DUNGY OUT, CALDWELL IN
A league source tells us that Colts coach Tony Dungy will step down, and that assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell will take the reins.
More to come.

Yeah, I think just about everyone saw this coming. He didn't sound like a guy who was going to return for another season. The question is, how much will this effect the Colts?

Personally, I think they will continue in pretty much the same manner as they have. They should still remain one of the elite teams in the league, as long as Peyton Manning is still wearing the horseshoe.

No surprises there. That post-game conference where they asked Dungy if he was gonna step down, he didn't dispute it at all.

Gr8 news for Caldwell. To me this is how a club would handle an in-house sucessor not drag along some cherade of an interview process. This to me shows Williams will prolly not get the Skins gig, which I think is a good thing!!

No the difference is that the Colts are replacing one minority with another ie Rooney rule. Since Caldwell is a minority they do not need to interview anyone else.

As for Williams, he will be next head coach like it or not! These other interviews are just fluff. Also, Williams and Snyder are probably discussing Williams role in the player personnel decisions and what authority if any that he will have. Just a hunch!

Exactly. There is no need for compliance because a minority was hired.

First, I think your wrong. I think the job is clearly GWs. Second, I don't agree that it has been a cherade either. I think Snyder has interviewed a few candidates, has maybe two or three more, then will make a choice. I don't see the cherade in that. I think they have done a nice job keeping things quiet, including baseless rumors.

Yes for once I think that they are doing it correctly. The players seem to want GW give him a shot if he flops then bring someone else in.

I am personally glad that Snyder is not going after a Cowher, etc. Perhaps he has learned some patience from Gibbs. Only time will tell from for me so far so good !!

Can everyone PLEASE comment on PFT info with as much skpeticism as possible. They throw everything up and hope it sticks. It's precisely why ESPN only refers to stuff they report as "an internet rumor". They never source PFT and for good reason.

They're standing by their story. I'll guess we'll see if they're right. But the fact that Caldwell withdrew from all other places he was to interview says that they're probably right.

ESPN also said this (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3166931).

And Mortensen said that Vick wouldn't get indicted, and PFT was the only source saying otherwise.

They might end up being right. The point is they report anything and everything, truth be damned. They are not a reliable source. They are a rumor mill.

They're right far more than they're wrong. I think that their problem is the same of any mainstream reporter, they're only as good as their sources are and get hurt by the agendas of their sources. The point of their site is to point out things that the NFL media ignores/misses(which they have done in spades) and report what their sources say is going on.

Oh I don't think, if we added them all up, that they are right more than not. That said, their point is to put anything on their site to drive up traffic. I like what they do but they are not a source. Mainstream reporters are held to a much higher standard. PFT is not held to any. When they are wrong, they can shrug their shoulders.

And ESPN/CNNSI arent given that much rope? HOw many stories have Clayton, Pastabelli, King and Mort completely blown, yet they just shrug their shoulders and move on?

Well, it's Thursday. And he still hasn't said he's definitly going to be back next year.

Just saw on the bottomline of NFL network that Adam Schefter reports Dungy is going to return next season. Couldn't find a link yet as it was just reported.

Edit: "Expecting" to return. It'll be official in an hour or so.

So much for PFT.

YOu kick out a bunch of rumors and you're bound to be right every now and then. I don't listen to much of what they have to say. It's only rumor.

BTW, watching Dungy's PC now and I'm officialy switching to calling him Spock. look at those ears. LOL.

This has to be a farce. PFT can't possibly be wrong! Never!

I agree wholeheartedly...

The NFL is a better place with guys like Dungy in it. Assuming his family life allows it, I'd hope he stays head coach as long as possible.
