Aikman slams Plummer

The Denver Post reports former Dallas Cowboys QB Troy Aikman said Tuesday the Broncos are in trouble if QB Jake Plummer doesn't improve after his opening-game performance. "I think that when Jake Plummer came into this league he had tremendous potential, tremendous ability. I just don't know whether or not Jake's learned how to play the quarterback position," Aikman said on his Sporting News Radio show. "It's more than just running around and throwing the ball down the field and trying to make plays," Aikman said. "It has to be an understanding of when you try to make the tough throw, when you eat it, when you throw it away, when you use hard count, when you go for it on third downs

If the Broncos had played anyone else on opening day other than the Bungles, they would be 0-1 rather than 1-0. Plummer looked terrible against a bad Bungle team. If he can't improve his performance, Clinton Portis will face 8 in the box every week.

I still think he'll make a nice rebound and play well this year. But, hell, my other predictions aren't looking so hot right now. Pats over bills, God, I need to personally throttle whoever New England's GM is for cutting Lawyer Milloy and wrecking my season's prediction for the AFC East. Half the people on the Pats don't know who their starting strong safety is now.

The Broncos would have been better to keep Griese. Plummer has accomplished absolutely nothing so far in his career.

I'd say the Cardinals' first playoff win in more than fifty years is accomplishing something.

Would you say that playoff win should have resulted in him becoming one of the highest paid QB's in the league?

I was releaved that Plummer didn't go the Cowboys, when Denver picked him up. I've never seen anyone do so much with so little.

Walsh liked him. Told the 49ers to draft him, instead of Drunkenmiller in the first round.
Parcells liked him. Back out when the money went out of sight.
And Shannahan personal choice.

Until we signed Patrick Ramsey & it became evident he was going to progress quickly, I was still hoping the Redskins would pick him up whenever he left the Cardinals (which I knew he would, that which does not die there, leaves there).

Not quite that much money, no. I think the limited success he had in Arizona warranted a starting gig somewhere else.

Don't get me wrong, maybe in the right system he will flourish. I personally just don't see it happening based on his past performances however.

You need to be smart to be a great QB, and when you look at his mistakes, well...

Aikman stated the obvious here.
Plummer won't even last the season if he can't play better...but I watched part of that game, and he over threw a lot. That is unlike Jake. He will rebound.

I have never been impressed with him, now he has some real weapons and a good team around him, if he fails here then there is nothing left to say
