All the financial issues aside for a sec, can he help the Redskins win?

I say hell yes. Best 3 gap tackle in the league, (which is something we use) a great locker room presence and draws double team all the time. He could also help bring along our first round pick, assuming it's a d-lineman.

Hypothetical question since he'll want alot of money, but if Champ isn't resigned the front office could pick him over one of the big money cornerbacks out there.

I would be concerned about locking up big money in an older player like Sapp. I say we give Champ the $18 million and forget about Sapp.

That wasn't the question. Read my post again...

I disagree. I don't see him as overrated at all, and we surely don't know what his price tag will be at this juncture.

Hey now - don't get bitchy.

Ok - so I see how you said financials aside ... sorry, replied with my first thought.

I still don't like the idea, but some team is gonna give him what he wants (whoops there I go again about the money).

Anyway – I like what we did this offseason, going after younger guys with a few years of experience. Let’s not repeat the Deion, Carrier, George fiasco we had a few years ago. Those bruises are still fresh.

Sapp has 4 or 5 good years left easy! But because we went out and got Haley,Dalton and Chase I think we will be fine this year.I could see us drafting a guy at DEand/or DT early next year to further compliment what we already have.
I really think DE is where we will see we need help the most.Did you guys see the Numbers Vonnie Holliday put up for the Chiefs sure wish we had given him more consideration than Upshaw and Zellner.

If we're not considering money, I say he can help us win.

He can definitaly help us win but his age and his price are a little to high for my tastes.

I would love to see him in a Redskins uniform!

From what I've heard, Holliday gets virtually all of his stats in about 25% of his games. The other 75%, he is virtually worthless, so he would have been a good pick up for 4 games, but nothing for the other 12.

Financials aside, Sapp is better than any DT we have and could help us win the next 3 years, which is about what he has left at the level he is currently playing at, maybe 2.

He can help, but i'd like to see our global dl performance before thinking about that. But i won't mind having him.

Sapp as a player could help our D - no doubts about that. We WILL be drafting a D-line player within the frist three rounds (if we still have a pick come then) and having a player of Sapp's caliper would go along way in helping to develop the younger ones.

The FO has a fine line of judgment to apply between an aging veteran and a rookie player. I agree with their concept for this year - bring in proven, but still young talent at a competitive market price!
Warren Sapp does not fit that concept:banghead:

Sapp isn't overrated, he's a genuine superstar. He's one of the few professional athletes who has actually earned the attention he receives. The problem now is that he is on the wrong side of 30 and that's dangerous when it comes to free agency. He'll want a big signing bonus. That means the contract will have to be long-term. It's hard to imagine Sapp playing at his current level for much longer.

If Sapp gets out on to the open market, though, I cannot imagine the Skins sitting it out. No matter what Daniel Snyder seems to go after big-name free agents. He's attracted to them like a moth to flame.
