I am hoping for but I doubt it. Play-action to Portis deep to Lloyd, TD.
Realistic - stretch play to Portis
What's your guess for the first play of the game?

Portis up the middle for a 1 yard gain. Dont get me wrong, Portis will have a fine day, but that will be our first play.

I think we throw first. We have shown that we are not afraid to let Campbell wing it to start the game. While I don't expect a bomb to Lloyd, I would like to see an intermediate pass to Moss or Cooley. It sends a message to Campbell that we have complete faith in him.

Fullback lead dive. and for the bonus points I will predict left side, right up Kendell's back.

it was truly distressing to me to see them run it again this preseason...
and considering that moss torched will allen with it when allen was with the giants, i expect to see it again tomorrow..... which makes me think that faking it, and having moss stop and then go long, should be good for at least one TD tomorrow

I am a big fan of opening the game up with Play action Bombs. I was going to say P.A. to Moss, but I'll take Lloyd.

I wouldnt be suprised to see them fake it. I remember last year they did. They pumpfaked to moss then turned the other direction and threw it to cooley for the screen pass.

I want the first play to be the one we did against tampa a couple of years back. That was the happiest I had been in a while.

3 WR set....w/ Jason throwing a deep post to Lloyd! This time Lloyd will catch the ball and score, then run up to Jason and give him the ball...as a sign of apology for dropping his first deep throw! :)

i can predict the first offensive series: first two downs will be runs up the middle by portis. he will gain maybe 2 yards total. third down will be a pass that will be 1 yard short of a first down. punt.
the redskins open every game this way.

 except for all the games they didn't start this way and the Skins opened last year with a 23 yard pass to Moss.

I agree with everyone who said Bubble screen, I've never in my life been sick of one play like that one, maybe Brunell ruined it for me doing it so much last season but this play is my sneaking suspicion.
But I'll go Flea Flicker, Portis will get it pitch it back to JC up top to Moss for a 50 yard gain.
But he'll spin the ball once he gets up and cost us some penalty yardage.

The first poster that responded (ahkhorus?) was right--sometimes we attempt to come out of the blocks with something different. However, your point is well-taken; we pay for being SOOO predictable in recent history. Being the masters of 3-and-out is not merely a function of execution and MBs limitations.
I think that we have the personnel to put defenses on their heels now. The Skins defense will be better from the first snap this season. The pressure is on Saunders to use Campbell and an intermediate passing game, and I think we'll rise to the challenge sooner or later this season.
That said, and cynic that I am, we'll probably see the stupid WR (bubble?) screen, or a drill up the middle for minimal gain.

In my return to HR after a summer long hiatus, I would like to pick up where I left off and boldly say that we will launch the bomb to Santana Moss as the lone reciever after a play action to Portis. And we will score.

Is it just me, or was that throw to Moss in preseason actually a lateral. If the ball bounces lose, it is free. By the way, if it were a lateral, would that be counted in the passing or running stats?

Reverse with Randle El, who throws deep to Moss or Lloyd for a TD!
Then, we run for the next 80 plays and win 7-6. Jason Campbell will be the first NFL QB to have a zero rating and win the game.

Chas I think that you are a little off on this one, although we have our fair share of 3 and outs, I think that our beginning drive usually consist of a lot of deep passes.
We may see ARE or Moss score really early in the game.

I think we will try to establish the run game first...handoff to number 26 for 6 yards. Up the gut to the right between Casey and Randy setting up play action on second and short.

I hate when we run trick plays in the first series. Though it seems like that's the ONLY time we do it. Remeber when Dallas (maybe Philly?) got us with a flea flicker and we used it the first play against them the next game and they were ready for it? God Joe Gibbs is predictable. Im so glad he gave the reigns to Al Saunders.
First play--40 Gut to Portis for 8 yards.

given that the offensive has not played together as a unit during preseason, it is almost a certainly that the initial set of downs will be conservative. usually this mean hand the ball to portis and let him run up the middle. further, given the weak pass protection in the preseason, i dont expect to see any plays that are going to take a long time to develop like a deep pass or a trick play.

handoff to sellers who plants zach thomas on the ground en route to a 54 yard TD scamper...
ok, maybe 4 yard scamper, but i still think he plants thomas.
but i don't like predicting so who knows.

Play-action fake with a long pass to Moss. If it is complete, we will get a score on that first drive. If it's not complete, a message will have been sent and we will still end up with a score on the first drive.

Zone stretch, pitch left to Portis, Thomas pulling, Sellers blocking down.
I will add that, if Saunders will actually commit to the run, as good as Holliday, Taylor, Thomas et al. are, they are old and not particularly big. If we run them around by controlling the clock and hammering them, they will drop sometime in the 3rd Quarter.
