I wonder if this was why we have been so quiet in FA

Now let's see if we can add a couple of free agents. The prices are dropping....tick, tick. Hail!!

with the fact we are restructuring so many contracts I wish we hadn't designated Blowyd a post June 1 cut and taken the whole hit this yr and been done with it. $8m is not a ton when u have 3 first day picks but if that turns into $10+ I will start to get nervous about some bak-busting trade we're cooking up

if they continue with this quiet free spending, why restructure guys anyway. isn't 3.5 enough for your rookies?
With this extra space i expect a 5 year deal for who ever we sign...

makes little sense to do this now unless we have someone or a couple of FA's in mind
something should happen soon, i think

Infact, we'll have an additional 2.4 million for the rookies, post June 1st.

Wait for it. The prices will drop and all the mad money will be sent to over-priced players by other teams.
We'll get a few good FA, but you're going to have a wait for the bargains. Something later this week is my guess.

I suspect we are going after Chad Johnson.

We are 8 million under right now, enough to sign 2 quality FA. Also we will get another 2.5 million June 1 from the Lloyd release, which will be enough to do our rookies.
I think we make a play for Hackett when he comes to town...Possibly a safety and a LBer out there too.

This is the NE scenario, but with Moss, Bruschi and a high 1swt they probably won't be players this year.

I hear Warrick Holdman is available.........j/k! How about Roosevelt Colvin or even bring back Lamar Marshall? Both could be solid contributors and provide good depth behind Rocky.

I suspect we are going after Chad Johnson.I agree.I think everything has quieted down about CJ and they are going to give our #1 and another pick(maybe next year)since the positions we will be looking for aren't star studded at 21.

Agree, but not unlike Retail, the bargains are going to be drastically "picked over". It'll be weird styles and sizes out there...
But that said, I like the strategy. I am SICK of rewarding players who have never even put on a Redskins jersey.

i cant recall what his injury was exactly, but he did tear something up. which is exactly why the redskins said they got rid of him. that they thought he was breaking down and prone to injury.

He didn't take any hit. The difference for him was getting a check now, in March, or getting one in September. The only reason he wouldn't do it is if he wanted to be stubborn for the mere sake of it.

or make it more likely that he would be traded or somehow gotten rid of...

I'm sure Clinton didn't take a hit in the pocket for this restructure. It was probably more of the usual (the salary upfront to be spread out throughout the contract length) but also an extension in years to make the numbers work.
What I'm worried about is what do we need all of this cap space for if not for Hackett AND Johnson (maybe Colvin, Utecht/Troupe and Demps as backups)? But to me, these guys should come at fair deals (no more than 2M in cap space each). If we signed ALL of them, I can see the need for that much space but I don't think we're getting them all.... so what do we need the space for?

We may make a big move here in a bit.

Having the cash in hand can't hurt anything and aside from this round of FA's there'll be plenty of cuts where talent might be made available and having this extra scratch might be useful.

If they do that I would rather them go after Larry fitzgerald. He is a stud and only 24

They would have to redo the deal first. Then possibly extend. It is his rookie contract so it is possible. Plus the Eagles are looking at him. And if that cheap team can do it....

Fitz's contract is impossible, he's due $31 mil in guaranteed cash over the next two years. There's no way we can make a move for him. If the Eagles want to deal with what he'll command in a restructure, more power to them.

fitz is due 31 million over the next two years, and thats primarily in base salary. the cardinals options are to trade him(what team would want that contract?), extend him for a contract with more than 31 million in gaurantees(more because hes essentially due to make that much without a new deal), or cut him(not gonna happen).

i dont think its gauranteed, its 31 million he will cost against the cap the next two years tho. next season would be the season for the cards to trade him or extend him, where you can give him a contract thats fair to him and the team.

I bet we wouldn't have all these restructures if not for Sean. These guys are still going to be playing for him for a long time, maybe for the rest of their careers.
I get the feeling there's an "unfinished business" mindset around the FO and locker room. I want to see it.

Why not? Its not as if they are losing money. They just convert salary to bonuses of something (i don't know exactly how it works) to lower the cap hit and the player still ends up making the same money.
We and many other teams do it every year.
