I missed the first quarter, but I didn't see him at all except for one 1st down catch, and replays of the interception. I honestly couldn't tell you if he was on the field the whole game. Anyone know why he didn't see any action? Did we keep him back blocking? Was he just covered the whole time?

A lot of the time he was helping out on Jason Taylor's side. As for when he was out in routes...I'm not sure how much of that was Campbell not looking for him and how much was Miami trying to take him out of the game. Probably a little of both. They definitely had Cooley figured out on the pattern that got picked. We could clearly see the safety closing in before the ball was thrown from our vantage point in the upper deck.

He mostly stayed back to block. I didn't notice many receiving plays for him, but there was a wide open one Campbell totally overlooked. Give it time.

He kept the OT drive going on a crucial third down.

Cooley had a A+ game IMO. I'd need to see the film to be sure, but I saw a couple plays where he FLAT OUT busted Jason Taylor ONE ON ONE! Throw the fantasy BS out the window and appreciate what Cooley did for this team today. He Taylor out of the play (again ONE ON ONE) on Portis TD play, and had a key catch to extend the OT drive. He was easily a candidate for MVP (again without the luxury of me having reviewed film).

he had a lot of trouble with joey porter.. porter was around JC nearly every time cooley was called upon to block him.. on the other hand, cooley really nailed him in OT on one of portis' runs

that was my favorite play of the game.. they anticipated the corner blitz from will allen on third down and it kept the drive alive. the miami run defense really sagged after that play..

Mayeb, I tend to watcdh the ball and don't appreciate blocking without film. He hit Jason Taylor one so hard that Taylor shook his head and had hands on his knees going back to the huddle.

very true. i was wondering when he was going to get the ball in his hands, but he did spent lots of time blocking and did well doing it. his 3rd down catch was extremely clutch.

i didnt see who did that to him...

i know he was jawing at samuels any chance he got and drew a penalty on that int

overall, he wasnt a fearsome presence for the fins, and JC got around him on that scramble and made him look bad on that play as well. taylor has fine speed but he wasnt close to catching up with JC

i think with jansen going down and the dolphins aggresive defensive front, that we had to change cooleys game plan and keep him in to help block mostly. but he did come through with one catch for a huge first down. he also had a battle going on with joey porter. the question is with jon jansen out, does heyer start next week at right tackle where they say hes never played until today? or does wade providing his shoulder is healthy enough? i imagine wade wont be inactive next week. and how much will cooley be asked to stay in and block?

Oh, Cooley was there. He had a fantastic blocking effort today, and it showed in the running game. Having him helping out the OLine helped us win this game. You know he'll be part of the passing game this year, he seems to be Campbells favorite target, but he was needed against this Dolphins front seven. Especially with Jansen going down.

It was honestly the hottest football game I ever remember so I might have been seeing things (Cooley looks like Samuels when your brain is fried), but II really think they came out and planned for #47 to bust some heads.... And I am fairly certain that Cooley was the one whoe shook up JT.

Great game plan to frustrate him and get him out of his pattern. He never knew where the next bloick would come from.

Where was Cooley?

That's an easy one, but only if you were actually watching the game. Cooley was throwing sick blocks right and left, helping Portis collect nearly 100 yds rushing.

Watch the game, folks.

Cooley did do a great job blocking. Also, I loved the formation where he made the catch on the first down. I also think the screen they were trying to set up when JC purposely threw the ball to the ground was intended for Cooley, but I'm not positive of that.

That third down catch was huge. Cooley definitely did his part today.

I saw that, but did anyone see Sellers absolutely truck Zach Thomas? It was sometime in the first half.

Sellers was having fun out there today. Its great when we get him involved.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that saw that. Porter really made this a tough day for Cooley.

Porter makes it a tough day for anyone he's up against.

Cooley got mauled today.....Porter destroyed him and blew up two sweep plays that could have gone for good yardage. Now I see why we were in such need for a run blocking TE. That is one aspect of Cooley's game that has to get better.

Cooley was being covered over and under on his routes. They (Dolphins) didn't want him involved in the passing game. Enter El who had a monster game and made up for Cooley not being involved. He keeps having games like that and it'll open things up for Moss and Cooley.

Exactly. Cooley mentioned this on Comcast after the game. He said that they constantly brought in a safety to help double team him, but that opened up the deep field for man-to-man coverage for ARE.

Cooley doesn't need 70 yards and a TD every game to be productive...

Agree. We can put too much emphasis on stats. But it is the little things like eliminating your man that win games. We love Portis of the 2nd half and OT and really like Heyer stepping in, but a lot of that was made possible by Cooley.

I sure was wrong on my pre-game prediction that he was gonna be huge in the passing game today catching alot of dumps from Campbell. I blame Budweiser, swealtering heat, and that old lady in the short shorts by the port-o-john for retina damage. :D

Ah you are so very wrong in every aspect of this statement my friend.
With 400 yards of offense and 191 yards on the ground is not to shabby at all. When Jansen went down and for the rest of the 1st half the offense was just horrible (just 95 total yards at the half). They made the adjustments at half time to get the offense going.Cooleys and pucillos blocking sure helped out yesterday.I heard them call Pucillos # as being eligable receiver on about 4 or 5 plays through out the game. The blocking was defenatly good down the strech when it really mattered the most.:Peace:

Porter was too much for Cooley to handle, you are correct. Cooley seems to do better on D lineman who are closer to him when the play starts. He doesn't seem to block to well in space, or maybe it was just being matched up on a premier LB in this league like Porter.

I think after the INT on the first play, JC figured out (and correctly) that the Phins would keep a safety on top of Cooley and Moss all day long and didn't expect Randle El to come through like he did. ARE needs to keep having days like that to get the safety's off of Cooley. Moss was open more often, he just needs to catch what is thrown to him.

One question I would like to ask, does anyone think Cooley should have ran that route flatter at the end to cut in front of the safety?

Let me start by saying i love Cooley. That said he got owned by Porter all game. Lets not throw too much praise on him. He could have played better. We did get the W and it was game 1. I expect for the team to not be up to speed, But to say he played excellent is wishful thinking.

I am not really worried about us not finding Cooley that much. I was so happy that when we needed a catch on third and long in OT, we found him and he was the only guy that ball was going to. I love that when we need someone to make a play he is there for us. Aside from the interception I don't remember the ball going his direction.

When you never see a player like Cooley ( or Moss) you know one thing.. GOOD D! They were covered all day long. I'm proud of our Skins considering... and I won't be surprised if thrDolphins D actually really does something great this year.

My lawd You guys are unbelievable.....Cooley's going against a probowl LB and we expect him to be 100% against a guy the caliber of Joey Porter.

In my opinion I didn't here Joeys name being called that much during the game. And if that's true then, Cooley or whoever was blocking him did better than I thought.....

They had a top rated pass rush. Cooley's does have to wrk on his blocking but remember that's not really why he was brought in here...he lead the NCAA in pass catching not blocking.....

Mike said it best earlier...he and moss were being blanketed...thus opening up things for El and the run game....
