OK, what's the deal with Micheal Irvin as the 4th guy in the countdown? What the hell happened to Sterling Sharpe? I liked him...he was good. Now we have the coked out Irvin on their talking about himself or how "Dallas did it"!!! Look at him twitching and being all jittery. He's like Tweek!
Please, someone tell me this is not permanant!
Does anyone know what happened to Sterling?

Probably ESPN just making changes. I agree with you, I don't like it either. He did pick against the Boys though. The only one to do it.

Man, I just thought of that. I couldn't for the life of me figure out who was missing from that group. I thought Sterling did an incredible job up there. I too would like to know.

One minute, Irvin is doing coverage of Arena Football...and now he is doing the NFL? Come on! He is nothing but hot air.

I do prefer Sharpe over him...

I'm sorry but I think they made a bad decision to go with Irvin.

Me too. I can't believe the networks have such a short memory with professional athletes who have had trouble with the law. It wasn't all that long ago that Irvin was involved in a potential murder scam involving a Dallas PO. He has had numerous drug busts and now he gets to work on ESPN. I don't know if that is a sad commentary on that state of America or just ESPN.

Ray Lewis is another example. Maybe he didn't have anything to do with the stabbing before Super Bowl a few years back, but at the very least he was mixed up with some questionable associates to say the least. What a short memory we have when it comes to great athletes.

Keri Potts, a spokeswoman for ESPN, said Thursday that Irvin was replacing Sharpe on "Countdown."

"He did a great job for us," Potts said, referring to Sharpe. "We think he has a great future. It's just that we are very excited about Michael."

What is she an idiot? She downgraded!

Said Shapiro in the release, referring to Irvin, "He brings solid credentials: closeness to the game, an engaging personality and television experience."

As an analyst, Sharpe was a high-volume talker, which is to say he could shout for impressively long periods of time. When his turn came, he could give you wall-to-wall words, but those words didn't always contain impressive insight, unvarnished opinion and a willingness to take shots at players and coaches.

I thought Sharpe did a great job complimenting the other analysts. Do you want ALL of them saying the same thing? He does not have an "engaging personality". No way....my wife even liked to listen to Sharpe, and she hates to watch Irvin now. We are trying to find another show to watch now.

THANKS A LOT ESPN! You dont EVER fix what isn't broke!

and by the way "television experience"??? Sharpe has been on TV LONGER than Irvin.
What really went on behind the scenes here? I don't mind rush limbaugh...but why would you pick such an obnoxious punk with a criminal record for the countdown? He doesn't belong!!!

Sharpe was a big tallker, but I prefer him to Irvin. Easily. And adding Limbaugh was silly; just a cheap publicity stunt. For Limbaugh's sake let's hope he picks game's better than he did last week.

I liked what Rush added to the show...BUT, I did not like the way he would expect everyone to shut up for him, then interrupt everyone else with his thoughts.
He was brought in as man to argue with. Add diversity. And he's doing that. I wouldn't mind that change if it wasn't for Irvin. I just truely can't stand that guy. I didn't like him as a player, and I don't like him as a person, and I don't like his TV personality. Can anyone honestly tell me he didn't look like he was tweeked out on the countdown this week?

He may be all that but there's a differance between being load and being flat out racist. I'll take 4 Irwins before I pee and Limbau when he's on fire.

vice versa and you have my opinion! :D

You'd put up with an openly racist man before Michael Irwin?

jsarno

1- he's not "openly" racist.

2- if he wrapped it in a well said package, then yes. That's how much I hate Irvin and his lack of commentary skills.

TO be quite honest, neither belong...Steve, Boomer, Jackson and Sharpe were GREAT together. Nothing was wrong with that...why did ESPN go and skrew things up?

Seriously...I've been watching countdown for years...is there ANY other similar show on the air at that time, cause I can no longer watch countdown! Fox maybe???? Anything???
