Smoak, come on man, you don't have enough crap to deal with you are gonna let this get to you? Snyderrato will find plenty for you. Trust me, as you have already hinted at, it is going to get worse before it gets better. This promises to be a very tumultuous offseason. If we let every single thing get to us, such as hiring an inexperienced position coach (e.c. who cares?), we'll all be completely burned out by August and the season.
I'm of the mindset that we should just step back, accept that these two clowns are gonna do what they want and just ... que sera sera. One thing that is positive about the continuity (read: complete upheaval) this offseason is the accountability it assigns to Vinny. He's calling shots, it's fun to call him puppet and lap dog, but he's the one "out in front" on these deals. If the *cbs* hits the fan, there is nowhere for him to hide.
Snyder as well, it can be argued how good/inept a job was done during this coach search, but one thing that cannot be argued is DS' want of Fassel. He wanted him 4 yrs ago and he's wanted him again for the last 4 weeks. Yeah he may have been willing to hire some others, Mora/Spags, but now that they are not options its back to his boy, The Fossil. The fans reaction (i bet firejimfassel.com triples its membership b/t monday and tuesday) as well as the media's will make it obvious to Snyderatto that they are alone out on the limb on this move. This isn't the popular hall of fame coach returning after all ...
I'm hoping for the best, for all I hate about Fassel, he's been to the Superbowl and he has a career winning pct, they really could do worse - I guess. However, if things don't go great in '08 and '09 ...

Continuing to add to a staff that still doesn't have a head coach, the Washington Redskins have reached an agreement in principle to hire veteran NFL assistant Larry Brooks as their defensive line coach.
Did this guy not get the job after all?
skinsfan36
02-09-2008, 11:13 AM
best part of the article
That fills out the defensive staff, which has been meeting with scouts and preparing for the draft in meetings this week led by new coordinator Greg Blache. The Redskins are expected to address defensive needs primarily in the draft, with defensive line a priority (needs at both DE and a 3-technique).

In 27 years at the collegiate level, Palermo has coached on 17 bowl teams, including Notre Dame's 1988 national championship squad and three Wisconsin teams that won the Big Ten and the Rose Bowl (1993, 1998 and 1999).
Palermo was the head coach at Austin Peay State in 1990. Prior to that, he was the defensive line coach at Notre Dame in 1988 and 1989. The Fighting Irish won the 1988 national championship, and his star lineman, Chris Zorich was a consensus All-American and Lombardi Award winner in 1990. Prior to that, he had stints at Minnesota (1984-87), Appalachian State (1983), Memphis State (1980-82), Austin Peay (1979) and North Carolina State (1977-78).

Blache coached at several college programs.
Notre Dame in 1968-75.
Tulane 1976-80.
Notre Dame 1981-83.
Southern University 1986
Kansas 1987.
Joe Jackson Gibbs Who you may or may not have heard of:

Yea he did coah Calais at the U. In '06 he had 84 tackles and 10.5 sacks.
But if we drafted him over say.... a defensive back I'm sure people on this board would be upset!

It's interesting to note that if you go to the Redskins website
(http://www.redskins.com/team/coachingstaff.jsp)and look at the list of coaches, Zorn is listed as HC and Blanche is DC, but Palermo is not listed. In fact no D line coach is listed at all.
Maybe Zorn has to approve the new hires from here on out. Hopefully.
Of course then again, Lazor is still listed as QB coach, so it may not mean anything.

I think it speaks volumes about the Redskin fan base that a position coach hiring gets this much scrutiny, and inspires this much vitriol.
The only thing I know about this guy is that Blache had to have signed off on it in order for this to happen. Blache insisted that he have autonomy over his staff and input in personnel decisions when he agreed to take the promotion to DC. If it's good enough for Blache, then I couldn't care less.
How this is further proof of Snyderrato's incompetence is beyond me. We're not talking about a guy that is expected to do anything but teach players how to play. There isn't a whole lot of difference in the DL position between college and the pros when it comes to technique.

What disturbs me is that there was at least one report that Larry Brooks was Greg Blache's right-hand man in Chicago, and he was a shoo-in for the job. Then the next thing we hear is that the Skins are considering this guy who goes way back with Vinny from Notre Dame, and then he gets hired. Makes you wonder if Blache is being permitted to hire his own DL coach, or does Vinny trump him. My only hesitation on this is that I think Blache is also a Notre Dame guy, so that might explain it.

i dont think it was that.. i just think that brooks, for whatever reason, was unimpressive in his interview..
zorn is not the issue here because he has delegated the defense to blache..

i just hope that blache places more emphasis on speed and athleticism for the DL

Agreed. Blache now has to live by the defense he builds. It will NOT be the same as GW; and he will coach different.
Personally I'm giving Zorn and Blache some slack.
We just had four years of the most over-qualified and expensive coaching staff in the history of the NFL. Yet we were still under .500 as a team. We were out-coached on a regular basis in games. Let's see how these guys do in the draft, pre-season and for a year before we start to crucify them for their choices.
