View Full Version : The same old problems...

There were great games turned in by Ramsey, Coles, Betts, Hall, Arrington and Bowen. However we could have lost a game we dominated because of THE SAME OLD PROBLEMS!
PENALTIES- Again we were the most penalized team. The two personal foul penalties, One jump starting thier 1st drive that would have been saddled w/ a 3rd and 9 but instead gave them a first down at midfield that led to a TD. The second giving them another midfield starting point...The four penalties on the Offense killed our drives, costing us points and field position. The hold on the KO, the offsides on the D... I think the Jets only had one 5yd, false start call.
PUNTS- When we have the ball on 4th down, near midfield and Barker punts it to thier 23, that is not a good punt. Putting it inside the 10 yard line is a good punt. That scene happened a few times and luckily the defense held. He needs to give the other team the stress of having to go that extra 20 yards to score!
TURNOVERS- We have got to win the battle of turnovers. It is a rare team that wins while being minus in the TO ledger. We were one of the worst at losing fumbles last year. We were also one of the worst at causing fumbles. This pattern needs to stop.
SACK STARVED D-LINE- We have to have pressure from Bruce (Lord knows he can't play the run!) or the other Ends. I know it's early, but it may be time to see what LaDarius Jackson can do. We can't go on counting on coverage sacks like last year, we need pressure that causes mistakes, interceptions and fumbles!

The reason the Jets were able to hang in this game was they won the battle of field position. They had the easier path to score. We had to have longer drives with more risk. The Team has to improve on these problems.
The good news is we have great players who stepped up and overcame the handicaps. Can they do it every week?
Not to put a damper on a win but...it did'nt need to be that close.

Most of these things can be worked on , thank God, but our pass rush is really bad. Watched the game again for any hopefull signs from the front 4, and nothing. Clogged up the middle and stuffed the run well but no one can shed a block and get into the backfield on a passing down. All four of our DTS are the same guy. I think we should have at least kept Carl Powell. He was a High energy tytpe guy who got into the other teams backfield, and came cheap. Dont get me wrong I am happy they played well against the run but soon enough we are going to get picked apart if we do not find some push. I agree it is time to see what LaDarius Jackson can do. Anytime he has been on the field in the past hes looked good.

I agree with alot of what you said cam but I saw something from this team that I haven't seen in awhile. Resilience (it's probably spelled wrong because I'm drunk, but you get my point). With 5.58 left on the clock and those back to back penalties on offense, I thought to myself that we might lose this one. They never gave up and I haven't seen that in awhile from this team.

I think the poor areas of our team were exposed roght alongside the strengths. If we dont find a way to get pass rush and protection from BOTH of our lines then this sort of win will not come against the better teams.

I think NY is a good team. I also saw some determanation and desire that had been lacking in past years.

Skins fan.... I beleive I am still drunk and it is almost 11 am..... We were trying to stop the run last night the pass rush was not a big part of the game plan. Now if we play that way against McNabb we will get killed

I hope you two have had some coffee by now. Pace yourselves, it's a long season.

That was funny!I agree i had that old sinking feeling after the jets tied it up,but where we differed from teams in the past we persevered and drove down the field for the win.Who says Ram isnt mobile?Hes a lot like Brad Johnson, side stepping, ducking, scampering and he knows how to get down.

The way Bruce looked last night, he may not get those other 2.5 sacks this year. That sack was all Wynn, giving Bruce a .5 was a hometown scorekeeper. Testaverde wasn't going anywhere.

I agree as well. But maybe if he gets the other 2.5 quickly he'll get out of there with the record and we can get somebody else there sooner.

In fact I saw Vinnie stumble getting off the bus, I was hoping they were going to give Bruce half a sack on that one too.

Agreed. I think the big roster turnover this off-season was a good thing just fromt he standpoint of new attitude and the way they carry themselves. There was heart and fire last night in that game and it has been awhile since we saw that last throughout the game.

Thank the Defense for:
1) Holding the Jets to 7 points (forget the sacks??)
2) Saving the O's butt, by holding both turnovers to field goals. (forget the a nice first half)
3) Saving the O's butt, by stuffing the Jets 1-2-3-&punt inside five minutes. After the O killed a drive on back-to-back penalties. (forget the scramble, etc)

Once again the game was in hand, and the O tried to give it away. And the D had to save the day again. This game had to be won twice. Nice W, but next time...win it the first time around.

I agree as well but we also can't go through a the season carrying the extra weight of poor punting/special teams coverage, stupid penalties and turnovers-which give the opposition the field position win. They did'nt take it, we gave it to them. I like the fight in our dog too. We just got to get it to stop bitting us.

We came through when it counted. We made that last drive and did it well. I think the playcalling 3rd and part of the 4th is suspect, but we moved the ball when we absolutely had to. We do have attitude and that will be nice to have around for once.

Cam, i understand pal. I am so sick of having bad blocking on St's. Its funny we spent alot of moeny on Morton, but man, how can you expect him to rip one when they can't open a seam.

Chad averaged 22.3 yards on kickoff returns and 10 on punt returns. I'd like to see those averages go up.

Our coverage team gave up too much yardage because of penalties. That has to be stopped.

Barker is still not off the stinky side of the crap-o-meter either!

true. 6 penalties for 55yds and 2 TO's plus 4 sacks is bad, but we still won.

Yes, the field position thing was a problem. we had to start deep in our own territory quite a few times and sooner or later, that comes back to haunt you. The Pass rush was a let down also. Defensive backs played pretty well. Bauman had a couple of nice plays and Matt Bowen saving the TD was big. Fred Smoot ( or is it Silky Johnson? ) I don't know what happened to him on that 3rd and long, but overall, not bad.
