1. Portis (98 yards, 1 TD). Even though he didn't rack up huge yards I think he proved he can still be a solid, dependable runner

2. Fletcher and McIntosh

Pretty good. He didn't get his name mentioned much on TV. Which is both, good and bad thing. lol

Sean Suisham gets my game ball. I had confidence with his kicking all day and now it is cemented. We have our kicker and it feels great. Way to go Sean.

Honorable mention to Jason Campbell who played flawlessly in my book. He had a few off-target passes and he completely didn't see a defender on an INT, but he was electrifying and showed us all that there is only one place to go, UP!

Gotta go with ARE, Portis and JC as well, but # 1 is Stephon Heyer, an undrafted rookie in his 1st game at a position never played (Right Tackle) and looked absolutely like he belonged at the spot. Great job! Now THAT is a Redskin!

1. Has to be the line against the number four defense.

2. The crowd seemed really loud on tv. My cousin called me from the game, at half time. His voice was hoarse like it's supposed to be. I think the team has a lot to build off of.

Stephon Heyer.

He did a very good job when he was pressed into duty. I think he really has a future as a solid T but i would still be more comfortable with wade there for now.

Heyer for stepping in against Jason Taylor, Campbell for not shutting down after those interceptions, Cooley for saving our OT drive, Portis for carrying us in OT, Sellers for refusing to go down, Suisham for being a clutch kicker, and Randle El for being Campbell's go-to guy and having a huge game.

Yes, the defense was great stuffing the run, I was very happy to see that. I also was impressed the way Rocky played, but I wanted to see more consistency from Smoot and Carlos.

Certainly Portis and ARE deserve it. However, JC was very shaky - he was quite inaccurate on a number of throws.

JC could have easily shut down after the ints, but his poise continues to impress me. We have to have patience with him, because he is still going to have his ups and downs.

1.) Randle El - If he can play like this consistently it will be scary.

2.) Heyer - The offensive line had a really nice day. They were working out there. When JJ went down early, Heyer stepped in and they didnt miss a beat, in fact they seemed to even get better.

3.) Fletcher- McIntosh had a really nice day so I almost threw him in here, but I couldn't help but notice how well the defensive calls were going. Fletcher has our D playing the way we all expect them too.

4.) Campbell - How about we give the kid some props, he managed the game very well, had some real flashes of brilliance with his arm and his feet, and stayed calm throughout even after the Int's. He's growing and maturing on the fly and I for one am optimistic and excited everytime he steps onto the field.

I agree with all you say about JC, except overall he did not have a good game today. Without the deflection reception, his QB rating would no doubt have been less than 50. However, he clearly has great potential, and this was the first game of the season. I look for much better days as the season goes on.

Portis and Samuels on offense, McCintosh and Springs on defense (Did they even throw to him?)

On that note, I think we should trade Portis. He's injury prone, soft and we have Betts.

Redskins strength and conditioning program. Players all said in postgame that they were in way better condition than the Fins at overtime.

#1: Stephon Heyer -- never played right tackle? Being thrown into the game? No problem. Not only that, but they run behind him for big gains. Nothing short of incredible.

#2: Swishy. Money.

#3: ARE: Hustle award and inspirational leader. A man to have on your team in a war.

#4: Portis. What he does away from the ball is just as important as what he does with it. Our running attack is far more versatile with him.

Play of the game: aside from the obvious field goal, Ladell knocking Chris Samuels on his butt. Samuels joked in postgame that he thinks they should move Ladell to safety.

Gritty teams find ways to win close games. We've got fighters. Great win!

1. game ball - randell El showed/earned he could play the #2 wr

2. game ball- Rocky Mac he was every where 9+ tackles 1 ff

3. game ball-Suisham game winner in ot

notables......heyer was called on and did a very good. he might have had some some help, but the kid really showed why he made this roster.

Also I think gibbs did the right thing in kicking that field goal. I know it would have been nice to drive the ball a little closer. I just think he felt one penalty and we would be out of rage. In OT i think this is the right move.

What was his QB rating??? I seem to remember that Campbell tends to be shaky in his first start in a new situation (shaky in the preseaon against the titans) but then gets better and better.

