorean (2,700 lbs) is ridiculous. When gas was $1/gallon, maybe, but not when it's $3/gallon.
I also think they should take the opportunity to make the electronics inside world-class. Like bluetooth everything, GPS, wireless internet innovations... the works. Hell, put a PC in it. That would be selling along the perceived story of the car. And, since they're selling to über geeks anyway, it would just bump the appeal.
If they could make it alternative fuel (like perhaps Mr. Fusion?) that would be great too, lol.
EDIT: Then again, the curb weight for a DeLorean is actually less thn a hybrid Accord (3,900 lbs). That is crazy.

You can always get an imitation made out of plastic, if you're that worried about fuel mileage and not concerned with safety.

Unbelievable that this comes from a man that drives a jeep... ;)

No, I wouldn't use plastic. But you can use other alloys that are lighter and just as strong. That should add to the low end speeds too.

Jeeps are a different vehicle. It's intentionally basic and that's some of the appeal. The DeLorean was never basic. It was expensive, back in the day and had things like power door locks when almost nothing aside from the Cadillac did.
From a marketing standpoint, they have an opportunity to corner the concept model niche market. Technologists, geeks and general early adopters would line up to buy the DeLorean if they tech'd up the inside. If they could make it all electric or run on old gym socks, so much the better.

Just fill the trunk with cocaine, that would be a good, nostalgic, authentic sales ploy, from a marketing standpoint. :)
Seriously, besides the existing bad karma from the ill fate of the original DeLorean, the car is seriously dated in style and not a classic by any means.
This venture will fail just as miserably as the other one did but much quieter.

No not a classic I agree but a nostalgia piece for internet millionaires. They are only making 20-25 a year so I could see them selling for about 5 years maybe.

They can't be uglier than those ugly Scion boxes. There is a market for high tech vehicles.

Anyone ever drive/ride in one?
One of my fraternity brothers owned one so I got a couple of rides in it. (He didn't let us drive it. lol) The doors were super cool, and the car stands out like a guy wearing a Stephen Davis jersey at FedEx...but the rest of the car didn't impress me. Seemed very plain inside. And contrary to popular thought, there was no flux capacitor behind the front seats. ;)
