the refs still stunk. How many times are we going to get bit in the rear by a whistle blowing a play dead when it should be a turnover? Last night's would've been a TD too. Then on the VERY NEXT PLAY, they get touchy on Lavar in the nuetral zone. The late hit call on the Jets first drive was a bit touchy too. Then, on one of the Jets returns, there was a blatant holding call and two flag went out. Instead of off-setting penalties, all they call is a face mask against the Skins.

I just want to make sure the refs get their proper ribbing even though we won.

I'm with you. Even neutral people watching the game were getting on the refs.

I'm with you too and it was funny watching the sidelines, dude couldn't get the red flag out fast enough. I knew it was challengeable though. Sorry, meant not challengeable.

There are bad calls and missed calls in every game. Last night was pretty well officiated. The play was dead by the time Vinny had fumbled, it was a proper call. That late hit in the first qtr was the proper call. Was it a vicious hit? no, but it was definitely late. The refs also missed a few other late hits including the one on Santana Moss' long PR where he was hit out of bounds but no flag came.

By the way, if you have copies of the '96 & '99 Jets-'Skins games go back(or if you remember) and watch b/c those games were decided by horrible officiating. Last night wasn't perfect but it was ok.

The Vinny play should have been a fumble and could've had drastic consequences on the game, but I am not complaining a lot. I think that play would've made the game a lot different if it had gone our way.

Bull shit! Jets=1 penalty for 5 yards....FOR THE GAME!

I can't believe no one has brought up the Conway no call. If that wasn't "taunting", I don't know what would be considered. Remember last year at the beginning of the season? I think our first 3 or 4 games, we were called for taunting.

conway better feel lucky that Lavar didn't snap his tiny arse in half! 1 penalty for 5 yards....yeah, right!

I agree with this.

Die hard fan or not, I can still recognize poor discipline which is the exact reason for the late hit and Lavar's neutral zone infraction.

Vinny did not fumble, but Conway DID taunt.

Oh, one more thing. McGraw should be fined for the helmet to helmet hit even though he knocked himself out.

I dont know about that late hit on iffy because curtis martin was never down(on top of skins players) and they blow the whissle simaltanously(pardon the spelling) as iffy hit him. I know he didnt have to hit him but it dont think it was illegal because its not too far because curtis martin looked like his elbow, knee or anything besides his leg was on the ground just on skins players. That play basically gave them the td.

I haven't reviewed the tape yet(was too tired yesterday) so I didn't really get a chance to see the Conway play you are referring to but as for only 1 penatly on the Jets. That's a little under normal but we have been the least penalized team in the NFL the past 2 years.

I hope so, that was a scary play and hopefully he doesn't do it again.

There were a bunch of non-calls against the 'Skins as well, I saw many potential late hits such as Moss getting hit out of bounds on the long PR and on the deep ball to Moss he was hit by the S well after the ball fell incomplete- that should have been a 15 yarder as well. The refs let the teams play for the most part.

Actually it was Trotter (LB). Bowen (S) jumped up with Moss and then Trotter laid out Moss......

The BIGGEST blown call of the game was Vinny's FUMBLE. It was a fumble that would have been a Skins TD. But because the REF blew it dead that's it, no replay. This is something the NFL said they wouldn't do........

Also Bruce Smith sould not have been credited with a half sack, again it wa fumbled before he toched Vinny. I want to see him get the record, but right is right.

Isn't that right Jesse Armstead???

What's even worse than the refs was some Jets fans on gangreen.com complaining that the Skins were the ones who were getting the calls. Guess they didn't feel that the Jets should have even had that ONE penalty called on them.

I dont feel the late hit by Iffy was a good call either. I guess it could have gone either way... but Iffy was already in motion... along with the fact that Curtis was still rolling off the pile.

This brings up a great debate... about the Refs and the NFL cracking down too hard on these sorts of things. They said this year they are going to crack down on taunting... and I ask... WHAT TAUNTING?

I thought they already squashed that classic part of the game years ago.

The refs have not been consistent with the in the grasp call and that's what bothers me.

No shock that a fan of a team that gets one penalty call for 5 yards, a gift play called dead and some touchy calls against the opponent would think the game was reffed well.

All that matters is we won the game, hopefully tthe refs looked at the game and could see some of the mistakes. the Vinny "fumble", by rule, was a sack, for he was in the grasp.

RedskinsDave

That rule no longer exists.

Technically the rule still exits, This is from the 2003 NFL Diguest of Rules:

"5. Officials are to blow the play dead as soon as the quarterback is clearly in the grasp and control of any tackler, and his safety is in jeopardy."

HOWEVER, a few years back, officals were to stop calling it so quickly (so QBs like Young and Elway, etc could use there talents to make plays like a RB). They are to call down IF the QB is "in the grasp' of a defender AND another defender is clearly about to finish the tackle.

This is of coarse one of those judgment calls

In Vinny's case, I thaought that he fumbled before he was "clearly in the grasp and control of any tackler, and his safety is in jeopardy."

Of coarse I wear "Burgundy and Gold" sunglasses
