So, it's 3:30 AM this morning and I go to the diner for breakfast, and this guy comes and sits down next to me. I glance over, but quickly turn my attention back to my paper. While I'm reading, I hear these guys discussing the 49ers with the guy next to me, and again, I don't really think much of it other than Im sitting next to a delusional niners fan who thinks their going to be decent next year.
So finally, it hits me like a thunderbolt and I jerk my head up...sure enough, its Vernon Davis. He asks me if I go to Maryland (I'm wearing a UM hat and hoody) and I say yes and that I enjoyed watching him play (nevermind that I went to VCU at the time). Turns out he's a really nice guy, we talk for a few minutes as we eat our breakfast at the counter and then I head out. I'm not into autographs or anything, I just wish him luck and tell him to stay healthy next year.
Anyway, I know we have some Maryland fans here, so I just thought I'd share the story. There was an Escalade in the parking lot which I'm sure was his, black with nice rims. He seemed like a really good dude, pleasant and engaging and just a genuinely nice guy. Like I said, its 3:30 AM, and the guy was by himself and just getting a bite to eat, staying out of trouble. Seemed like the Anti-Pacman, lol.

3:30am? Jeebus. Think he was getting a head start on his training or does he need to go out at that time to avoid the attention?
Or was this a "Perkins" breakfast?
Anyone need clarification on that, just let me know.

Duke does seem to be a very nice guy. I hope he does well in the NFL and represent UMD with pride!

I only wish he went to a team with a half decent QB.
Hes great to watch but he can't do much with no one to throw him the ball.

I'm sure he is a great guy and I hope he has a great, healthy life, but I don't want him on a team with a great or even a good QB because that's just one more team to go through in the NFC.

I have no idea why he was out so late/early, but he clearly wasn't drunk or anything. He eats a lot, I can tell you that much, lol.
And I'll bite- what's a Perkins breakfast?

LOL, no problem! Perkins is a 24 hour restaurant that has all menu items available at all times of the day. So you can get a biscuits and gravy at 11pm or a nice steak at 7am. It is very appealing place on the college circuit after the bars close down and the munchies hit you. The easy part is getting there, the hard part is deciding what to order at 3am? Breakfast or supper.

He's six-foot-three, 253 lbs. I wonder how many calories he needs each day.

That's just incredible. I know that athletes have a special cafeteria in most colleges. The nutritionist must have to multi-task.
Vernon Davis goes on my good guy list, and I'll root for him whenever I chance upon his games.

A good meal plan calls for eating six meals a day to maintain a healthy weight. Football player are often carrying extra 'playing' weight for obvious reasons, so they are constantly eating and in much larger portions as their metabolism is so much higher than an average adult.

Well, Davis is a workout warrior...I know people who et p about 3/4 so they can work out at around 5/6 then work out again in the afternoon. I wouldnt be suprised if that big meal was to get ready for lifting.
Either way, cool story.

So what type of breakfast was he eating? You can tell a lot about a person by the breakfast they order. :)

Agreed. You can tell which end of the candle he was burning. Eggs & oatmeal - He just getting up to lift ----- French toast, fried potatoes, bacon & sausage...... he's "tuned in" and about to wrap things up and go to bed! lol
