max mcgee, the irrepressible WR from green bay passed away today at 75.

he died much the way he lived his life. on his own terms. he was up on his roof clearing away leaves and fell. by the time the paramedics got to him he had passed away. often in lombardi's dog house, he was not expected to play in superbowl 1 because of missing curfew. instead when boyd dowler suffered a shoulder separation in the first quarter he stepped in a caught the first td in superbowl history. he continued to be the packs leading receiver that day

he was also a tulane football player and lead the ncaa in returns his senior year.

he was a packer announcer and later was one of the founders of the chi-chi mexican restaurant chain.

his favorite quote to lombardi was "on third and ten you want a whiskey drinker as a receiver and not a milk drinker"

RIP for a life well lived

A good gift for your older parents is stuff like seasonal lawn services, gutter service, snow removal, etc. Our elderly fathers don't know when enough is enough sometimes. My dad has passed away, but he would try risky things like this into his 80's. My sister finally "borrowed" his aluminum ladder and never returned it.

That is a good suggestion. My Dad is in his 60's and I watch what he does. Over the past few years he has been gifted with a riding lawnmower and a snow blower even though it took a while to convince him to actually use them.

R.I.P. Mr McGee. Even though I never saw you play, through reading and the magic of videotape I was able to appreciate what you did in the game of football.

aint it the truth.... mrs shally is restricting my activities daily.. next thing you know she wont be letting me post any more here .... (do i hear cheering in the background, or is that just my hearing loss..lol)

i remember one time a few years ago when i was still performing surgery one of our vehicles had to be towed. it was on top of a flatbed and i could see that the chain holding the wheel secure was loose. i began to reach under the care and mrs shally started screaming at me to get my hands out of there since they were necessary for employment.. i told her i could not fit my head in there (apparently which i seldom use) and the tow truck operator fell out laughing..

seriously, i cannot tell you how many patients i treated with serious injuries who were doing things they had no business doing
