View Full Version : This Season Is Far From Over **Posted for Sonny Kilmer**

I know we all have heavy hearts today, but in regards to football and the Skins' remaining games this season, let's realize that this season is far from over. The Skins' are still in the hunt for the final playoff spot and own a number of tiebreakers should they win out.
If the Skins win out, they should probably make the playoffs according to the following scenario:
Skins win out thereby owning tiebreakers over Minnesota, Chicago, Arizona, and Detroit.
Panthers are playing Jacksonville this Sunday, so hopefully that will be a loss for them putting them a game behind the Skins.
The Lions are playing Dallas this weekend, so that's a loss and the Cards will probably lose one as well.
With all this in mind, we must win out and hope the Saints do not win out, which will put us a game ahead of them. The Saints have a soft schedule, so they are our biggest competitor right now.
Enough moping about timeout mishaps, getting rid of Gibbs, and saying the season is over. Far from it. The Skins are in an excellent position to make the playoffs, and any fan who says the season is over should probabaly consider whether they want to be a Redskins fan anymore.
The Bills game is over. It's time to get behind the team and beat Chicago. Why should all these other these other teams get that last playoff spot instead of us?!?!
This is no time for self pity. It's time to be nothing but positive. The playoffs are there for the taking.
Beat Chicago.

But if we can not beat the Bucs, then Buffalo in our own home on an emotionally charged day and stop a lame Buffalo defense from killing JJC, what makes you think Thursday will be any different. What makes you think we can beat Minny and stop Adrian Peterson when a no name backup ran over us. What makes you think we can beat Dallas. Seems to me we go over these playofff scenarios week in and week out, only to lose the next week in the 4th quarter once again. What makes this any different?

It is groundhog day around here. The exact details of each loss is different but the overall picture is the same. This team is playing exactly the same as a team each game, and we know the results. I am always one to say if the math don't have them out yet they are still in. I am worn down however. They just play the same for pretty much the last 4 years. It is time for a change.

Even if we win out, we don't deserve to be in the playoffs and what's more, I don't think we can win on the road in Tampa or Seattle, which would be our destination.
This team essentially makes me sick. We always do enough to stay in games but not win them. We mastered the art of finding ways to lose ballgames, and everyweek it is something different.
I told myself, and the rest of my HR brethren that I didn't care what happenned the rest of the year. That wasn't true, especially in light of Pedro Taylor's words. I wanted this team to rise-up and play inspired football in honor of their fallen teammate, and what they did was play like a bunch of bitches.
Blow this team up. Start at the top.

If the games become official at halftime and we don't have to play the second half of any of the remaining games this season then this is a possibility.
Seriously though, this season ended a week ago Sunday in Tampa when the Redskins lost 2 fumbles in the first 4 plays letting everyone know that they are not a real threat to win a game when it matters. My guess is we don't win another game this season. We're not winning at the Giants, we're not beating Dallas and we're about even with Chicago and Minnesota which means we'll get a lead and then blow it in the 4th quarter. Am I going to stop watching? No. Am I going to stop rooting for the Skins? No. But I'm trying to talk myself out of hoping they still have a chance because they let me down every week. Of course, at 8:00 Thursday night I'll have talked myself into the fact that they're still in it. It's really a vicious cycle.

We'll adopt a new strategy to protect our 4th quarter 10 point lead: surprise punt on first down everytime. It will keep us from fumbling the game away. Hell, maybe we should do it in the 3d quarter, too.

The definition of insanity is to repeat the same action over and over while expecting a different result.
Im done with this team until 2008. If I wasn't financially committed already, I wouldn't be going to the Bears game.

Your right, this season is far from over and I hate. I had to sit and watch yesterday as my favorite team in the whole world made some pathetic attempt to honor a fallin teamate. It was so disheartning to watch and now I have to watch them flounder around for the next 4 games and make some pathetic attempt to honor Sean again. I've been beating myself up the last 24 hours over this... and you know what pains me the most??? Seans family had to sit and watch that game like I did. It was bad enough as a fan, but now they have nothing positive for them to look at. Players cant even say to them "I left my heart on the field for Sean." Pathetic, digraceful, and I've never been more ashamed as a fan and as a person. I just hope Sean wasn't watching.

