With Stephon Heyer and Jason Fabini manning the right side of the offensive line and 3 of the 4 recievers we had in camp not in the game, Al Saunders took Monte Kiffen to school. He could have done without the two trick plays in a row and should have called a QB sneak on that 4th and 1 instead of a run , but in the second half he was truely brilliant. We HAVE to find a way to keep him next year, which shouldn't be a problem if Gibbs stays. If Gibbs leaves Snyder needs to go straight from the press conferance to make sure this guy goes NOWHERE. We didn't win today but other then 1999, (Thanks again Mike Nolan) I haven't seen a Redskins offense show so much efficiency with a talent on offense that I'm only going to refer to as avarege because I said Reche Caldwell would be an outstanding number two reciever in the NFL when he came out of college and self dislusion is all I have left today.

Yeah, those two trick plays were crap. Saunders did have a good called game today otherwise.
From what I've been hearing, Jason could have audibled to a sneek on the 4th and 1 but he didn't because of the look Tampa gave them. He mentioned this in his press conference. If they got one look, it's a run, another look, it's a sneek. The blame on that play falls on the offensive line for not getting the push.

Meh screw that. It was 4th and a nose hair and you should be able to get that if they put the coaching staff, fans and every stripper in Tampa on the line of scrimmage. Either Saunders or Gibbs should have told Campbell to run the sneak no matter what.

I thought Clinton made a poor run there as well, he dropped his head and ran straight into the defense,I thought had he kept his head up there was a lane outside he could have taken.
On the next possesion on a similar 4th and 1 he kept his head up and slid outside off tackle.

They are undersized and I think got more penetration then they did push because of their quickness. On a 3rd and about a full yard, we ran the sneak and got it easily.

Yeah, how is it that there has to be a special defense called for you to be willing to run a SNEAK??? These guys are way overthinking this stuff. Just run up there and plow forward like you did earlier in the game. You got a huge QB who needs a yard. I didn't like the decision to go for it there anyway, and the playcall was even worse, whether it was Jason who called it or whomever.

412 yards of offense is. If the whole team didn't have a case of butterhands in the first half, who knows what could have been?

So tired of this line of reasoning. I understand it, and I've been guilty of it in the past, too, but enough is enough.
Time to live in reality. We did move the ball, but we SCORED 13 POINTS against another team that had, what, 1 first down the entire second half??
Moving up and down the field is meaningless without scores.
Keeping games close is meaningless without a "W."
Saunders is definitely showing why he was hired with the last few games, but I don't think anyone deserves any kind of special shout out after this game.
I don't care about stats, I want POINTS. I don't care about "gutsy performances," I want WINS....being happy with anything less just keeps the loser culture going.

I agree 100%. These stats are meaningless because when we get inside the 20 we can punch it in. We seemingly have no plays that go for over 20 yards and I cant recall an explosive offensive TD this year.
I agree Al called a nice game today, but something has to give with scoring TDs. I imagine there aren't too many teams racking up 400+ and scoring 13.

The problem is redzone offense, and that's a combination of Campbell's inexperience, offensive line issues, and the lack of a wide receiver tall enough (other than Cooley) to really be a threat and catch jump balls/fades.

We have enough talent RIGHT NOW to be sitting in a great position.
We lose games because of a lack of heart, a lack of focus, a lack of desire, a lack of preparation, whatever you want to say. It's not because of a lack of talent. Except for the New England game.
That's what angers me the most. If we lost every game the way we lost last week, I wouldn't be nearly as upset, but you have to play that hard every game, from start to finish, or forget it. We can't get that through our thick heads. That's a sign of something that goes a lot deeper than Xs and Os.
The way we played that first half is an absolute disgrace and a total slap in the face to every Redskin fan. We dug ourselves a hole against an INEPT team for no reason whatsoever. Gruden must be scratching his head right now wondering how he got that win, and then he must be thanking God that he played the Redskins this week, because any other team would've crushed the Bucs today.

saunders does seem to be getting the offense clicking but someone always finds a way to mess it up with a fumble or pick

I'm not disagreeing with you at all. In just about every game this year, we always seem to be less into the game, less focused, less intense, and less motivated than the opponent. It's a big problem.

the problem is we dont ever take shots at the end zone. its always 1st and goal on the 10 and run, 2 year pass, 3 yard pass then feild goal. we gatta take at least a few shots down there.

I'm starting to seriously doubt that, especially on the offensive side of the field.
Right now we have a very young and inexperienced QB (which is the worst thing you can have for a team that always winds up in close games).
Quite possibly the worst receiving staff in the league (we have 1 receiver in the top 50 in the league, and he is averaging less than 40 yards per game since after the Giants game. Plus, they are all either very old or very fragile).
A crippled offensive line (Thomas, Jansen, Rabach has missed time, Wade has missed time, etc. etc.).
A very inconsistent starting RB, and a very mediocre backup.
And Cooley, who is the only guy playing more or less up to his standard.
But I absolutely agree with you that a decent team would have massacred the Bucs today. Actually, a good team would have won something like 45-0.

I agree. I think some of you people are crazy. I mean is Gibbs and Saunders called one more "fumble play" I was going to bean them. Their strategy was obviously flawed, but then they made the adjustment to switch to "throw it to the guy in the pewter pants"... They're both clowns. :D

I especially disliked the first two calls of the game by Saunders:
"Moss 7 yard catch and fumble" and "Moss false start".
I mean, what was Saunders thinking?? Why does he even have a "false start" play in his playbook??

Gibbs said after the game that they were trying to catch the Bucs of guard with something they weren't expecting... My thought was call a play where Moss goes deep and catches the football.
All kidding aside, I miss being in the Bucs shoes.... They got +6 in the TO column and BARELY won a football game. They were TERRIBLE and had we played that way and won people would complain all week.... but it reinstates my belief that truly winning is everything in the NFL. Who cares how you get it done.
B/c of where I live there will be a lot of Iggle talk today about how they almost slayed the beast... My only reply is that Lurie should take the team to the NCAA where they still award style points. Otherwise shut the <<expletive deleted>> up and remember that you're also 5-6.:smash:

I agree. I didn't like the two Portis fumble plays, either, although at least their design showed a little creativity.
I mean, on the first one you let a guy get off his block early and grab Portis from behind, popping the ball out. On the second you get a decent gain and then have Portis turn his back to the defender while being stood up, creating a perfect target to slam into, all the while asking your star running back to grip the ball with all the muscle strength of a cosmonaut returning from a year-long space flight and remain oblvious to his surroundings.
Definite style points on those, but I'm not sure if giving the ball away there helped us much.
The Campbell "fumble just before arm goes in motion" play was executed to perfection, though. Rypien couldn't have executed that one any better.
I think all those came from the Playbook Appendix. Which is funny, because watching that game made me feel like my appendix was exploding.
