Rumors in Philly are that Reid will take a front office job to spend more time at home as early as this week!

saw that earlier today on www.theredzone.org
i dont know how reid can handle it any other way than to step down
considering that morningweig is likely to be interim coach (i guess JJ is content to be DC) this has to feel really bad for the fans

Well shally bad things happen to bad fans j/k, I hope Andy can help his sons and stabilize his family. I wish him the best but if the eagles team ends up in the cellar because of it...I won't shed a tear.

i don't know, how crediable is the source?
also, if reid does step down, i don't think it will be during the season. i think he steps down afterwards, and its great news for us, although the means are terriable.

Andy Reid is not coaching the Eagles like he has in the past.
More importantly, he has serious family issues and unlike a good percentage of people, he doesn't have financial burdens.
I say this as a parent, a person and not as a fan of any team.
Take care of your family, Andy. Nothing else matters.

I with you on this. Nothing is as important as your family.
I wish him the best.

I agree, it is nice to see someone put family first if he does this

I couldn't agree more. Although I think Reid is a very flawed in-game coach, I have a ton of respect for the guy and he seems like such a good person. He probably should have taken the year off, but at the same time, his kids are adults and there is only so much you can do sometimes. I am a firm believer in "tough love" and letting your kids pay the price for their actions.
So I guess I'm contradicting myself a bit, but if I were in his position, I'd take time off.
I read somewhere a few weeks back that word had it that Gruden had his eye on Philly if Reid were to step down (or up). He and Ried have the same background so maybe Andy makes a play for him if he was to move to the front office. He would certainly bring a more balanced offense to that team and it would be interesting to see how that would affect McNabb. Perhaps more importantly though is what, if anything, this would mean for Johnson as the DC. I'm guessing he's earned an open ticket to stay as long as he wants at this point, but I wonder if he'd be interested in sticking around under a new coach.

i haver to think that fans in philly are hoping for that outcome, or for coach "chin" to come riding in..

I don't see Cowher going there nor do I think the Eagles would look in his direction. Chucky makes the most sense.
On another note, who thinks McNabb gets traded to Chicago in the offseason?

If Cowher becomes available I have to wonder if Lurie would even be willing to pony up the $$$'s to land him in light of the long line of suitors he'd attract. I would think not and would have to wonder if Cowher would even want to work for an(other) owner with a penchant for retaining large swaths of cap space.

I agree. Philly probably can't afford Cowher...plus I don't see Bill coaching "the other" Pennsylvania team. He still has a soft spot for the fans in the Western part of the state. Great point about the thrifty owners. If Cowher wants carte blanche, he should look no further than DC. :D
Rich~ I could totally see McNabb going back home to Chicago next year. Great call. Seems to me that the Eagles are really excited about playing Kolb anyway, and McNabbs' knee is going to be a possible concern for the rest of his career...

I have a lot of respect for Reid. More now after reading this. You put your family first. Everything else falls into place. This being said, this makes the Eagles more dangerous. Reid was calling the plays, and with that ungodly 70-30 pass to run ratio. It makes Westbrook that much more potent. Imagine if Westbrook got 20-30 carries a game.

I agree that steping down now would trash the season, and no one as competetive as Reid wants that to be his legacy. I can't imagine the feelings of having to choose between his biological family and his football family given the closeness involved with an NFL team. I am sure that he considered steping down in the month he took off, and that would have been the time to do it. IMO he committed then, and won't change until after the season. A true Sophie's choice.

that has to be a match made in heaven.. hometown boy coming home to rescue the franchise ?
the only problem is that nobody knows how much mcnabb has left physically. he looks beaten up badly. still has a fine arm, but his accuracy sucks. and he always looks one hit away from the IR
chicago has griese and orton behind rex.. ideally you take mcnabb for a couple of years as you pick a qb to groom to succeed him.. the problem is i do not think mcnabb's psyche will hold up under another "kolb" situation.
so if you take mcnabb you have to hope that he can get through at least a couple of seasons intact.. that is whistling past the graveyard.
plus, the chicago O line is getting age on it and could do little to protect either grossman or griese. put mcnabb behind that type of line and you are inviting catastrophe.
finally, there is the issue of running game-- or lack of it. as long as the bears had jones and benson they had a game to take the pressure off of the qb. with benson only it is philly redux.. it will all be on mcnabb once again
so, your heart may say send mcnabb to chicago, but your head should say better to grab a qb on the first day in the draft and try to get another year out of one of the 3 you have...

except he may not have a family to salvage if he tries to wait out the season..some things you cannot put off or split the difference over..

That's why it's Sophie's choice (or Hobson's choice if you prefer). It's a lose/lose scenario. I am sure he thought his son's problems were under control before he committed. Lots of players and coaches quit for family reasons, but offhand I can't remember an example that occurred after the season started.

no.. it's a CLEAR choice. you do the right thing.
reid is no factory worker who is going to lose his house and car if he stops going to work. based upon his salary, he is well set to take a year off to deal with things
the problem is that most males are defined by what they do at work.. you ARE a doctor or a lawyer or a IT guy or a football coach.. to give that up risks losing your identity as a man. i am not saying that is right in every case, i am only saying it is right in most cases. it will take tremendous love and strength of character for reid to give up what defines him to the world and salvage his family... DO the right thing...

We are in no disagreement about what would be "right" for us. If it were you or I we never would have started the season since his sons "relapsed" after the month he took off. He started the season, and whether it's Sophie's choice or not it is his to make. That his situation could put family over team is the reason for the report that started all this. That he might put team over family because the season has started is a legitimate option to him, and given that he has started the season IMO he will finish it.

I would have a lot of respect for Reid if he did in fact do this. His sons are playing with fire and he has a lot of things to sort out, and there's no way you can do that and coach a football team at the same time.
