Myself and KidBroSweets were at the game last night and man we are starting to look good. Playing every bit like the #1 team in the nation. Lawson, Ellington, and Hansbrough are just amazing, they can just score at will and they create havoc on defense, Ty had 10 steals last night. Once he steals the ball you aren't catching him, it's best not to throw it to him.
Competition hasn't been the greatest but we've tested ourselves on the road and appear to be ready for ACC play. We have a tough one at Clemson in a week so we get tested right out of the gate. I love what I'm seeing though....
Hated to see Bobby go down last night though, that was a killer....I think we'll be fine though.

The last 1:30 of the first half was amazing. Then we came out on fire and put the game away.
We still play sloppy ball at times. It seems they get to excited at times. Make stupid decisions on some passes.
Never the less. It's nice to get a 36 point victory against a pretty good team.

They are loaded as usual. Should be a super season. I wanna see a Heel-Bruin final game. That would be a classic and give big Roy his 2nd. Lawson and Ellington are really special players as is Tyler of course. Gonna be a fun year.

UNC received a huge commitment from John Henson, a 6'10" 220lbs forward. He's from Texas but has roots from Greensboro, NC.
Chose UNC over UCLA and Texas. Ranked in the top 25 of the '09 class.
A 2009 commit, our first for that class.

And still won in a hostile arena. I love games like this. Clemson out hustled UNC on the boards tonight. Clemson fans are saying they gave the game away from the free throw line. Well guess what? Tyler, who is an 81% free throw shooter himself, was only 6-10. He hits those three down the stretch and there's no OT.

Wow...what a game. Me and CHM were so frustrated all night.
positives - Wayne Ellington is sick....he hit so many big shots. I love the kid.
negatives - yes, there was only one positive.
Deon is awful. He plays so soft, he never catches a ball smoothly, he NEVER boxes out...and did i mention he was soft?
The lack of defense and boxing out is what frustrates me to no end. Our defense has been OK this yr but we DONT box out. We havent all year. To me, this is the key to our offense. If we rebound missed shots then we can kick it out and RUN. And we know what our team is like when we run.
We need to feed Tyler more. We feed Deon all day, but somehow Tyler has to get everything off of missed shots.
We officially have no backup PG. Quentin Thomas is awful. He's a turnover machine. We go up 7 and Roy puts him in the game. I turn to Matt and say..watch, theyll get right back in this game. Sure enough, 3 turnovers later, theyre back in it.
Oh well....I guess a win is a win. Top caliber teams find ways to win these games and we did. Go heels!
CarMike
01-06-2008, 11:39 PM
Couldn't agree any more about Deon Thompson. I'm shocked to watch soft he plays. He looked like a different player than the one who played for the USA Jr. team this summer. I don't get it. It has been a long, long time that i've seen UNC out worked like they were last night.
Like I said above. I love games like this. It shows how mentally tough you are to win these games. I'll take it.
Next up for our Tar Heels are UNC-Asheville. They have a 7'7" player who comes off of the bench. They beat SCAR Saturday by 3. And then MooU comes a callin.

North Carolina is No. 1 in the country and the Tar Heels also have no peer when it comes to recruiting.
Not too long ago, Michael Jordan might have been the top recruiter in college basketball. Nine out of every 10 high school kids listed UNC as their dream school.
For the last few years, you add Roy Williams – one of the hardest-working head coaches in the business - into the equation and there’s literally nowhere that the Tar Heels can’t go to land a player.
Here’s some recent evidence: The Tar Heels went into the Lone Star state last week and got a commitment from one of the top juniors in the country – John Henson.
A day later, they got a pledge from the Wear Twins - a pair of skilled forwards out of the Los Angeles area.
That means North Carolina beat Texas in its home-state and then followed it up by beating a UCLA team that has been to consecutive Final Fours in their own backyard.
"When they show up, you might as well pack it up and go home,” said one high-major head coach. “You can’t beat them anywhere right now.”

