Fenty wants the Skins in a 100,000-seat dome stadium that could host the Super Bowl. Thoughts?

The plan would include leasing the RFK Stadium site at little cost to the team while both sides explore funding options for the possible stadium.

The mayor emphasized the city is at an early stage, however, and any proposal must make economic sense for the District.

The general idea is to allow the team to build a 100,000-seat domed stadium that also could be used for Super Bowls and other major events.

"If we could develop a proposal and put it before the Redskins, I think that would show some serious, and at least that starts the conversation formally," Fenty said.

Some big questions remain, however. It has not been determined what will happen to Fed Ex field if the Redskins move or how Prince George's County will respond.

I think they should wait until FEDEX is at least 15 YRS old before they try to put it to pasture.

This is old news. See the link for a previous thread. Probably should be merged. LINK (http://www.hailredskins.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=39341&highlight=skins+moving)

It would be nice to have us back in the District, but it seems way to soon to make a move from FedEx. Also, why wouldn't we just play in fedex until time to move? makes more sense than losing 25-30,000 seats for a couple years. Also, doesn't Danny technically own FedEx? I think he's still at least paying it off. If so, the team would lose a great deal of value to go from owning your stadium to renting it from the District.

I like the idea, but it doesn't seem to make too much sense outside of getting the skins back into DC.

This is old news.

Perhaps I titled the thread poorly, but I think the fact that Fenty is presenting a written proposal is new information.
That last thread was a lot of conjecture based on a Marc Fisher column.

I like football outside. Something about teams playing in a dome has always struck me as just kinda lame.

This area is an awesome environment for football. Unlike places like Green Bay and Chicago where you have a pretty good idea what you're going to be getting the last few weeks of the season and into the playoffs, the weather in these parts is completely unpredictable in December. I like it.

FedEx obviously isn't perfect, and I have no problems with the idea of a new stadum, but a dome is so. . . Dallas.

I agree completely. Fenty wants a dome because he wants Super Bowl revenue to come to the District. Not being an elected official or business owner, I want my NFC East team to play outside.

I have the same thoughts, but Danny Boy wants a Super Bowl and a dome is the only way he'll get it in this area.

we do everything after dallas does...that is what drives me up the wall about the franchise...they are always waiting until dallas does something....

1) they went ol school and got Parcells, we got Gibbs
2) Jerry Running the team Danny running the team
3) Jerry getting the SB, we want one
4) Jerry Hiring an ex QB to be the OC, we trying to hire Jim Zorn to be our OC
5) Jerry Building a Dome stadium, Danny thinking about building one

When are we gonna try to do things on our own as opposed to trying to mimmik them...

Exactly. These teams expect a new stadium every 10 years.

i think the things you listed are purely coincedence and that youre reading too much into things. Snyder has wanted a superbowl long before dallas built a new stadium or got one, remember Snyder explored the possibility of an inflatable dome roof for fedex. i dont think this is a case of copycat, but a case of overcritical...

as far as a domed stadium, if this ever does come to be, lets hope its retractable and always open on sundays, as i want a grass turf and games played in the elements. just close it for a possible SB and whatever odd events they may have there...

The day we build a dome is going to be a very sad day as a Redskins fan.
We have always been an out door on real grass team. I cant believe Snyder is so obsessed with getting a Super Bowl in his stadium that he would even think about that. Whats wrong with Fedex?

I still remember the time when New York wanted the Giants to go to a dome. And there owner said NO it wouldn't be the same. Why cant Snyder just leave stuff alone?

IMO - IF DC want to build this stadium for the Skins - go for it BUT THEY should be the ones who put up the money - not the Skins. DC blew it with JKCook. ....................... DC has far too many other issues then need to focus on.

Domes are for wimps. Football was created to play outdoors and on natural grass. Indoor football is not good for the NFC East.....

If a retractable roof with real grass were feesible, then I would be all for the idea of a Dome. However, I think it isn't cost-effective and thats why they use turf, (the latest turfs do feel like real grass...it's pretty amazing actually). Still I believe that football (and Baseball) should be played on real grass.

I'd love for the District to get a SB.

My feeling is that real Football, the players can get their jerseys dirty. It's just the real deal is on natural grass. And since we are the 6th oldest franchise we should stick to NFC East football, real football. Weather and grass, I could care less if a SB comes here, I want my team to remain real to the history of the game, instead of having little rubber balls stuck to the players after a play. And it's not the same as real grass, no matter how soft it is, it's not real.

This is a good idea for the city of Washington, get a stadium in there so the Superbowl can be held in DC.

we could always get a retractable dome

yea, but when would they use it. The point is to play in the rain, wind, elements. With a retractable dome, all they will do is cover it up when it gets nasty, and then open it when it is nice. I don't want that.

i wanna play outside, in the elements, how football is supposed to be played...

I don't want a super bowl in DC lol. I don't want 300,000 football hangers-on and their posses in DC clogging up the metro and bars lol.

LOL, this reminded me of the spurrier days when he suggested that ds build a "bubble" at Redskins park so, his guys could practice indoors when it was cold or rainy.

I don't think any coach in our history had as much comedic value for the relatively little time here than the 'ole ball coach.
