Name Change?

Whats all this i hear about the Redskins being racist. How is it that people have so much time on there hands they feel complaining about the name of a sports team is the best way to spend it. It seems as if every year some group of people feel they need to change the world and the best way to do that is to make the Redskins change there name.

I only watch football and i only watch the NFL. The only team im interested in is the Redskins. and who ever is playing Dallas. If the skins ever change there name or move to a different city i will never watch football again. don't think i can do it? years ago i watch almost every nascar race. Dale was my man and when he died i stopped watching.

What would you do?

Comes up every year, especially when we have some degree of success. If we win today, it will get worse. There are a few people who consistently whine about it every year, but after we beat the snot of the Seahawks today, you'll start hearing a lot more whining coming from Seattle.

Then Dallas will start carrying on about it as we prepare for that game.

Someone posted a nice link to an essay of some sort going into the origin of the words. Hopefully they will read this thread and post the link here as well.

The name will not change, it's not racist it's a descriptive word from the English who came here and didn't want to call the locals Indians, since they weren't in India......... People need to get a clue and realize that the name is a name of Pride and Tradition and winning, that's what people think of when they hear Redskins, they think of the Team. Those people need to get a life and a real cause in life.

I agree I dont see the name changing. We have too much history and are in the NFL. If we were a small college or high school with the name redskins it might be changed, but not with how big of a name we are.

You guys do know what "Hail Victory" means Auf Deutsch? Ja? Not to give them Ideas. I'm waiting for a Hail Redskins song protest sooner or later.