Much as I'd like to be optimistic, I doubt we win another game. I think the team is just too down, for many reasons. I know I feel the loss of ST, much more than I would have imagined. The team just has too many issues, and this season is just not going our way. We've got a patch-work lineup, and it is barely competitive. The coaching is just barely average, and that is genorous. I love the Skins, and will be watching and pulling hard for em every game, but I've started to look to next year. Sorry to be such a bummer, but it's where I think we are now, and I don't see a way out.
Had we won the Buffalo game, I would feel differently. But we didn't, and it looked like the team was not focused. I can't blame them, we've all lost focus, after all, it is just a game. Sean was such an important part of this team. They've lost their brother, and playing an inspired game won't bring him back. How many times have we wished it was somebody else, some other team, just not the Skins, not Sean. This will ripple through the team and us for a long time to come.
God I miss Sean Taylor.

God I miss Sean Taylor.
I echo this. I sometimes find myself thinking that our defense will be better once #21 is back from injury and then reality hits and a feeling of sad emptiness ensues. I'll never feel the same as a fan again.

And let not forget if Dallas in some way shape or form makes it to the Superbowl even if the win or lose....it's be alot of Fist fights...LOL
Cause they willl not let up off us...esp while they are winning.....
Then Danny will try the same approach as Dallas did (get rid of the conserivativeness and hire a new coach) and it still will all fall apart....

Sign me up for a little insanity. While I have little faith that we'll even split the last four games, I appreciate the positive spin from some folks. In particular I am very, very down and consider this to me my darkest time as a fan... I need some reason for hope and optimism and I just don't see any. I think Gibbs leaves after this season and the team gets dismantled over the course of 2-3 seasons. Then, once the books are clean, the next coach might have a shot, but I doubt it. I think we are in for a decades of futility....
But again I am not in a good place and not being objective.

Our season is emulating our game play. The Redskins seem to do just enough to keep your hopes up just to stomp them into the mud. During games we look like we have a shot and then BAM we blow it. As far as the season goes, we keep hanging on to playoff expectations by a thread. If this, this and this happens we can get in. All of the other events happen and then the Redskins screw their part up. Like others were saying, even if some miraculous circumstance happens and we get in, we have NO chance. I think it is more likely that we will not win another game this year. I think we are beaten down as a team.

I love the Washington Redskins, always have and always will. They could go 0-16 and I would still defend them. I love the heart of tis team but to be honest, we're just not that good. Our line can't protect the QB, our secondary is not fast enough and our front four can't get to the QB (even when we blitz). We're finding ways to lose. With that said.....we need CONTINUITY. All these people calling for Joe's head?!! What the heck? I agree..he needs to get his head into the details again...this macromanaging stuff isn't working. One more year with the coordinators. If you don't re-evaluate our goals every so often, we're not going to make any progress. Unfortunately at this point in the season, with our current record, 9-7 and the last WC spot is indeed our ultimate goal.

I am going to watch the final games with a big smile on my face and enjoy them. Even if we don't make the playoffs, it doesn't matter to me anymore. I just know how dull life is when my skins aren't "in season".
So my recommendation is just root for a team that gives everything they have every Sunday (or Thursday) to entertain us and give us 3+ hours of time away from reality, away from worries at work, away from family issues.
Anything extra like the playoffs, ect. is all icing on the cake.

Agree. When there is more than one IF in a scenario that means playoffs then it is over. Disagree about CHI and MINN being even. The 'Skins are down emotionally, at the age of starters it will take a full week to recover and the game is in 2 days, and they are down from ST and the Buff game. Also, MINN is improving and has a good D and better than good running game if Peterson is available. Seeing us as a 3 point favorite over CHI, given how well they played Sunday against a superior team, is a joke.
There is only one thing to do at this stage, and that is to find out what we really have that we can rely on down the road. Play Mix, Caldwell, Betts, Heyer, Alexander (some), Torrance, find out about Doughty, give Blades some time, etc. Rebuilding is now the name of the game with a coaching staff going into their last year (even if JG returns nexgt year, does anyone really expect him to extend?). Changes are inevitable, and learning how to best use available $ and draft choices is paramount, far outweighing another victory even were it obtainable.

