I heard a rumor that the Redskins/Jets game was to be shown soon as an ESPN Instant Classic. Don't know if it is true or not. Has anyone else heard this????

I doubt it. The game was close but the quality wasn't up to classic standards.

If anybody saw the Mia/Fla game tonight, I think that would qualify. I know it's not Redskin related, but it's topic related.

Haven't heard about Jets/Skins, but I would agree on Florida/Miami.

That would be impossible as they don't show classic NFL games, they only show highlights of the games.

I hated that FLA-Miami game! FLA got me thinking that they would beat those punks! They gave up a 16 point lead.

Not a fan of either team, but from a "great comeback" perspective that game was great to watch.

Miami seems to be playing at a level somewhere above college football and just below the NFL. They have so much more talent than any other program right now, it takes a super human effort (i.e. Ohio State in the bowl game last year) to even come close to beating them.

I emailed the NFL.com about there new NFL Network that premeres in Nov. and asked them if they work have games in their original broadcast form, here was the responce I got:
Dear Steve
Thank you for taking the time to write us. We are creating this network as a service for our fans and as such recognize the desire of many people who want to see old games as they were originally aired. Because of rights issues with announcers, networks, and others, it's not as easy as pulling out a tape and putting it on the air. We are investigating what we can and can't do regarding "old games" and hope to be able to provide you with what you are looking for if it's possible. You will be happy to know that we are searching through the 100-million feet of film in the NFL Films library to uncover extensive footage from the NFL past. This will be fresh, never or rarely seen before footage that we're certain will be of interest. Thank you again for your comments.
Sincerely,
NFL Network

Subject: Re braodcast GAMEs!!!
I love ESPN Classic..................BUT they don't air the original broadcasts of NFL Classic games and Superbowls (just highlights) like they do of just about every other sport imaginable. Will NFL Network? I hope so.........

Yes, very interesting. The NFL network is associated with the Direct TV package only, right? Still haven't switched over. Still enjoy screaming for the Skins at sportsbars and annoying Browns and Stillers fans.

MAN, I WISH THAT ESPN CLASSIC WOULD SHOW CLASSIC GAMES. I would trade in all of my EX-GIRLFRIENDS for a re-run of my favorite Redskins game of all time; the NFL Championship game in the early '80's when the Redskins beat the Cowboys (and Dexter Manley knocked out Danny White) and the entire RFK stadium (lower lever) was rocking soooo hard that it looked like it was going to implode.
Hmmm. come to think of it..................I would trade in most of my ex-girlfriends for FREE!!!!!!

According to NFL.com, cable companys CAN carry it too:
"2. Call your local cable or satellite operator! Currently NFL Network is available to all subscribers of DIRECTV's basic package, but if you aren't a DIRECTV subscriber, we are still able to send you our signal. The cable or satellite operator you subscribe to just needs to flip the switch."
Sounds like they think (or know) some cable co might hold a grudge over the DTV deal.

skinswin'emall: Thanks for the info! I had read a while back that they were going to try to start showing old games and hopefully they can. A question I have is why is it so difficult for the NFL when it's not difficult for other sports?

I wonder the same thing myself. I have seen them put other sports on within days of the game. They call them 'instant classics' but they can't EVER do NFL games?? Not even on the NFL Network. That sounds whacked!
There are so many NFL games in the past that I would love to see rebroadcast in there Original forum. It give you a feel for it, just as it unfolded. The Dalls palyoff game is a great example. there is also a Monday night game vs the Cowpies that my dad taped but fell asleep at half time. The Skins were getting killed and came back to win. I don't recall the year but I would love to see it again. along with many others.
