Does this Grif statement not bring back memories of a DT fro the Redskisn in the 1980s?

Redskins defensive tackle Cornelius Griffin (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Cornelius+Griffin?tid=informline), meantime, looked down in the fourth quarter and saw blood streaming from a gash in his right forearm.
"I don't know what happened," he said later. "Just wipe it off and keep going."

DAVE BUTZ!!!!

Griff had a great game. That tackle inside the 5 yard line was amazing! He stuffed the runner 2 yards in the backfield! Get em' Griff!!!!! Hail!!!

Come on guys you're starting to sound like Gibbs forgetting Jay last night in his presser:) What about Bill Brundige playing with broken bones in a cast?

So did Jim Brown. It's what he does when standing that counts.

Diron Talbert (70's) and Dave Butz come to mind. Butz was huge in the middle. Talbert was mean and nasty :)

That was very close to the play of the game if you ask me. Defiantly kept the 4th quarter hebie jebies from showing up again.

I was very nervous when Griff laid on the field. My first thought was we can't afford him to get hurt. I'm glad he was okay.

I thought Griff got hurt on the play that he stuffed in the backfield too. That was huge!

This sort of goes along with what you are talking about. This was in the Roanoke times...

Gibbs ticked off a list of players who refused to let injuries stand in the way of facing the Bears:

n The coaches didn't think cornerback Shawn Springs would play because of a back injury. But after working out before the game, Springs entered the equipment room and retrieved his own pads and uniform -- a highly unusual move -- and said he was ready. He ended up intercepting two passes.

n Cornerback Fred Smoot became so dehydrated after vomiting on the sidelines that the medical staff carted him into the locker room. Watching the game on TV, Smoot saw the Bears driving, distracted a medical staffer by asking him to find something for him then dashed back onto the field when the man's back was turned.

n Tight end Chris Cooley was kicked in the shin and left the field for X-rays at the same moment Campbell was being carted into the locker room. Gibbs didn't think he would be back; instead, Cooley caught five passes and averaged nearly 20 yards.

n Running back Clinton Portis also vomited on the sidelines, but refused to abandon the game. He ended up turning a screen pass into a 53-yard gain that set up a late touchdown.

n Offensive tackle Chris Samuels went to the trainers before kickoff and said one of his feet was extremely painful and that he couldn't put any pressure on it. Yet, he played the entire game.

"That took a real determination on the part of those guys," Gibbs said. "If any of them had not done that, we probably don't win that game."
