Portis took limited work but is expected to play
It's up to Moss when he returns
Lloyd got kicked in the shins (anyone else wish they had this opportunity) and missed a part of practice
Sean Taylor missed part of practice with a bruised knee but is expected to play Sunday
Fred Smoot was full-go in practice
No words on Griffin (wasn't there some word he was nicked).

Apparently after getting kicked in the shins. In related news, I saw a 7 year old get kicked in the shins and return to practice...

Not real happy with the Sean Taylor news he has played outstanding so far this season would be a blow if he's not ready to put the fear of god in those Lions wr's.
Portis I'm starting to get the feeling just wants outta practice. May still be alittle sore from no camp. Very encouraged by the Portis news.
Moss we need badly. I get the feeling Keenan is gonna play if Moss can't go. He runs great routes would be nice to see someone other than Moss get open with room underneath.
Griffin I'm starting to get the feeling isn't as vital as I once thought. We need him in there but Montgomery and Gholoston may be able to hold things down if he can't go. Its not a necessity for him to play below his normal level injured anymore.

i still think that griffin is really important to the defense.. nobody is as disruptive as he is, if he is well..

Nothing really shocking to me. Portis is always hurt, Moss is always hurt, and Griffin is always hurt. Kudos to those guys for playing through the pain like true warriors, but come on!

As for Moss, that is the concern but maybe we'll see him in a limited role on Sunday.

Yeah he makes things happen when healthy problem seems to be he plays hurt so often we don't get the best out of him, maybe he needs to get as healthy as he can and come back swinging. I thought we were dead in previous years when he couldn't play now I think we'll be okay.
Good things happen I guess when you develop draft picks. Good job by the coaching staff.

For this very reason, it would be irresponsible for this team to enter next season with these three as three of our most important players.

Could not agree more. Talent that is off and on available destroys continuity. Without continuity we are an also-ran.

Per JLa:
Portis Says He Is Playing/Moss Not Looking Good
That pretty much says it all.
Lloyd sat out practice with a bruised shin, leading to lots of raised eyebrows. This thing with him won't end well, but we already knew that, right?
Given how the season has gone I could see him perhaps being in no hurry to get back on the practice field, and several of his teammtes believe that to be the case.
Thrash will start for Moss - he says the coaches told him to be ready to play the Z Sunday if Moss can't go - and McCardell and Caldwell expect to be active.
Looks like Moss is out but we got Portis in.... and I'm not sure how I feel about Thrash playing the Z (why can't ARE)? And if McCardell can get a start after one week, what took Caldwell so long to get ready?
And WTF, a SHIN INJURY is keeping Lloyd out?!?!?!? I hope this can be used against him and we can recover some of our money back from him...

as he says, this is not going to end well for lloyd... my guess is that before it is all over, we have some kind of legal goings on .. the front office can be vindictive and they will do more than just keep him inactive IMHO
but lloyd has brought this on himself

Moss being hurt just makes me want to cry.... not just for us, but for him. I really want him to have a stand out year - he deserves it. Now all we need is for JC to actually get the ball to him....

Its gonna be good game man. A shootout back and forth I expect. Maybe its b/c all the games Ive seen Moss at I think I would rather see this Detroit passing game one time.
I think the last time I saw the Lions play here I was hoping Barry Sanders would run all over us but we held him to only 27 yards or something.

Well...so much for my idea of wearing my Moss probowl jersey this weekend.:banghead:
We lost to NY when I wore Landry....so I'll have to switch to Cooley for this week. If we end up losing this one I may have to switch to the old retro #21 Smoot. After that, I may have to buy a new jersey...;)

Thrash as the replacement for Moss. No speed so different routes. JC is comfortable with Moss and Cooley, and getting comfortable with ARE. Double ARE and single Thrash who is now too slow to gain separation. Apply enough pressure to keep Cooley in to block. It could be a long day.

Thrash has not lost THAT much of a step..he is still a threat and if the ball hits his hands hes pulling it in 98% of the time..
Plus with Caldwell and McCardell in slots, we have a receiving squad of nice hands..

We need to see lots of 3 receivers sets to bring guys outta the box. Play action and draws are another must. We gotta keep the defense guessing. If we can do this, Thrash can get the separation.

On the locker room video on Redskins.com, Moss says he feels great. he said it was the coaches decision to the media. He said he doesn't want to be on the sidelines, so hopefully he'll be in there.

Didn't Gibbs say it is up to Moss when he is ready to come back? Is this another Springs? Are the players trying to leave the coaches out to dry?

Thrash subing for Moss makes little sense. His deep routes require speed - he has none so can easily be covered in man, allowing constant doubling of ARE. As far as using the new receivers, the coaches have to be really sure that they have the play/routes down cold, or in a timing offense JC will be throwing to a receiver that isn't there - but in zone maybe a lion is.

thrash has plenty of speed and his route running abilities are very high

half right, anyway.. i think that thrash has lost most of the speed he once had ( and even that wasnt too great).. separation from db's has always been a problem for him. against a zone he can be effective, but against man to man-- no way...

Separation has actually little to do with speed (excepting deep routes), and a lot more to do with route running. A crisp route and well timed throw will beat all but the best CBs 9 times outta 10...