Tar Heels add another 5* commit for the class of 2010! Good lord UNC is on a roll or what?
The North Carolina Tar Heels added a significant piece to their 2010 recruiting puzzle Wednesday afternoon. Reggie Bullock, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard out of Kinston (N.C.) High committed to UNC after considering offers from Wake Forest and Indiana.
“It was real important for me to go there. With all the hard work I’ve been putting in … to go to that college I finally have the chance,” Bullock said.

Tar Heels win tonight 93-81....
A little shaky defensively imo, need to work on that and I thought we were passive on offense at times when facing the 7'7 Kenny George.
Still avoided a let down in a trap game though, now on to ACC play.

Last nights game against UNCAsheville was hard to watch at times. Those guys couldn't miss. I think I read they shot 53% against UNC. And that giant dude was something else. I bet he doesn't have a 2 inch verticle yet had a double-double. lol

The recruiting you guys are pulling off is very good. I know we started hot (recruiting-wise) when Billy Clyde came on, but things have cooled off (as I guess they might with a 20 loss season potentially looming).
As you guys said earlier too, Ellington is very good. I'm surprised he didn't go for more against us.
What teams do you think are going to pose you the most problems in the tourney?
CarMike

G-Town comes to mind. Anyone who can rebound well will pose problems to UNC. Our defense has got to improve ALOT before MM gets here.

Any team that can shoot the 3 will give us problems, also a team that can get back on defense and make us play halfcourt basketball will cause us problems as well. If you try and run with us though you'll get beat, I don't care who you are.
As far as recruiting, Roy is just a machine. He got refocused after Delvon Roe lied to him, it's really not good news for the rest of the country. Roy is hands down the best recruiter in college basketball. I've heard him say before, "someone might beat me for a recruit, but no one is going to outwork me for one"

That irks me more than anything for fans to like a powerhouse program in one sport but not pull for that same school in another sport. If you are a fan then be a fan, through good times and bad.

Tar Heels land #1 PG in class of 2009!!!
Dexter Strickland has committed to the Tar Heels, InsideCarolina.com has learned through sources close to the situation. The 6-3, 175-pound junior guard from Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick will announce for UNC over Florida in a Sunday afternoon press conference at Madison Square Garden.
He informed the UNC and Florida staffs of his decision on Saturday.
Strickland is ranked the No. 1 point guard in the class of 2009 by Scout.com and the No. 10 prospect overall.

Tar Heels land 4 star instate LBer, Kevin Reddick
During his North Carolina official visit, Kevin Reddick made a decision that seemed likely since the spring. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker from New Bern (N.C.) verbally committed to the Tar Heels.
“I just had a good time with the fellas,” Reddick said. “I felt like [UNC] was where I wanted to be.”
With his parents by his side, Reddick verbally committed to Butch Davis Sunday morning before ending his official visit.
“Basically, he asked me what I wanted to do,” Reddick said. “I just told him I wanted to be there. He said ‘Are you sure.’ I was like ‘Yea.’ So he was like ‘Welcome aboard.’”

I see that a Duke game, and then a UNC game will be on ESPN tonight. Fans of those teams are really fortunate that their programs are considered so first rate. Maybe you guys are too close to the schools to realize the interest they generate at the water cooler or in sports bars around the country. For instance, little Alabama State drew Duke in the tournie a few years ago, and the players were in awe that they would be on the same floor as Coach K. That's neat.

It does when you are rewarded with 3 points you didn't deserve. The game went from a 1 point game to a 4 point game just like that. Clemson goes down with an empy possession and next thing you know they are climbing up hill.

It has nothing to do with "including" him. He won NPOY honors which automatically gets his jersey retired and hung in the rafters.
I also guess it doesn't matter that if he comes back next year he'll leave with the all time scoring record in UNC history. Yet, he's not worthy in a dook fans eyes.