Wow, man. I logged in today after watching the funeral coverage from yesterday, and the pre-game Taylor tribute several times on NFL.com. I wasnt going to post anything remotely "kool-aid" related (i.e. running the table, making the playoffs, etc), but I was certainly going to express how proud I was that this team went out and played a football game days after Sean's death and the night before having to travel to Miami for his funeral. That combined with the incredibly classy pre-game tribute (which still makes me cry) has me prouder to be a Skins fan than ever before - truly.
Instead, the first post I read is about how the team played liked a bunch of "bitches" and didnt honor Taylor's memory.
Keino - I love you dawg, but I could read such a hostile post on the "other" fan forum any day of the week. I dont know if you were at Fed Ex for the game Sunday, but I can't imagine how anyone that stood there prior to kickoff and experienced that moment could carry so much venom about the "exhibition game" that was played after it. It's your opinion, and I respect it. It's just surprising.
When this season is over, it will not be the "season we blew halftime leads", or the "season we realized Joe lost his touch" or the "season we failed to land an easy playoff spot." To me, it will be the season we lost Sean Taylor. Period. And no win - whether it was over the Bills or strung together with four straight, will ever change that for me.

i respectfully disagree. i believed all the players played there hearts out. They tried there hardest. its just time to realize that this isn't a very good team, and that little mistakes can cost us the game.
I believed everyone played as tough as they could, but the emotional week before, leads to less concentration in practice, leads to mistakes in the game. Comeon guys, we didn't expect them to light it up did we. They played incredibly hard, they just didn't finish, and i think that is attributed to the lack of how good this team is, not whether they played hard or not.

Honestly Keino, have you been reading the stuff that JLC has been putting in his blog? How could any of us think that this team is close to being focused on football when they've got ST's locker encased in glass with his stool, towels, jerseys and what nots in there.... along with a picture of his daughter and himself together.
This team obviously had problems before Sean's passing but I think his loss has made this team question the game itself and the will to play. At the end of the day, it's just a game... it feels like more to us fans, but they all lost a loved one. Give them all a break.

I honestly think it hurts worse for me to see my team lose knowing that we're a healthy offensive line away from being just as good as Green Bay or Dallas. Who knows if the NFC will be as weak as it was this year (history shows that it probably will be) but there will be a time in the future when 10-6 won't be enough to get into the playoffs. And I'll just think back to these last couple of years and remember how we squandered a chance at being one of the best....

1)I don't see how me re-evaluating goals will help the team progress. If I have that power, I should be payed.
2)The last wild-card spot has been our highest goal for 4 years now (actually more). It's getting annoying.

At the end of the day, it's just a game... it feels like more to us fans, but they all lost a loved one. Give them all a break.According to this, they should just pack everything up and never play a game again.

Honestly Keino, have you been reading the stuff that JLC has been putting in his blog? How could any of us think that this team is close to being focused on football when they've got ST's locker encased in glass with his stool, towels, jerseys and what nots in there.... along with a picture of his daughter and himself together.

I am more than willing to give anybody in the organization a break for the Bills game, and the Bears game. You'll hear no criticism from me that spawns directly from those two games. The problem is that we already had a losing record (AGAIN) before the tragedy.

The season isnt over, your correct, we can still lose out and get great draft position. I just want the season to end now, this is the season from hell. Losing Sean Taylor destroyed this football season for me and I dont care what our record is when we finish. I will never forget this season no matter how poorly we finish, because this is the season when four complete morons decided to take an incredible young mans life. This is one season of football that completely transcends the game, reaches outside the yardlines and the stadiums and touches the hearts of even people who hate the game. I have loved the game and the Redskins my whole life, but losing Sean Taylor will have a life long affect on me, no matter how many years go by, I will always say "if 21 was out there, that never would have happened". Last night while watching the Ravens-Patriots game, I saw Randy Moss get in a DB face, and said to myself he wouldnt do that to Sean Taylor, and that reminded me that he will be gone forever.

I am no expert, but it may mean bump to the top. By the way, if I am right, I actually feel kind of cool for knowing that.

Like other posters I concur. Sean's passing has changed my view of the game forever.
You know as i think about your post I think Moss may have gotten in Sean's face. However, Sean would make him pay dearly.

Keino? Was that your post?... Wow... I'm so disappointed...

That's how I felt at the time and I don't think I said anything that wasn't true as of December 2.
But I'm glad you bumped this post, because everything I have seen since I was so pissed at the team on 12/4 has made me proud of the team. They gave Sean the honor he deserved by not only finishing the season strong, but being downright dominant.
I am all too happy to be wrong.

One of my favorite sayings of all time is "lost causes are often the only ones worth fighting for." Way to fight for a "lost cause," Sonny Kilmer. I certainly can't pretend that I was full of your hope and optimism that day. That had to be my lowest day as a fan ever, by FAR. But ... I always cling to that last shred of hope until it's gone. And the team came through for us all.
What's even better is how scary they look right now. Anyway, score one for the power of positive thinking. A good lesson.

lol Sonny you deserve credit for being faithful. I didn't post in this thread but did if I did it would have been close to Keino's at the time.
