fantastic article, and shows what the glory days really took. I hope our guys find that heart, that determination, because anything less will not be tolerated by the players that help make this proud franchise

Great read and it's awesome to hear how he still cares about the franchise. I watched the Super Bowl tape of the '91 Skins and quickly learned about the class this guy really has. We're all behind you Jason.

Bear Bryant said that everyone wants to win but not everyone wants to pay the price. For me, that has been the hardest thing about the last 15 years of futility - watching some of those teams not go all out to win. It came as quite a shock after the George Allen through Gibbs I years. Those were all teams that clawed and bit, figuratively speaking, to win.
Between the Jack Kent Cook estate hose-up and the Norv "I Hate You and Hope You Die Of A Filthy, Esoteric STD" Turner, Marty "I am in control here" Schottenheimer, and The Ol' Ball Coach it has been slapstick adventure all the way to hell.
If some of those greats can get some idea of the kind of dedication and sacrifice it takes to build a team that cares about each other and competes fervently to win every Sunday to rub off on our team I would be ecstatic. From Charles Mann's gnarled hands to Riggo hanging in traction three days after a game, no one had to wonder if they were willing to sacrifice for the team. Maybe Gibbs can bottle the lightning again. Campbell seems to be a good start.

I remember when Mann was drafted out of UNR he was described by one magazine pundent as having one of those "In between builds" and it was wondered how the Redskins would use him.
A couple of years later he was picking up a Cardnals tackle by the throat and tossing the poor slob to one side as he rushed Lomax for yet another pressure or sack. Honestly I can't remember what the result was because I was so blown away by the display of raw strength.
The man was something else, and described at his height as the 'second best defensive linemen in the NFL, just behind Reggie White. Not bad company.

Charles Mann was exciting to watch play and shows what a class act he was, and still is today. He was my first avatar when I joined hR.

Amen!
One could even make an argument that this team has more talent than those Super Bowl teams (except the '91 team which I still think is on of the GOAT) and what they are lacking is something to bring it all together.

i think there was an overall lack of talent on defense last year.. the infusion of younger players plus smoot, fletcher and macklin should help a lot

oh yeah. reading what he was telling campbell and his folks, it makes me want to go out and hit somebody. he's damn right that there's a mystique to being a skins player that is gone. partially free agency's fault, partially the fault of who we've brought in to become a member of our illustrious team.

I sincerely hope that the Campbell family, especially Jason's mother, got a look at a QB's hands. Otherwise she will worry.

Nice GOAT reference...and I agree on all counts.
