Hi All!
Spence's wife here! Long time, no post. I am sure that I no longer even rank as a Papoose on this site. I'm usually here in spirit, though, as I get all the latest on the Redskins' biggest fans from my hubby.
I was encouraged by Spence to share some neat info for all you movie buffs out there. I work near Capitol Hill at a location called Eastern Market (for the non locals reading this). I was taking a walk near the Market on 7th Street and I noticed there were police cars blocking the area. Turns out Ridley Scott is in town filming 'Body of Lies', based on the novel by David Ignatius! I joined the crowd of residents and business folk to gawk at the spectacle. They were filming a huge crowd of extras dressed in heavy winter garb--I'm talking huge winter coats, hats, gloves etc. Meanwhile, the temp was in the 90s yesterday! It was supposed to be a winter scene at a Dutch market. They changed the signs on the restaurants and businesses so that they would be in Dutch. They changed the license plates on all of the cars in the area. There were film crews on the roof and P.A.s everywhere. Huge tents were set up for the actors. I was able to get pretty close. On the side street they had prop cars that looked like they had been in a wreck or a fire. I could hear the director (I hoped it was Scott, he had a British accent)prep the extras for the scene by telling them to imagine a large explosion. Then it was Action!, and they all ducked at once. The buzz in the crowd was that they were actually going to blow something up for the scene. Sweet! I had never been on a set and now I was going to watch something being blown up. Very cool. They announced to everyone that they would wait for a helicopter to fly overhead and that would be the cue for the explosion. A motorcycle and Towncar were set up for the scene.Sure enough, the helicopter flew in and KABLOOOOOEY! Fire and smoke everywhere (in a controlled environment, of course. Fire and EMS services where there) I had a ball. Only bummer was that my cell phone does not take great pictures, so I can only offer you my ramblings for a description. Don't know how long they will be in my neighborhood but you can be sure I'll find out. As for Russell and Leo: alas, they were not on set yesterday. You just know I'll be stalking the set in the chance they may be there one day! Another tidbit is that the film may be called 'Penetration'. Not a title I would personally go with, but that's Hollywood for ya.
Well, I feel like a roving reporter. Hope it was interesting for someone!
Have a great season and I look forward to facing off when the Giants come to town!
PS--If you haven't read The World's Most Prestigious Power Poll, what are you waiting for?! Later dudes and dudettes!!:banger:

So you're still a Giants fan? lol

Sounds like a lot of fun. With the way traffic is in DC, this must have been murder for motorists.

Good to hear from ya...:)

That's awesome. It's always fun to see stuff like that. Of course it doesn't top the time I saw Judge Reinhold making some made-for-tv deal but, really, what would?

Tom and I agree that Long Island Giants fans are the best!

Great story...and it sure beats my story of being close to a movie set.

I got a glimpse of them filming a car scene on GW parkway for Harrison Ford's Random Hearts. (total flop of a film)

Russell Crowe and Leo, huh. Guess you'll know they're onset by the squeals of a thousand women. ;)

That's a great story. Thanks for the eyewitness report. I think I'd rather see the pyrotechnics than the stars.

I watched them film a scene on the parade grounds at Fort Myer for the movie Gardens of Stone. I actually saw Francis Ford Coppola sitting in his director's chair with a bunch of assistants around him. Cool.

It's all downhill from there. A day on the set is the definition of hurry-up-and-wait. The vast majority is comprised of technical stuff, setting up the camera, blocking the shots and lighting. "Action!" and "Rolling" consist of mere moments. Nobody believes how boring a set can be. Then again, it's punctuated by magic. Like life...

There was a tidbit about this in the Post about a week or two back. I don't get into D.C. much anymore, so I probably won't get a chance to see the commotion. Cool story though! Now you can say you were there!

Just a general comment here. In a well done film, like Clint Eastwood's "In the Line of Fire," Washington, D.C. looks beautiful on screen. The locale almost becomes a character in the movie. I hope this new movie with Crowe and DiCaprio showcases the city. The town sure is one of a kind.

They are still shooting, but nothing happened yesterday, AdieTee told me last night. Apparently, they're going to be around for another month, so she'll have more to post before long.

Fantastic story!!! Now I will have to see the movie.

Your story is so much better then the time we watched Ben Affleck film Forces of Nature down in Savannah. Although this was the same trip where my daughter decided to go to SCAD and she did end up being a film major there, so I guess it was a great story for her!

Can't wait to see how they pulled winter off when all of the trees are still green and full in DC! That kinda thing makes me crazy in movies...

Hey...don't be a stranger! At least post when we play the Giants ok?

Great story. Maybe if you hang around again, they can use you as an extra.

A friend of mine told me her stepson was used in a prominent non-speaking role in a new Kevin Bacon movie that was shooting in my town over the summer. They just picked him out of the crowd.

I am told it was conisdered a prominent extra part because he will be very evident in the scene and had to sign waivers and the like. I think there may have been some minimal pay, but they fed him, he was able to hang around the trailers and he got to meet all the actors.

That's because I am very curvy for a Mom

But I do have to say, when I got my shirt, tailored for a girl's figure...I guess they really meant "Girl", because even a Large is too short for my tall self....

There won't be any whale-tail sightings at the game, will there? Not that that's a bad thing...

Um, I have a question:

If they wanted to film a Dutch market, why the hell didn't they do the filming in the Netherlands?

Have you seen the dollar/euro exchange rate lately?

Cost determines most production decisions. Moving an entire production to the Netherlands would be prohibitive to say the least.

Same reason half of all NY scenes are shot in Canada.