Anyways, I don't think the last INT was his fault, Lloyd just didn't fight hard enough. And I was a very staunch Lloyd supporter

Tell that to Thomas. He must still be picking little pieces of 26's facemask out of his teeth. Portis played well and ran hard. The guy even took out D-linemen on passing plays and took a nasty shot at 99 just for the hell of it. I love the guy, and as much promis as Betts has Portis is the man for this offense.

Here are my game observations.

1. Jason Cambell played well. The receivers didn't help him on the two interceptions and Moss dropped a couple passes. The downfield passing is a breath of fresh air. And he made a 17 yard gain running in what would have been a Jason Taylor sack had Brunell been in the game.

2. Bradon Lloyd stinks. He should have at least prevented the interception. A good NFL receiver would make that play a touchdown instead of an INT.

3. Stephon Heyer played really well

4. Suisam has been " money" on his field goals

5. Portis looks like he's OK. I liked the two headed monster of Betts and Portis

6. Randel EL looks great

Top 5 Nominees

1. ARE= the whole Redskins passing game today... period. He was clutch all day long, he even had that acrobatic attempt on a pass that was well behind him, nearly grabbing that too.

2. Suisham= Clutch... Joe just sent him out there and said son get err done right now...and he did. Kickoffs were pretty decent, field goals were true, nice job from our "new" kicker, looks like he can stay awhile.

3.Stephon Heyer= Probably much better suited for RT at this level anyway, he did an excellent job after Jon went down. Help or no help fromt the TE, he held his own. With both he an Wade available the best man should get the start. Wade was solid in that role last season despite being inactive today and Jon being out indefinately will surely change that.

4. Portis/Betts= This dynamic duo got the job done. Betts looked good early and often but the Fins D was stingy, he helped balanced the run game though. Portis had a slow start but kicked it into gear in the 2nd half. Suprisingly both, not just CP, protected well when blocking on pass plays.

5. Kendall= The guys been here what 2 weeks? He wears number 66 just like some overpriced guy from Texas I knew. And folks IMHO we didnt miss a beat, he's a legit LG and was an excellent acquisition , even moreso now that Jons out. Pass Blocking, Run Blocking he looked solid, thanks Pete.

Samuels and McIntosh get my game balls. To play the way Chris did (coming off an injury and going head-to-head with Jason Taylor) was really great to see. McIntosh was all over the place defensively. Flying to the ball, forcing a fumble, and showing good coverage skills.

My game balls:

Portis. I missed this guy. So much talk about him missing all preseason and what kind of shape is he in. 2 yards away from 100 yd game. Great job today.

Heyer. To step in for Jansen and perform well against one of the better defenses in the league. Good job for an undrafted rookie. Better considering they were going against Jason Taylor and gang.

Absolutely. I came back in to post a note about not hearing Kendall's name all day and how great that was. The ability to run both left and right with Kendall and Heyer in the lineup was incredible.

Jason Campbell - Stretching the field and making the Dolphins defend the entire field. Haven't seen that in Redskins Park in years.

Stephen Heyer - really stepped up when called on. I think like others that his future is at right tackle instead of left tackle.

Rocky McIntosh - He was everywhere reminded me of a young Lavar Arrington. But for allot less money.

ARE - If he plays like this the offense is in business. Even though the offense didn't look that great today we were going up against a really good defense and Moss is going to be open allot more starting next week now that teams see we have another receiver. Take note Lloyd. Also ARE was one move outside instead of inside from taking a punt to the house.

Alternate - Andre Carter one sack and nearly another one. He was almost single handed in providing the pressure to the qb.

Exactly, we got everything we wanted to get out of this game. Show the league we got a legit #2 (ARE) and show them an excellent running game. It's going to be difficult because now teams just can't roll all the coverage to Moss and Cooley. Can't bring 8 in the box because we had 3 plays (if I remember correctly) of 20+ yards....

Slobberknocker
09-09-2007, 07:19 PM
With Portis/Betts on track, ARE as a legit threat, all it will take is Moss + Usual Hands and Cooley rumbling over the middle to crack this thing wide open.

We didn't click on all cylinders and still rumbled to 400 yards/150 + on the ground.

I'll take it.
