View Full Version : Don't forget to factor in the Dome Conditions

I heard a good point on 980am yesterday.
The skins have revamped their entire team around speed. From Trung to Coles to Bowen to Morton. Our increased speed is supposed to be an advantage.
Sunday, our Skins will play in the Georgia Dome, where the conditions will be perfect for the them.
Astro-turf is a speed runner's dream. Our speedy backs and receivers should benefit from this.
The air in the dome will be still and not swirling. This is perfect conditions for a "passing HC" like Spurrier, and he knows it. Ramsey will really get a chance to air it out in Atlanta. (Which is his first career game in a Dome)
As the guy mentioned on 980am..."The dome is the perfect laboratory petri dish for the Skins."
This is the PERFECT opportunity to see what Spurrier's offense can do. The game conditions are perfect!

Oh...and by the way...
I just saw Champ Bailey on Fox 5, and he said he played his last college game in this dome, and he had one of the best games of his career there. He too, loves the conditions of this dome.

I don't like the sound of that. All the more reason that he should go to ATL.

I am starting to side with the posters who would like this subject tabled until the end of the season. I want to focus on this Sunday, not where Champ might be playing next year.

I had been thinking about this too, DJ. I don't think Atlanta will be faster than us, that's for sure. Coles should be able to get off the ball extremely well on this fast surface.

The Redskins should run a few reverses in this game. Get Laveranues, Trung, and Champ involved on that. Maybe one of those backup Atlanta safeties will misdiagnose and our guys will break a long one.

Because it's Astro-turf, it can cause more injuries as well. I hope Spurrier didn't read that and go in there with the "Im pitch'n and catch'n no matter what because we're in a dome".

Atlanta's punter (low return yards)and place kicker (12 of 16 over 40 yds) had pretty good stats last year. Maybe being in a dome helped them. I sure hope it helps our punter!

Hmm
Will Spurrier abandon the running game under 'ideal passing conditions'?
I was pleasantly surprised he ran so much in the Jets game. But it was rainy & moist that day.
There were a few games last year Spurrier passed so much I began to wonder about the guy (coo-coo for cocoa-puffs)

Down side will be noise. It will be a good test to see how Ramsey handles the offense with the noise factor.

But Spurrier has a plan for that. Instead of pumping in noise via speakers, he has Ramsey whispering the signals at the line. Forces everyone else to watch the ball.

My plan for dealing with crowd noise: Give opposing team's fans the finger. Doesn't quiet them down, but makes me feel better.

Hmm
With the astroturf, maybe that is why Canidate was named the starter, as the 'dash-n-dart' artist.
