DARREN McFADDEN IS FAST

So much for Darren McFadden's draft stock falling.

Sure, there will be concerns about off-field issues and other such nonsense. But speed blurs not only the eye but also the mind. And given that McFadden ran the 40-yard dash in 4.27 seconds on Sunday at the Scouting Combine, he'll be holding a jersey not very long into the draft-day proceedings in April.

It's an extremely impressive time, and it will only result in more comparisons to guys like Adrian Peterson and other speed-burning backs of the present and the past.

Wow...

wonder how long it'll take him to get to the podium

(and to the bank to cash that big payday)?

I'll bet you he gets to the bank with his first check in 3.9 flat.

If Miami is serious about getting out of the one spot, I think it just got easier for them to do so.

the way i understand it, each player is given a total of 2 tries at the forty yards, they dont have to run twice but if they choose to do so then the second try is the number that is used, dm time with the first try was 4.27 the second run was 4.33 the below numbers are from the combine.
Name Time
Johnson, Chris 4.24
McFadden, Darren 4.33
Alridge, Anthony 4.36
Charles, Jamaal 4.38
Simpson, Chad 4.42
Mendenhall, Rashard 4.45
Forte, Matt 4.46
Jones, Felix 4.47
Parmele, Jalen 4.47
Stewart, Jonathan 4.48

Mayock's assessment would be enough for me to have a serious concerns about McFadden's ability. I don't follow college football, but could my guess is that we might be closer to a "Reggie BUsh" when people are expecting the next "Adrian Peterson".

maybe, but the only difference is this guy was an every down back, no lendale white with him. also, the entire offense surrounded him, hell he took the snaps from center some times.

I actually am on his bandwagon, i think he will be fantastic barring injury of course

He had Felix Jones with him in the backfield. Jones is better than LenDale White IMO.

Tho i do think DM will be the best back in this class by a mile. He dominated almost every game. And in the SEC that is saying something.

I am not sure what the off the field issues they are talking about tho. I may have to do some research, because watching on the combine that was the first i had heard about off the field issues.

I know they checked him about his car but he was cleared of that. so IDK.

EDIT: So he was in a fight outside a bar where he ended up dislocating his toe. No charges were filed. Still looking to see if anything else.

Ok the other stuff i found was that he is currently in a paternity suit, and he has told some teams during the interview process that he has 2 more children on the way.

I don't think it's a serious thing. But it may be looked at as a fool you once, shame on them; fool you twice, shame on you type of thing.

Mayock is the only one that i see saying that. It strikes me as odd that he's the only one that sees him as a questionable prospect. Obviously no one is a can't miss, but at this point McFadden is undeniably the best offensive player in this draft.

All fair point and that is why I said "closer" to Bush than Peterson. I also firmly believe that to an extent, Peterson was a function of his O-line.

Does Mayock have an agenda? People like me who don't follow college need unbiased input to make somewhat informed opinions. Any recommendation on a site to use?

not that i'm aware of...i really don't get why he sees McFadden negatively. i use nfldraftcountdown.com a lot. he seems to have pretty good info and he attends Sr. Bowl and the Combine evey year...does interviews with prospects also.

Yeah, that is my favorite site.

Mayock wasn't negative as much as he was speaking with caution. He had Mendenhall as a better overall prospect (including blitz pickup which can translate to playing time for a rookie) and mentioned McFadden tendency to put the ball on the carpet (that is what really scared me).

the difference between Reggie Bush and Mcfadden is DM is bigger, his frame and weight. Plus he runs in between the tackles and everywhere else while Bush needs open space to make plays, and in college open space is always available....specially with mediocre players on some of these OK college teams.
