So I've seen a couple commercials for this movie and it has really struck me as interesting... Mostly I think b/c they haven't given a thing away in the previews (I really hate that).

So what is the opinion here? Is anyone going to see it?

Please, do not post spoilers.

Cool idea. Blair Witch meets Godzilla.

The first trailer that played before Transformers over the summer was great. It had me hooked in right there.

I'm not expecting a ton because at the end of the day it'll be another monster movie and probably not anything terribly outstanding, but I'm still looking forward to it.

Will definitely be checking it out this weekend.

Just in case nobody noticed, its made by the same guy that made lost so I'm expecting a similar sense of mystery and atmosphere as the show... but I could be completely wrong.

Here's the trailer. Not my cup of tea.

I think it looks quite interesting. I summed it up as a cross between Blair Witch and the Village, but in a good way.

The village? Really? Seeing the statue of liberty's head bounce around the streets of manhattan doesn't really make me think of giant porcupines in medieval robes.

Well, the secrecy of the monster anyways

I'm definitely looking forward to it, and I'll check it out as soon as it hits the theatres over here.

I just thought that the angle (and not sure this is where they are going) that a monster movie from the perspective of a sacred small group of people that have NO CLUE what is happening is interesting. I want to see it... But I must carefully pick and choose when I go to movies these days. Seeing it once it comes to DVD on my new PS3 (thanks again DJ :D) will be just as good I think, but I'd hate for someone or some new trailer to ruin it for me before then.

Some of the early reviews have said that its a pretty good movie. JJ Abrahms stated that since all the other countries have their type of "monster", that he wanted to make one for the US. So far, i'm kinda stoked on it.

Our monster distrusts the government and hates soccer. ;)

I'm definitely seeing it this weekend. I've loved the trailers so far, and have pretty high expectations - Abrams had better meet them, considering how many years of my life he's annexed by dragging me along the neverending mystery tour that is LOST.

I tried so hard to get into LOST and I just couldn't. A couple episodes would catch my attention here and there, but it was WAY too drawn out and literally boring at times... And I really, really wanted to like it.

This movie pretty much ruled. Lots of people getting motion sickness from it, but all my years of playing first-person shooters finally paid off!

There's been a lot of viral marketing going on w/ this movie for the last several months. I don't get into all that stuff, but now that I've seen the flick I did discover that all the characters have their own myspace page. Pretty neat.

I went to see it today at noon, I was not that impressed. I did get a little nauseous and I fly helicopters for a living.

Wow. This was an awesome movie, I highly recommend it.

Warning: One of my marine buddies did get motion sickness from it though... so did some random chick who missed a really great part, too bad for her. Curiously, nobody that has played first person shooters had any problems.

I thought the ending dragged on a little bit, but that's just because the rest of it was so intense. It's just a minor complaint.

I've also heard this movie was really, really short?

InsomniaKiller

Yes, it is a very short movie. The length is perfect, though.

I have been reading up on all the viral marketing for this movie and there really is some interesting stuff if you take the time to sort through it all. Most of it serves only as backstory and involves no content that is actually in the movie. However, while reading through forums, it would seem that myself and quite a few other people missed a couple things right at the end of the film.

So, as vaguely as I can possibly ask, did anybody catch anything out of place in the very last scene of the movie? As in, the very, very end, immediately before the last line of the movie, right before the credits? If you saw it, you're clearly more observant than me and know exactly what I'm referring to. If you don't know, you should google it! Crazy stuff.

Also, at the end of the credits there is a very small audio clip. Watching it in the theater, it can easily be interpreted as saying one thing, which would make sense in the context, although it's a bit difficult to make out exactly. Well, it turns out that if the clip is played in reverse, it says something entirely different and a million times clearer. As in, unmistakable.

You can find info on both those little tidbits pretty easily by googling, and I recommend doing so if you loved this movie as much as I did. Neat stuff.

I really need to see it again.

Cloverfield is ten different kinds of awesome. As soon as the end credits flashed on, the sixty year old woman sitting next to me turned to me and said "Now that's entertainment!"

I agree with her wholeheartedly.

Great quote! My bro and his wife (they're in their 50's) saw it tonight and enjoyed it very much.

Wow, a lot of positive feedback from this movie. I thought it was OK, but it was definately nothing special, and the ending left a lot to be desired. The audience I was with actually booed it. I think it did a good job of putting us in the characters shoes and taking us along for the ride, but it just didn't do it for me. Tons of people were complaining about the camera motion, and while I agreed, I think it was necessary for the concept of the film and did a good job portraying the panic of the situation. I just didn't think the story was anything new, and it kind of fizzled out at the end. I appreciated the original concept, though.

I saw it yesterday. I really liked it and would give it a solid B. I never get motion sickness so it didn't bother me a bit. I know some people who tossed their cookies after watching Blair Witch or Friday Night Lights, so if you are one of them this movie is just as shaky.

I'm absolutely amazed that JJ managed to make this movie for only 25 million. Considering it cleared 46 million in the first weekend means JJ Abrams will continue to get greeen lighted on other cool concepts in the future. Speaking of JJ, they had a pretty cool teaser trailer for the new Star Trek movie he is doing. I'm not big into this genre, but the thought of JJ doing this movie intrigues me.

Cloverfield really is Blair Witch meets Godzilla...but it also meets Dawsons' Creek a tiny bit, too. The directer did the correct thing in casting no-name actors, but I felt the actors weren't totally into every scene. Being that this is shot through the lense of a handheld camera by one of the actors, you should get nothing but true real reactions from the characters and on some occasions I think that was lacking. I won't list anything in particular since this is a non-spoiler thread.

The special effects were amazing. Without giving anything away, I'll just use the word; "Leaning" and those of you who watched it will probably know what I'm talking about.

Insomni~ Thanks for the heads up on that. I left the theater before the credits ended.

I'm not a fan of that comparison. Blair witch was the most boring, over-hyped peace of crap that I've ever seen. Using the same concept, cloverfield lived up to the potential of that method. But yeah, blairwitch concept + godzilla = cloverfield. But it's better than either one by leaps and bounds.

Every review I've read of Clovefield used the BW + G analogy, which seems pretty spot on. I actually enjoyed Blair Witch, and even if you weren't a fan of the movie itself, you have to admit that the concept (seen through eyes of a handheld video camera) was pretty revolutionary at the time. That idea was clearly copied by JJ, although he added some additional elements regarding the tape itself that I won't give away to those who havent' seen it yet.

That's pretty interesting. I heard a radio interview with Abrams like a month ago and he just gave credit to the "youtube" generation, you can find almost anything on youtube and pointed out that you can even see sadam's execution.

Did anybody else snicker when they enabled a certain function of the camera? I mean it was the main character's originally right? Wonder what he used it for lol

The most accurate thing in the movie was that the guy who held the camera the whole time was a bit on the retarded side.
Because you would have to be totally retarded to keep filming after about the 25 minute mark in the movie.
Generally, "survive" should be a higher priority than "record what's going on", not the other way around.

I actually snickered because you could guess exactly what was gonna happen there about 15 minutes before it happened.
