what is the big fuss all about with the Hand signals at the line to change plays and to communicate with wr/rb. Does this really play a big part in the game. I know Patrick Ramsey must change some calls with his hands because things will be loud this i totally agree with, but can doug Johnson really help his def with what he knows? I mean the falcons do have tapes of our games and can figure this out too. What else besides what he did in college?

Yeah he could tell the defense the routes that receivers will run based on the signal.

It wouldn't be so much of a factor in another offense, but in our offense that is so audible heavy, hand signals are a reliable way to counter crowd noise on the road. So if we didn't change our signals, Doug Johnson could do exactly as hail2skins says above.

Ok, but are these hand signals the same as the ones we have used in prior games? Couldn't the falcons haved pull these games reels and see the routes they ran anyways?
Thanks for some of the clarity thou, go skins .... if i gave hand signals it would be the middle finger to the falcons d-fense.

I'm confused...
Why would Spurrier use ANY hand signals that have already been used in prior games? (NFL or College) Why would Spurrier continually tell the media that he is extensively using these hand signals throughout the game? And by doing so, why would he want to hint to the ATL defensive coordinator to do his homework and study the signals and incorporate them in his game plan?
WHY? Because he will be using different hand signals!
Atlanta will be studing and incorporating the assumedly used hand signals into their practices all week for nothing. Spurrier ain't no dummy. But Doug Johnson may look like one afterwards.

I believe it's more Ramsey using the hand signals at the line than Spurrier from the sideline.

Absolutely. Everything happens at the line of scrimmage.
Now...if Doug has been teaching the D to look for particular hand signals from Ramsey, they could audible themselves.
However, I don't think Spurrier is stupid enough to use the same signals. In fact, I think it would be great if he used the same signals...but switched them. Example: Switching the "HB off right tackle signal" and the "Slants signal". It would REALLY screw up thet ATL D.
