I'm a big fan of FO and they seem to like the Redskins a lot this year.
Its a good read about the Lions game and the defence this year with just one thing I don't quite agree with.
With one of the best defensive lines in the league
 Never I thought I would see that said about this line.

That sentence about our D-Line destroys any credibility this article and it's writer have. Our D-Line had a great day against an inferior O-Line but they need to prove they can do it consistently against good O-Lines to get those kind of accolades.

Yeah that line kind of ruined what was a good article about our defence.
We still have a pretty weak line and won't get pressure like that againse teams with a better OL.

Sometimes we are more critical than necessary though too. Think about it this way, the line has two jobs (1) stop the run and (2) pressure the QB. Put them in any order you want. I prefer the order I have listed above.
When Griffin is healthy, we have been good/very good at stopping the run (half the battle). Add on top of that Carter looks like he is going to end up with double digit sacks, and he has made game changing plays on two of them in the last two games (Eli fumble and Kitna safety).
No doubt we don't generate enough pressure, but I would say this line, when healthy, is no worse than middle of the pack. If we ever got another rusher, forget about it.

We really do need another good pass rusher opposite Carter but how long does Griffin have left?
A replacement for him will be needed soon as well.

Right now, I tend to agree that the D-Line is middle of the pack but we were among the worst last year. I'm not one of those that thought our D-Line was horrible this year, just that we needed another pass rusher to be very good.

Well........................., if you only look at the Lions game, it would appear that we are. :D These guys are credible and write the Football Prospectus. In this year's edition, they predicted a bounce back year for the Skins. They said the Skins were due a bounce back because we were so awful on D during 3rd downs. Their research has shown that most teams that were awful on 3rd down conversions, make necessary improvement in the off season, and come back stronger then next year. The thinking being that if you can't get off the field on 3rd down, you are not going to be successful. So far it sounds like they are correct. They also said Leonard Davis was probably not a good signing for Dallas due to his league leading false starts. I watched the Giants/Cowboys game and Davis had two false starts in that game.

Inside the Nfl last night practically drowned the dallas offensive line with their drool. Said that Davis was a huge pick up for them and he has blah blah blah for the Dallas offense. w/e
I agree with the D-Line being middle of the pack... but looks as though they are getting better.

If carter ends up with 12 sacks and Griffin gets in 8 I think we might qualify as a good line.
We haven't been good based on last season but so far this season we have been solid and we're heading towards good.
Carters on Pace to have a monster season.

Carter's on pace for a 16 sack season, but that doesn't mean anything really. I think he'll end out in the double digits, but the on pace stat means all of nothing.

Often that is true, but maybe not in this case. If a guy gets 5 sacks in one game and none in the next four, then you would be right. But Carter has 8 in the last 9 games he has played and has been held without a sack during that 9 game stretch just twice. Meaning, about once a game he is getting a sack. The Lions game is the only one he had 2.
Before the Giants game, my feelings where his sacks were not very productive, but in the last two games, that's not true either (safety and fumble setting up a TD). Let's hope he continues, but his body of good work is now 9 games and counting.

Statistical rankings during the season only matter if a team consistently holds them, week to week. We were closer to middle of the pack before the Detroit game and shot up by holding them to 140 total yards. In turn, their offense went from the top to the middle of the pack.
This game will be tougher and I don't expect our defense to be ranked 3rd when it's over.

I agree. Two things seem to have happened - scheme is simplified allowing reaction instead of read/react, and success is building confidence. Is the D line "one of the best"? We don't know but we do know they look good against lesser O lines. If this is carried over to good O lines, superior performance not necessarily domination, then we will owe the coaching staff both apologies and kudos.
Btw just read the Doc Walker article, and guess that the don't-like-Wilson comment was the one thing you did't like about the outsiders article. Doc is impressed with Wilson, and he is a pro. Believe him instead of the article in this regard.

it is entirely possible that we have that rusher in Wilson - time will tell - we may see more of him against GB
as for the order of the line, i would reverse that for the game against GB
